I attempted to top the two big pants yesterday, Day 15. I say attempted because the Jack47 is so dense it may have gotten FIM'ed. I'm planning on doing some LST with the bonsai wire to keep the height down and also to let the under growth come up.

The Jack47(middle bucket) is a weird looking plant. It's supposed to be a Sativa dominant strain but it could fool me with it's giant fat bushy leaves.

I am currently running the plants on 20/4 with the 200w only set to 60% Veg about 18" away from the girls. Also I think it's time to fully fill the SIP's.

I know the tents a mess but I have a shop vac ready to clean as soon as my bubble cloning attempt failure is removed haha.

Today was feeding day. I'm using these autos as a little experiment to try out some of the recommended additives from Gaia Green.

Today's feeding schedule today went like this:
1 1/4 Cup Worm Castings
2 Tbsp General Purpose 4-4-4
2 Tbsp Bloom 2-8-4
1 Tbsp Glacial Rock Dust
1/2 Tbsp of Mineralized Phosphate

The small CBD is there but not really growing. I just gave it 3Tbsp of Worm Castings to hopefully help it along. It may be a lost cause but I'm giving it it's best shot.

This is slightly less than the recommended amounts but I don't want to over do it, especially with these additional Nutes I haven't used before.

The bigger plants look great and I'm trying to do some LST and Super Cropping on them so the don't grow out of the tent when they start flowering.

It's been chaos around here. The furnace busted this weekend and while it's legal here I really don't need prying eyes around the grow tents so they have been relocated. It's away from the water source but it's in a storage room behind a door which I like better. I'll post some pictures once I get everything back together.

Ahh ya know how it goes, only six months into it being legal to grow here still a lot of people that would raise an eyebrow (or enforcement) to it. My basement has flooded and now this furnace deal, of course the perfect room for the tents is where those both happened. I figure if I've had to move the tents twice now might as well make it permanent.

Hey Bill hope all's well. I finally got the tents cobbled back together and it should suffice for now. I actually have 2 smoke detectors within 10 feet of that room from my saltwater aquarium days but I moved the extinguisher to a spot that will be easily accessible if anything were to happen.

The move must have kicked things into gear for the Autoflower (except the CBD but I'll update that a little later) because the big girls are seeing pistils forming. They are dropping a hair and I believe it's from light stress because I turned it up to 80%. I lifted the lights about 4" and that should help out. Could also be that the house was 60° for the last 2 days.

The CBD seedling has been removed from the SIP (and this journal ), replanted in a 1/2 gallon pot and relocated to the mother tent. The seedling was only 1/2" tall without any roots after 4ish weeks so I'm going to give it a chance but I have new plans for the SIP it was in.

Work has sprung another short trip on me so SIP'S can do their thing and the plants will be on cruise till I get back. I added 2 plants to the tent in place of the removed CBD, and they will be vegging until the Autos finish flowering.

I had trouble crawling around in the dark thick smoke trying to find it.

The Jack47 auto has quite a few polypoid branches which is neat to see. It also has stubby short hairs which is the first time I've seen that. There appears to be a couple spots forming on the lower growth, probably cal/mag.

The White Widow 1:1 has slowed the stretch and is begining to form buds.

Thank you for the kind words. The nutes are Gaia Green slow release organic. They should green up here shortly. The worm castings give a really nice quick boost to them every time I water them in.

I haven't seen my girls in 3 days so to being in another state for work and I get home after a long delayed flight to find my controller not connected to the Internet. I think what happened is we had some serious storms the day I left and the power went out and the Internet was out for at least a day. I think this kicked the lights on at 100% with no dark period and we have some serious light burn. Thankfully the buds didn't receive much damage but the fan leaves did. The Jack47 took the most because it's centered directly in the middle of the 200w light.

These are my mother's that will get Scrog'ed and flowered next. They loved the extra light lol.

It's been over a week since I've updated or even been on the site, works been taking all my time but I snapped a quick couple of photos for an update. The girls got their full bloom feeding and everything was top watered in.

The light burn hasn't progressed and the Cal Mag brown spots on the Jack47 haven't gotten worse or bigger. The buds are stacking nicely, full of trichomes and have a earthy sweet smell.

The growth on the White widow is just awesome, the colas are spear points between 5 and 6 inches long and are starting to fill in nice. The buds are going to be awesome when the final swell happens.

Today was plain water day. I've been only top watering these girls to try and force the nutes lower into the root system. These smaller 3.5G buckets with the premade GroBucket inserts made for 5G buckets make the soil too wet and the plants never took to the SIPs.

The Jack47 is starting to head down the homestretch. I figure maybe 2ish weeks until the harvest window starts. The pistils are turning orange and shrinking and the trichs are about 30% clear and 70% cloudy. The smell has become very noticeable and smells like sweet rotting fruit , best way I can describe it. The buds are very frosty and look great (except the burnt fan leaves).

The white widow appears to be a couple weeks behind. Bud structure is great and it's begun filling in and the trich's are standing straight out. All of the main colas are 5 to 6 inches and the whole plant is very uniform. There's not a strong smell coming off of it but it could be the Jack47 is over powering it.

I found similar with my 2 gal buckets and my diy version of the insert so I'm going to trial the other SIP design of the central column soil footer instead. I'm using a 3" net cup as the column which goes through a false floor made from a bucket lid.

Same idea as the bucket-in-bucket design shown in the video on page 2 of the SIP thread.

I think the smaller surface area of soil exposed to the reservoir should give me better control of the over wet mass of soil.

My plants took to the SIP great and were big and robust, but had very low brix readings in my organic soil suggesting that, while they looked great up until about 3 weeks after flip, they weren't really all that healthy.

Haven't used the new design (for me) yet, but up potting this weekend. It was the style I started with but had a much bigger footer (16oz vs the now 4oz) so can't tell you how it'll work quite yet.

I have been running into plant issues at week 3-4 of flower as well. I've been chalking it up to holes in my nutes and supplementing cal/mag and extra feedings to try to make up for it. Top watering has righted the ship on these autos.

My next girl's that Ive been vegging now in the 5 gallon SIP buckets, one with the GroBucket insert and one homemade one with a smaller wicking foot made out of a quart size pot packed with soil. It'll be interesting to see which one works better.

I was listening to a podcast and a guy was using those auto water wicking bases from AC Infinity and dry organic amendments. He said he ran into problems with the top layer of media drying out. His thoughts were that when the top layer dries out, where the dry nutes are mixed inti the soil after the initial feeding, the large grouping of feeder roots are concentrated there too and they are constantly drying out. I find the top 1" layer of my SIP dries out decently fast but there's still water in the reservoir.

Could this cause the plant issues I'm seeing? I know people have been covering to tops of the soil SIPs and seeing those feeder roots come right to the very top of the soil. I guess maybe an experiment with covered and uncovered SIPs is in order for my future.

This has been my observation with sub-irrigation methods. It seems fine for plants that are feeding on salts because the roots convert to water roots and drink from the res. Organics however, seem to suffer in this way. You should follow Gee's thread if you don't already, the G-spot one. He describes the symbiosis of the soil, roots and the micro herd in such a way as to make it simple and understandable and all these things start become clear. So far, people who have been journaling in the SWICK thread have found that top watering is essential, often accompanied by a dose of calmag. The podcast seems consistent with our findings.

I have noticed that people who mulch or otherwise cover the top of the soil are getting good results with the roots.
