Day 105 of flower

Well that’s all she wrote folks! She’ll darken up a bit as she hangs there…I’ve had enough.

I think she could sit here for 20 weeks and she wouldn’t look any different.

Have a good weekend! :blunt:

Massive in any direction! 🙃

Congrats on the final harvest Fudo. :welldone:
Thanks Shed! Been busy and just getting around to jarring the last of it. It’s all stuffed in the tent hanging at 65%, the lazy way. I haven’t bothered to weigh any of it. The C.C came in at about 2.25 gallon jars, whatever that is lol.

Hello friends. I took a break to get some things done and do a little deer hunting. Didn’t do a lot of either, and now I got the itch to grow something. Like I mentioned before, I’m taking the winter off but that doesn’t mean I can’t grow a tomato.

To scratch the itch and do a little test run on my new SIP containers, I’ll grow a tomato and see how I manage. I plan on getting a ph soil meter and will probably invest in an RO system. I’m tired of sub par results on the Sativas. I know my problems begin with soil ph. Actually that’s probably the whole problem considering the hybrids turn out perfect, but I’ll start using RO water anyway. I don’t want to leave any excuses. Anyway, here’s what I could come up with.

I started with 12 gallon totes and 4” perforated drain pipe. I wrapped the pipe in landscape fabric to keep it from clogging up. The spaces between and at the ends of the pipe (arrows) will act as wicking feet.

I then packed it in with perlite (wick)

Then topped it off with my super soil. Easy peasy. Now I just need to order seeds. No stores I can think of around here have any left.

Congrats on the build and the winter testing! Are the pipe ends just covered with landscape fabric? If so that's a lot more water transfer than most folks use in their SIPs and might make for very boggy soil down there.
Yeah you’re reading my mind Shed. I thought using pure perlite might help. My air gap is closer to 3/4” below the top of the drain tile too. I thought of maybe laying screen and landscaping paper along the top of the tile and just leaving the ends open (top arrow) as feet and cutting off the center. I saw some pics online of one that didn’t even have the tile wrapped and the roots completely surrounded it. Roots looked good. I’m thinking of a drain plug at the bottom too to dry it out if needed. Idk, we’ll give it a whirl and see what happens.

Hey it might be fine! I'm just used to seeing builds with just small holes between the res and the soil.

You can always get some feedback over in the SIP thread from folks who grow that way in the regular.

I think you’re right Shed. I shoved the tile together and layered fabric over it and up the sides to keep the perlite in place. The feet are now only on the ends. Yeah I like this better.

So less soil exposed to the water? Seems like that might be an improvement! I guess a good test would be to start with dry soil, fill the res, wait a day, and stick a barbecue skewer down to see how the dampness spreads.
Yeah that’s the idea… I might try that, that’s why I want a plug so I can drain it, there won’t be any roots in there for awhile to help.

A couple of days ago I sowed 5 Brandywine seeds in a row right down the middle.

And finally got around to cleaning up the big girl PH/M plant. She’s been curing in the tub branches and all. Pretty darn good smoke and a lot of it.

4 for 5 on the little maidens. I poured 1 quart of water in a trench along each side of the container where I buried a 1/3 cup of organic tomato fertilizer. Give the beasties a jump start. I also poured 2 quarts of water down the tube. I did that last week and as it drys out on the bottom, the humidity drops. This is the 1st time I’ve used any water up top.
What I’m getting at is I think that might be indicative of good airflow in the soil.

Yesterday I transplanted 2 of the seedlings to their own cups. It was my wife’s idea to have a control group to see which grow method turns out best. Good idea, I was just going to pull them. Looks like I’ll have a room full of tomatoes, hopefully.

Their new digs.

When they get a bit bigger I’ll move them to the grow room. Right now it’s too cold at night down there for the little ones. Have a good day.

:blunt:

So when I separated the plants, I left the smallest plant in the sip only because it was most centered. Well the other two are clearly out growing it. It’s either the light or the soil’s dead. The stuff in the cups is fresh FFOF.
So I remedied both. I Evened up the canopy and sprinkled a pinch of dr earth around the little one and watered it in with Recharge. There’s plenty of fertilizer in the sip, it’s just concentrated around the edges. I got a new light meter and ph soil tester on the way to dial it in. Right now it looks like tomato’s like light. I’m not sure exactly how much they need, I have to look it up. Have a good day. :yummy:
