"POWDER MOLD!"
Upon inspection of my little lady this morning I found 2 fans with powder mold. I immediately removed them and trashed them. I would have taken pictures, but I was too pissed that it had finally happened to me. needless to say, I went by my hydro shop, picked up some
SNS-244™ Natural Fungicide for Powder Mold (32 ounce spray bottle with unique any direction sprayer)
I had to wait for the lights to go off tonight (as per the instructions) to spray her down but application is pretty easy with this bottle, it sprayed UPSIDE DOWN for about 7-8 pumps! I also hit the babies with it just as a preventative. We'll see how it goes if and we have a recurrence. Gonna hit them for the next 2 nights and keep checking them several times a day.
I hang my head in shame at having let my little lady get mold. I knew it was bound to happen sometime, I'm just glad I was prepared to act, and wasn't flat broke when I noticed it. I had noticed a dead leaf on the backside of the plant last night, and pulled it off without inspecting it. Plants do that from time to time as we all know, so I thought nothing of it. Then it began to eat at me that something more was wrong. So I woke up at 5am when the lights came on and gave her a thorough inspection. Sure enough, there were 2 more dead fan leaves buried under the canopy, and alarm bells rang. I got out my spot and magnifier and the powder almost jumped out and slapped me in the face, laughing and mocking me because I had to go to work and could not act right then. On my way home, though, I stopped by local 'ponics shop, "
The GreenHouse Garden Supply" and "The Hydro Guy" as I call him showed me several brands, most of them some sort of plant oil derivative, I was looking them over when he asked me if I had ever tried SNS products. My mouth dropped and 420Mag "SPONSOR" filled my mind. He said he'd used it before and told me that it was a good all around knock out for Powder Mold AND Powdery Mildew and that the thyme aroma can also prevent/drive off some flying insects. As I didn't have a specimen with me he was took a broad approach at giving advice. I looked at him in horror, as visions of swarms of white flies, thrips, gnats, and spider mites, invaded my worried brain... Now I know that this isn't made for such, and I don't expect it to prevent them, but wouldn't it be cool if it did? I also made up some garlic spray for those as soon as I got home as a preventative...
When a plant gets sick it is prone to many other things than just the first symptoms of illness. Often times secondary complications or infestations happen because the plant is in a weakened state. So when I see one symptom of disease or infection, I run the gambit of preventatives as well so as not to pay the price later. Granted this sometimes can be overkill, but I'd rather be safe (relatively) than lose this plant now! She's been through hell, I've nursed her back from the brink of death from pH fluctuations........... You know. I guess I should have expected this. pH had caused malnutrition and weakened her. I thought that we had gotten past that but I guess she just...... I give her one more chance before I remove her from prospective breeding. If this plant is having that much trouble, I might as well flower her out, and celebrate her life during the time I had her with me.
<Ahem> Sorry for the tangent. My mind is a bit weird tonight.
Anywho. The Hydro Guy also said that 244 is a good preventative used every 14 days or so and that it acts systemically, as well. Being distraught and wanting to give my little girl the best chance possible, and due to the fact that he started putting all the other products away and pushed this one forward in three sizes, I decided to try it.
Just in case you're wondering, if you DO NOT like the smell of the herb thyme, this is not the product for you. It filled my whole room with the smell. Fortunately for me, I like the smell of thyme, and don't mind my livingroom smelling as such especially when mixed with garlic spray. It reminds me of happy times when my apartment was filled with all kinds of herbs, flowers, and other plants and back in the "Art Room" was another herb thriving blissfully.
Also, if this gets on your skin, wash it immediately, as later it starts to tingle and itch if you don't. I ignored getting it on my hands as I was spraying the tops and undersides of leaves, manipulating as best I could to get complete coverage.
So yeah, we shall see how well Sierra Natural Science: 244 works and it will be reported here.
