Fresh Harvest Infused Cannabis Oil

So Mike, have you "tested" your oil yet? That spike in temps catches most of us unawares the first time, which explains the hovering. Lol!

Randy, thanks for the glass pan idea. I'll be incorporating that into my method. The fridge trick works for coconut oil mixes. Not so for olive oil, which requires separating through some other method. I'm liking the separator funnel idea myself and may purchase a set up next month.

Squeee! I hope the sep funnel works well for you!

Hmm, getting dizzy, so
swimming circles the other way...
hahaha!

I'm certain it will Dory. :battingeyelashes:

I looked at some Youtube Vids.. This looks like a Great Option indeed

I think it may be that last, vital piece of equipment. Well.... maybe a dorm fridge for drying. :laughtwo:

There's a first time for everything... LOL... I have to disagree with you in this one. Water and oil separate. I was able to extract an extra 60 ml of infused olive oil by allowing the oil-water mixture to separate in the fridge. Of course that top layer wasn't as solid as coconut oil would be, and it does require the additional separation by scraping it off the top and placing in shot glasses and back in a pan of hot water, but it works quite well.

My first batch, I tossed prolly about 80 ml of oil that was held in the second/ middle layer after refrigeration. It's a milky greenish brown color. The second batch, after taking the top layer, I placed back I fridge and the second layer further separated. I then put in shot glasses in boiled water where again it seperated to give me that sweet blackish layer on top.

I stand corrected Randy. :cheesygrinsmiley: Next time I'll be more diligent. When you do the next run of oil, I'd appreciate it if you could snap a couple photos of the reclaimation process. I'll do the same.

I will... I regret not having done so... better part of four days chopping, 3 kinds of oil, a bit too much sampling... maybe?!!... yeah.

This is where I stopped with the pic taking:

The color of the towel used to prop up the dish is key! I found that using a green towel made the oil too happy to stay where it was. I'm thinking a red or hot pink towel would make the oil run out faster!!

My fresh harvest oil is done, but I've been waiting for the liquid sunflower lecithin to arrive. Tick, tock!

How do I calculate the amount of LSL that needs to go into the oil?

For example: I started with 750 ml to 300 g of fresh bud. My final oil amount is 725ml. How much LSL per 100 ml?

I use a tablespoon for every cup, or about every 235 ml, so three tablespoons would be enough. That would be about 45 ml. That should do it.

Yes, but I haven't reached a therapeutic dose yet. My initial attempts required that I keep upping the dosage. By the time I was at 3 ml, I knew it needed to cook again. So the oil went back into the oven today for another round of decarb. This time I had an IR thermometer and the oil in a glass baking dish so that I could see the bubbles. Lots of bubbles and two hours later, I now have fully decarbed FHO.

My dosing has started from the beginning again to get used to this new oil. The only thing I've noticed so far is a very dry mouth at 0.4 ml.
At least I'll be well hydrated with all the water I'm drinking.

What's the ratio of the strain you used Lady A? I've forgotten what strain it was. And good work on the decarb. :high-five: We learn so quickly here, don't we? I love what we do. :cheesygrinsmiley:

For those who, like me, want to get as much oil out of the material as possible before secondary methods are used, thought I'd share what's worked for me so far.

In this pic you can see about a 3/8" line of clean oil across the leading edge about half way up the dish. What I did is use my small silicone spatula to "cut" that edge off and push it down to the pool. Then I'd move the oil laden material back up toward the pile and wait for more clean oil to run out.

You can see a clean spot at base of pile. Whenever I'd get a thicker patch of particulate mid-dish, Id move it up against the pile and press it with spatula.

It takes a bit of time to work it, but I think it's worth the effort. Recovering fairly clean oil made the filtration process much more efficient on my second batch and used less cheese clothe. I used cheese clothe for first strain and gauze for the final strain before re-heating and mixing in the last T. of lecithin. It was then refrigerated, checked for any further separation, and then into jars.
_______________

Looking to buy or build a press for oil recovery. I'm going to be making a lot of FHCO so on a mission to streamline the process. Wish I had my grandmas ole potato ricer. Lined with a hempcloth tea strainer, it would work awesome for pressing oil out of mash!

Im also looking at a gravy strainer that has a bottom port and toggle valve for separating oil from water bath recovery. Also test tubes for the final separation... the narrower the vessel, the deeper the oil, so the more that can be brawn out with a large 5ml dropper.

Hope somebody can use somethin in that there long winded whatchyamajigger!

Candida is usually advertised at a 20:1 strain. But there are several websites that will admit there is a range. Alchemia website listed some good info about the phenotypes:

Candida can contain from 10 to 20% CBD, while THC content is never above 1%. As usually happens, CBD content depends on phenotypes.

The Sativa phenotype, with longer internodal spacing, reaches higher CBD content than the Indica phenotype, although the latter easily reaches 10% CBD.

Looking through my gallery of the candida plant, I wonder if mine isn't the indica phenotype.

Thank you Randy. I got a lot out of that. Can't believe the pan idea didn't occur to me. :laughtwo: Ahhh.... the value of a bunch of brains gathered together. :hugs::hugs::hugs:

I have a potato ricer, and it's well worth the investment. It's an invaluable tool. I drop the cheesecloth-wrapped bundle of mash in and squeeze. It's made all the difference. Next run I'll make sure to document that part of the process. Usually my hands are too messy by then to use the camera. :laughtwo:

With CBD at that high a ratio you may not feel the effects until you stop taking it and you'll then notice how much it's doing. Are you getting noticable pain relief now that it's decarbed? If not, add something with THC. CBD, like THC, will effect everyone in individual ways. You'll either feel nothing, feel a little something, or get instant relief. Quite a wide range of effect, eh?

Remember it's THC that hits immediate pain signals, while CBD goes to work on potentiating the other cannabinoids and settling the inflammatory response. We need to remember CBD is more long-term, consistent work at the cellular level where THC is the one that needs to be the center of attention, the life of the party, so to speak.

We should never assume CBD isn't doing what we need, but you may not be able to feel it the way you always will feel even small doses of THC.

No noticeable pain relief yet, but I do seem to have slightly less stiffness in the legs, which is a step in the right direction!

Absolutely  My Blue Dream CBD should be ready for harvest in the next week or two, and that strain is a 1:1 split. So I'm thinking it might be the one that helps with acute pain during the day, but I'll continue the CBD therapy to support my ECS everyday.

Thank you for all the help, Sue! Because of you and others here sharing great information, I've been able to create FHO on my own. :hugs::Love:
