Grand Daddy Purple - Hydro

Looking great!

Nice start, and I'm really anxious to see you get the colloidal silver in action. That's something I wouldn't mind trying eventually, and I'm excited to see you journal your experience if/when you do it. I think Granny420 has done that recently - she's a member on the site here.

Congrats on doing a really nice job of nursing that now good looking mom back to health. Good luck with the clones! :goodluck:

Oh, I posted a few more thoughts on RO system in my thread. I totally understand if it's not something you want to do yet, but plumbing shouldn't be an issue I don't think.

GDPxSD sounds good - I'd call it something like... "Sour Grapes" ;)

Plumbing isn't an issue for me, I'm good with my hands. Like I said in your journal, it's not a problem of want, it's a problem of management not allowing it, and evicting me if they see it. "...no additions, changes, or repairs to the plumbing, wiring, walls, windows and/or doors are to be made by the occupant or those contracted by the occupant at any time, for any reason. Failure to adhere to this will result in the termination of this lease and eviction from the property."

If you read my posts over at the cloned GDP, she's already been there! hehe. Yeah, I'll back pollinate first to get a good stock. then I'll cross to the SD.

Hehehe, it was this very plant I was telling you was dying at 5.5 to 6.1 At the urging of others I lowered to 5.2 to 5.6 and she came to look like this. heheheheheh. yeah, THAT debate.

But it's been done, so I don't get to name it uless I back pollenate back to the GDP, then, yes, I was thinking "Sour Grapes", or "Grapes of Wrath" (GDPxSD)xGDP=Sour Grapes.... Grapes of Wrath...
-OR- (DGPxSD)xSD=Sourpuss Namesake of the SD. But, unless that SD performs better, it's straight to the flower room for it... unless it turns out to be male, then it's the trashcan.

No no, I just mean - when you read the post in my journal there is no plumbing necessary for an RO system (at least one like mine). Just threads onto a faucet like a garden hose, and the whole thing can be connected/disconnected in about 30 seconds with no tools, no plumbing necessary. It weighs less than 10lbs, and is small enough to fit under most sinks when not in use. See my journal for a bit more specifics, and let me know if you have questions.

The only thing is - you need to have a faucet that something can be threaded onto. I use the utility sink in my laundry room, but I have a kitchen sink that would work too. :)

Bottom line: If you have a sink that a garden hose can be connected to, you can do RO. Small, light, portable and easy to connect. Definitely get a float valve if you get one, and let me know if you have questions on any of it - I'd be glad to help or provide more info.

Small, light, portable, and how long to purify 1 Gal? Most RO systems for consumers are between 20Gal and 50Gal/DAY. At 20Gal/day, that's just over an hour for one single gallon. At 50, that's almost Half an hour for a Gallon. I'd want something that can deliver 2-3Gal whenever I need it. ALSO, the Flower Box is nearing completion, and I'll need 5 Gallons per side of this dual-chamber box. I'm not willing to wait that long for a portable RO system to fill my flower box. Don't get me wrong, portables are good to have for that glass of water, or to add 1/2Gal to 1Gal to top off a tank. But for something like the Ebb&Flow I'm making for this box, I'd need something with a tank on it to deliver that amount of water.

Hmm.... looking online and for a Premium one it'll do 75 to 90/day...

But, it screws into the kitchen sink, just remove the aerator.

2 words. "POWDER MOLD!"

Upon inspection of my little lady this morning I found 2 fans with powder mold. I immediately removed them and trashed them. I would have taken pictures, but I was too pissed that it had finally happened to me. needless to say, I went by my hydro shop, picked up some SNS-244™ Natural Fungicide for Powder Mold (32 ounce spray bottle with unique any direction sprayer)

I had to wait for the lights to go off tonight (as per the instructions) to spray her down but application is pretty easy with this bottle, it sprayed UPSIDE DOWN for about 7-8 pumps! I also hit the babies with it just as a preventative. We'll see how it goes if and we have a recurrence. Gonna hit them for the next 2 nights and keep checking them several times a day.

I hang my head in shame at having let my little lady get mold. I knew it was bound to happen sometime, I'm just glad I was prepared to act, and wasn't flat broke when I noticed it. I had noticed a dead leaf on the backside of the plant last night, and pulled it off without inspecting it. Plants do that from time to time as we all know, so I thought nothing of it. Then it began to eat at me that something more was wrong. So I woke up at 5am when the lights came on and gave her a thorough inspection. Sure enough, there were 2 more dead fan leaves buried under the canopy, and alarm bells rang. I got out my spot and magnifier and the powder almost jumped out and slapped me in the face, laughing and mocking me because I had to go to work and could not act right then. On my way home, though, I stopped by local 'ponics shop, "The GreenHouse Garden Supply" and "The Hydro Guy" as I call him showed me several brands, most of them some sort of plant oil derivative, I was looking them over when he asked me if I had ever tried SNS products. My mouth dropped and 420Mag "SPONSOR" filled my mind. He said he'd used it before and told me that it was a good all around knock out for Powder Mold AND Powdery Mildew and that the thyme aroma can also prevent/drive off some flying insects. As I didn't have a specimen with me he was took a broad approach at giving advice. I looked at him in horror, as visions of swarms of white flies, thrips, gnats, and spider mites, invaded my worried brain... Now I know that this isn't made for such, and I don't expect it to prevent them, but wouldn't it be cool if it did? I also made up some garlic spray for those as soon as I got home as a preventative... :thumb:

When a plant gets sick it is prone to many other things than just the first symptoms of illness. Often times secondary complications or infestations happen because the plant is in a weakened state. So when I see one symptom of disease or infection, I run the gambit of preventatives as well so as not to pay the price later. Granted this sometimes can be overkill, but I'd rather be safe (relatively) than lose this plant now! She's been through hell, I've nursed her back from the brink of death from pH fluctuations........... You know. I guess I should have expected this. pH had caused malnutrition and weakened her. I thought that we had gotten past that but I guess she just...... I give her one more chance before I remove her from prospective breeding. If this plant is having that much trouble, I might as well flower her out, and celebrate her life during the time I had her with me.

<Ahem> Sorry for the tangent. My mind is a bit weird tonight.

Anywho. The Hydro Guy also said that 244 is a good preventative used every 14 days or so and that it acts systemically, as well. Being distraught and wanting to give my little girl the best chance possible, and due to the fact that he started putting all the other products away and pushed this one forward in three sizes, I decided to try it.

Just in case you're wondering, if you DO NOT like the smell of the herb thyme, this is not the product for you. It filled my whole room with the smell. Fortunately for me, I like the smell of thyme, and don't mind my livingroom smelling as such especially when mixed with garlic spray. It reminds me of happy times when my apartment was filled with all kinds of herbs, flowers, and other plants and back in the "Art Room" was another herb thriving blissfully.

Also, if this gets on your skin, wash it immediately, as later it starts to tingle and itch if you don't. I ignored getting it on my hands as I was spraying the tops and undersides of leaves, manipulating as best I could to get complete coverage.

So yeah, we shall see how well Sierra Natural Science: 244 works and it will be reported here.

I got a ro system from amazon 100 gpd with a storage tank love it and its well worth the $ Also get ur self a float valve and storage resv as the tank only holds 4 gal. I have two 20 gal resvs to fill so i cant waste time waiting on water so i have a 30 gal storage tote that i fill then transfer to the resv. they also sell the merlin ro system but twice the cost for a free flow ro system.

Hey there Jandre -

Real bummer about the PM. SNS makes great products - I have their whole line from a MOTM prize package, but hope to never need it! (Sure nice having it around, though).

Did you decide to get the RO system similar to mine? Or did you decide to go with something else/ hold off? I have no experience with different models or brands, but I'm completely happy with mine (100 gpd model). Hydrologic -Stealth 100 is the model I have. I'm sure there are some other good ones out there, too.

:goodluck: with the PM battle.

that would be hold off... I haven't the liquid assets at the moment after just taking care of rent. but believe it is on the list of to-dos.

Thanks... I'm gonna need it. However, after one application.... that's right ONE it seems that it's gone. I'm still going to spray tonight and tomorrow night to get remaining spores and places I might have missed. lost another fan again today, buried under the dense outer foliage. I must say, that I'm impressed with SNS. If all of their products work like this, I'm glad they're around. We have feds attacking us from one side, it's nice to know that we have SNS standing behind us making sure that what have is healthy and vibrant.

Nice grow so far! We just harvested some Ken's GDP yesterday, love the strain. Thank goodness for SNS.
Perhaps try increasing air-flow in the room to prevent it from happening again.
:Namaste:

Heh! Believe me that plant knows airflow. There is a 6" mini wind machine (on low) blowing from 2' above, and a 4" blowing at leaf level about 2' away. Good suggestion though, thanks for that. I just hadn't mentioned it in the journal, I guess, because air circulation is such a given, I never thought to put in in here.

Looks like a nice space you got there bro GDP is looking very nice indeed!

Thanks for the props!

I decided that with my small space I'd go Hydro. The entire setup is a DIY Compact System that sits on an end table in my living room. I started with 4 gifted, 2 Sour Diesel and 2 unknown seeds, lost one, and when I got the hydro almost dialed in, I added this lady.

She was in a grow cube shoved in soil when I brought her home from the collective, and let her get settled to the new lights and nutes I was feeding her then removed the soil, liberating the roots, in a SUPERThrive B12 bath. I had some problems after that with pH and had to get that dialed back in. Luckily I chose a resilient strain, and MommaGPD in particular is a VERY strong little girl, as she lived through a medium change with no problem, and then the pH problems from which she recovered from the resulting malnutrition in about 2 weeks. That is also the reason that she now sits at 5.2~5.6 pH. I DO let it creep up to 5.8 every now and then when the stems show some purple, just to let her get some Ca and Mg, then I drop her back down before she starts to decline again, but she usually hovers around 5.4.

See you have alot of journals going I have a go at getting around them, looks like you know what you are doing here what experience have you got bro long time grower?

Long time *ago* grower, actually. About 15-16 years ago ended an almost 9-year perpetual grow stretch. I just got back in a little over 2 months ago.

Welcome back to the world of growing not sure how much has changed I have only been growing 2-3 years picking it peice by peice this forum has been the rise were I have failed.

There are some fantastic growers here with priceless experience and knowledge willing to help those who are willing to learn thank you for adding to that list.

Good luck I'll be following.
