Gardening in 2015 with b

they're on the ground. here's a photo that won't play tricks on your mind lol ;)

I'm still waiting on a bunch of seeds to break ground. the ones that have broken ground are growing well.

how many pea plants should I put in each 12" pot? I was thinking 2 or 3?

Peas like company. When you plant in a row, it's every 2" or so. You should be able to fit a few more in your 12"-pots. Remember the trellis has to start very low, only 1-2" above the ground. Once they catch, they'll be fine climbing, but it's that first step that's the hardest. Hope this helps.

Almost forgot! If you're going to can any peas, blanch them first and then dunk briefly in ice water. Makes for prettier and more nutritious peas.

maybe I'll do 2 pots with 3 pea plants each and 1 pot with 2 pea plants and see how they do since I'm expecting 8. would round tomato cages work cause that's what I have already?

ok thanks for the information. it drops to about 45-50 degrees at night here now. think the squash and pea plants will be ok if I transplant them outside? I don't know why, but a bunch of seeds didn't sprout.

the deed is done. you say peas can handle the weather, yet they're so fragile when handling. they were hard to transplant. the squash were easier to transplant. if it gets too cold at night I'll bring the squash inside. remind me again, if a seed is green does that mean it's immature or very mature?

Awesome! Peas are like Canadian chix, they might look fragile, but they can handle the cold. Squash look like bruisers, but will brown up on you at the slightest hint of cold. Be careful.

Seed color vis-a-vis maturity depends on type. Peas are always green/grey. In most cases, green means immature.
Stay cool, Brother.

I planted new seeds in the cells that don't have sprouts. the pea and squash plants are doing ok. it was a bit too early to put them outside, but I think they'll pull through.

thanks mono. here's my garden today. I have some weird bugs on my pea plant's leaves so I'm spraying them and putting every spider I find on them lol. how do I know when peas are ripe?

Nice plants all around B and I think for the snow peas like yours look like are ready to pick.
My kids started some garden seeds and flower ones too in seed starter mix and tray Then I gave them my closet mix to transplant them into solos until we could plant. Before planting we had preschool teacher visit and she ended up taking some tomatoes and red bell pepper plants I said were extra for us,they ended up in school play yard raised bed. Anyways we planted some of ours in pots outside and a weed seed had sprouted from one I seen. not intended and I hope was the only one

Howdy b.real,
Peas are looking good, Brother. As you know, peas are a self-fertile, insect-pollinated annual, so your timing has to be good. Start harvesting as soon as the peas get to a good size, you should see lumps where peas are. If you're canning or freezing, do the whole 9 yards as fast as possible. Like corn, the sugars change quickly; still good food, but tastes like wood. If you let a few slip by, mark them w/ribbon and save the seed for next year. Super ez: dry, put in envelope, leave alone.
Love and respect

I'm glad my favorite people are here because I've got a new grow starting up. technically these were planted December 2015 so this grow will stay in the 2015 grow journal.

the 3 plants need to be transplanted but I've been feeling down lately and dragging my feet. I've got 2 pepper plants, 2 tomato plants, and 2 strawberry plants. I still need to get a light.

I really should transplant these things cause they want to grow. I was letting the strawberry plants catch up before I transplanted them all. I ordered a real light for them which should ship soon :high-five:

I kinda wish I kept my 60x5w led fixture since I have height in this closet but oh well. I've bought enough led lights lol.

edit: oh wow the light isn't in these pictures. It's a 60w cfl fixture I put together. I'll get it in next photo shoot before I swap it out. for those of you that have been around you know my cfl rig
