First Grow, Deep Water Culture, Northern Lights, Pics

Well CA and CO have legal programs and that's why you see a alot of fine growers from those areas. We have to hold up the Midwest's rep on this thread! Lots of growing experience here in the MW but it's just not this plant. We can fix that!

Yeah, makes sense. Right on! We'll show 'em we got some out this way too. :cheertwo:

I'm in the midwest too! I don't feel so alone now. :slide:

We have a group of us now!

Those buds are looking awful sweet girl!

Thank you, FPF! They're nothing compared to your NL buds tho lol

Since I'm on day 40 now.. I've been thinking a lil about what kind of pre-harvest stuff I want to do.

What do you guys recommend? Flush with straight pH'd water for a week?

Now that's a big subject of debate inboth hydro and soil growing. As a new grower I'd recommend that you do the flush one week (or the last res change) before harvest. I only say that because that is what I do and I've not experienced a problem with it at all. You can learn alot about plant processes when you see how they start sucking up the nutes from the lower leaves in an effort to survive.

Now if you want to talk about strange things to do to your plant, I can fill you in. I do something called intentional stress for the last 10 days - 2 weeks before harvest. The reason I wait that long is to make sure the plant has no time to hermi after I stress it.
I do dastardly things to it. I stick thumb tacks up and down the main stem about 1/2" below the point where the branch with the bud meets the main stem. I twist the plant hard, I shake it violently, I movew the light too close then too far away. I let the heat or cold do what it wants. I turn off the light at random times and I turn out the lights completely for the last 2-3 days. The purpose of this is to get the plant to think that it is dying and needs to produce as many trichs as possible in a vain effort to get pollunated. I've done enough grows with the same strain with and without this techique and the stress is slightly better but consistantly better. I get more kief from a stressed bud than an unstressed one.

Now if you can't bring yourself to do the torture part then I would at least go straight water for the last week and turn off the lights the last couple of days. Remember at the end of this you are going to kill them anyway.

The weather is nice but I've been stuck inside working which is why I haven't been posting. Oh well... I got lots going on next month that'll get me outside.

Update post in a minute here... :peace:

Day 47 and they're still chugging along. They're on their last res change before they get flushed out with straight pH'd water so I'm getting close! I don't know if I can handle shaking them violently but I think I'm going to stick some tacks into the base stem during the last week.

My trich pic kind of sucks because it was hard to focus the camera while it was pointed down the microscope but you can see I have some cloudy trichs but mostly clear:

I've seen it in other grows with no adverse effect. You're girls and colas look great. Almost time! :yummy:

:thankyou: These last two weeks are going to kill my patience lol... I'm already like "Are we there yet?"

The leaves change all kinds of colors in the "fall". Enjoy the show. Pretty big buds for a skinny leafed sativa leaning NL.

Good deal... just wanted to make sure it wasn't a sign of something wrong (other than that they're dying because they're almost done flowering :P).

Yeah, they are decent size buds, I think. 2 inches across and 6-7 inches tall... must have done something right!

"cheese!"

ps.. shedding cats around sticky pot plants = pain in the ass. I've locked the cats out and picked the hairs off best I could... argh

You can actually see the calyxes start to swell in that last pic! Great pics, Sadalix424.

In about two weeks, we hope to get up a Deep Water Culture Contest. Information will be posted on the Deep Water Culture Home Thread here:

Deep Water Culture miss a lot of great discussions and debates about Deep Water Culture on that thread. This week, we saw on that thread that StealthHydro was offering an additional 15% Discount if you used the word MEMORIAL as a coupon. With the Deep Water Culture 10% Discount, that was a great savings. Please visit the HOME thread often to stay alert as to what the Deep Water Culture are up to. MostlyCrazy was nominated for May Member of the Month and I think voting starts today or tomorrow.
