First Grow

Yeah that was my concern. I germinated using the paper towel method and once germinated I put them straight into that pots. Do you think if I carefully scooped it out into new pots it would be ok? I’m curious as to how long to use the spray bottle method for watering. Should I keep using that while their that small and in big pots? Or should I use the watering can now? This is how they look today.

That’s how they look today.

Looks dry? Might be the combination of my eyes and lights, but the top looks too dry. It should always be wet to the touch.

I’d get it real wet and try with a scoop. You could always just let them run too. I’ve grown autos in solo cups before. It’s just a pita.

Yeah the top always looks dry but when I gently poke my finger down it’s still moist. Would you judge it by the top or a finger length down the pot? Also, I got 5 gallon pots for the photos today. Do you guys think it would be safe if I gently scooped them all into their new pots?

Coco is not soil they are totally different, coco is totally inert as in there are zero nutrients in there for your plants so you must bottle feed 1/4 strength nutes every day, No plain water ever, also the coco cannot be allowed to dry out, this is considered drain to waste hydro growing so hydro rules apply, meaning set ph 5.8 to 6.2. Feed once per day to start when plant gets bigger feed 2X per day and in flower feed 3X per day. You will need to add cal-mag for coco grows if you don’t have it then get some pronto

feed to 10% runoff each time flushes out the old ferts and delivers the new stuff
This advice is gold!

I appreciate the advice dude and thank you. I keep being told my pots are too small. I got new pots today so if I put the autos in 15litre pots and the photos in 25litre ones, what would be the best way to transplant them from the ones their in now over to the new ones? Their only 4 days old. I germinated them using the paper towel method and once germinated I planted them on Saturday
(4 days ago)
This is what they look like today. They look dry at the top but their moist a finger length down the pot.

The pot size just lets you go longer without watering... you growing in coco right? We want our coco to dry out ( not all the way) so we can feed em again. That’s the whole point of coco... so you can feed more often and have fast growth. Be careful who you listen to. Inside I like flowering clones of proven strains in 2-3 gallon fabric pots. Plenty big for me and I love how many plants I can stuff under a light!

Thank you for your reply. Yeah I’m growing in coco. Right at this moment the autos are in 12.5litre pots and photos are in 15litre pots. How many times per day do you feed yours when their the size that mine are currently at? Just once or do you feed twice? Also, when would you stop using spray bottle and start with a watering can?

Oh. Well autos you do want a little bigger pot so you don’t have transplant.. but the ones you got now are plenty big I think.
Cool, yeah I have 4 autos and 4 photos. Would you recommend transferring the photos from their 15litre pots to 25litre just now and if so, how would you do it?

It’s not that your pots are “too small”. Its that they’re “half full”. A 4L pot full will work quite different than a 12L pot with 4L of dirt in it. I’ve never had 8” of security walls around any plant before. I’m interested to see how they grow with no air movement. I’d be a bit careful with your “gold“ advice the way your currently sitting. Your Sitting susceptible to damping off. Good luck!

I’ve got a fan going too but some people say 2 fans be good. Wonder if I should put another fan in. I think I’ll add more coco just now and keep topping it up the more it grows until it’s full.

Don’t cause yourself anxiety. Youve got 8 plants in there. Transplant a couple photos, maybe fill a 12.5L and transplant an auto? You’ve got a ton of options. No need to put (or keep) all your eggs in one basket.
That’s actually good advice Spitz, thank you. The autos are in 12.5 just now. I have more 12.5 pots so I could fill one up and transplant into it rather than keep adding bits at a time.

Have fun and learn a few things. Knowledge is powerful. There are many proven “recipes” for success in soil, water, coco, LOS.... People push them because they work. Roll with what ya got, be flexible, and have fun.
Your advice is good dude and in my experience in life the same as everyone is we learn from our mistakes. If anything goes wrong now I’ll know for future but your right, have fun and try to enjoy the first time experience is what I want to do.

You really want to build a root ball and up pot(with photoperiod plants) I start seeds in solo cups and tumblers from the dollar store. I got you bro. Calm down. You could transplant into a smaller pot and work on that rootball if you wanted, definitely don’t need a bigger one... get fabric pots next time. You will like em!
Thanks bro, yeah I just ordered fabric pots today for future grows. I hear a lot of good things about them.
