First Time Auto, First Time DWC, Northern Lights

Call me stupid, whatever, I'm cutting Ashburn (coco plant) tomorrow, with her fan leaves and some sugar leaves she looks dead, they break off to the touch.

So I cut all of the fan leaves off and ran some water through her, I don't believe in flushing but I didn't feed her at all today, I had a 12 hour work day and was not at home. I did this just before lights out at midnight.

Am I wrong? Not the greatest light to take pictures in but it's what I have. These are 3 pictures of the same bud as best as I can get, I don't think they will ever turn amber.

Right or wrong, Ashburn gets the chop tomorrow after work then Mullins will as soon as she stops pushing new pistils.
These are about 12 weeks in flower, I'd rather have a half decent smoke than a degraded, next to nothing smoke for the time and money I put into it.

Another long day at work and I came home to this on Ashburn, I had used the light's adjustable rope to hold up a branch that was too heavy at the end but it was the one beside it that broke.

Today's trich.

No time to chop and hang tonight I am just exhausted and I'll check on Mullins tomorrow.

Update on Zombie.

She's chugging along, showing her age by her alternate nodes and growing squat with no main stalk.

20200114_234631.jpg

So why not open her up and pin her down, looks like she's topped but not.

On with the zombie show!

Hey Canuck all looks well. Loving the zombie auto, got a great shape for training already. Plant yo-yos are well worth buying, they’re invaluable when you get the tall top heavy strains.

Thanks, yes that zombie grows on you, I'm definitely keeping her, I don't know where yet but I'm not going to cull her, I'm curious how she'll finish since she's already in self training mode.

I forgot to mention that it was Ashburn that went on full bloom nutrients solution yesterday, today it was Mullins turn to go on the full recommend mix by Flora trio, so a res change for her at bloom soup.

Ashburn.

The higher area of her stalk is filling in, it doesn't feel like a straw anymore.

The girls in natural light.

Under the 1000W (205w actual draw) light, veg and bloom switches are turned on. I have another light, exactly the same not in use at the moment until it gets used in another space for another grow in a few days or so.

Both girls had a slight defoliation the other day, I removed the lower dead fan leaves and a few larger fan leaves from both plants.

On with the show!
If you had used both of the LEDs from the beginning I think your outcome would be quite different.

Mullins res got topped up with a litre of water, ph swings down as expected in bloom, so keeping an eye on that, they are looking good.

On with the show!
Sweet!

On the evening of the 13th I had finally had some time during my hectic week to chop Ashburn the coco plant.

She wasn't much.

Trimming was painful because of this week I endured, my arms felt like rubber from work and I was exhausted, still am too.

Remember that these stalks and stems felt hallow? Well they still are! I didn't know what to think of this, but figured it definitely had something to do with these not turning amber but rather just starting to die after all of her pistils turned and no more were growing. A lot of her fan leaves dropped off to the touch and literally just snapped when moved so I chopped her.

I read up on this because I didn't know that it existed and there seems to be 2 different camps on it, one thought that it's normal and possibly genetics and due to hydro growing and the other saying that the plant was dying.
I'm leaning towards the plant was dying just because of the way the fan leaves were at this point.

I'll wait until Mullins stops pushing pistils then I'm chopping her too.

All of my hydro stems have been hallow at harvest so I’ve been drying them and making straws , pipes, etc .
The base is usually pretty solid , but I’ve had some great harvests with hallow stems?

That's interesting, so this is normal with hydro growing? My Durban Poison plants in coco were solid.

I seriously have no idea ? :yummy:
I have one strain , one in soil one in hydro ( mom and baby) so I will be sure to note the results

Ok, learn something everyday on this site!

After 3 days of drying the buds seemed over dry and crumbled, they definitely feel airy.

Into 2 jars they went and after a few hours they sit at 51 and 52 % humidity.

22.88 grams all together for Ashburn.

Now we wait for Mullins.

Last night before the Canucks game I checked the trichs.

So I decided to chop Mullins down.

I trimmed them while I listened to and half watched the game.

I'll probably get about the same from her as I did Ashburn. Which by the way sits at about 60 - 65 % in the jars, I open them up daily and give the jars a slight tumble to loosen up the bud so they don't stick together.

Mullins will dry for a few days then I'll weigh and jar her too.

Zombie update, I upped her nutes to half strength and she's loving it but she sure is a twisty girl, she goes back on herself everywhere and all I'm doing is pinning her 3 mains down.

20200119_134655.jpg

But in doing so I split her main a little, so I'll tape her for a few days.

20200119_134729.jpg

It's not a big split, it'll heal into a nice big knuckle.

On with the zombie show!
