First Ever Grow - But The Coolest Little Micro Grow Around - Spring 2016

WoW...That was a haircut!...lolool...gonna get some serious light to those lower bud sites now as well...be interesting to see how she reacts...even though too small for my tastes, I'm enjoying this!...very creative!...Cheerz!...h00k...

Greetings, Plucky (har!) Grower!

I think about my own plans as I watch you shape your plants. Have you considered weaving the growing tips back through your shelf (like a basket) as they grow above it? I understand that is a common technique, and holds all your bud sites in a single plane, that you can place in the sweet spot of distance from your light, putting all your buds at the ideal distance? That's what I'm planning and it seems like a cool idea.

Here's a how-to for small grows that 420 wrote just for you. ;)

What are your thoughts about doing some weed weaving? :)

Regards,

Happy

That is the plan for the next grow. If Ygrette continue to grow I will do that this time, but its not tall enough as of yet.

So, if I were to let her stay dark an extra 12 hours and then started the 12/12 schedule from there, would bad things happen? I have her lights on during the day now because I was more worried about light getting in than heat. It seems obvious to me now that the heat is the bigger problem and the light is well managed. Is it too late to try and change her to a night 12/12 schedule?

Lookin good. Love grow boxes, 4 sets of 2 stacked tubs and a crap load of cfls had me in perpetual heaven for years. Wish i would have done journals on atleast one set. Keep it up.

Great grow, many things to see and learn.

Why did you turn off your lights after switching 9-10 days ago to 12/12?
The temps got crazy yesterday for some reason. It was hotter outside than it had been, but not by that much. Ever since I started 12/12 I'd been thinking that it was a mistake to have the lights on during the day, but kept telling myself I'd just ride this one out and make sure I set them for night next grow. After yesterday it occurred to me that I might be able to get away with switching now, as plants in the wild don't always have set in stone light schedules, so I thought I'd ask. Now I'm trusting the answer I got and running with it.
With every trimming / haircut to my plants I thought I'm over doing it. After seeing your haircut I was like "Whoooo let's see whats gonna happen" :)

I'm here keep us posted.
I checked on her this morning and she looked happy as a clam. We'll see after an additional 12 hours of dark though. Pics will follow to try and satisfy everyone's curiousity.

Jayne, have you found a spike in your electric bill since doing this grow? I have a meter that calculates the energy cost of anything I have plugged into an outlet. (Kill-A-Watt is the name of the meter) They cost about $30 at Menards and I find it very handy in "examining" my electric costs of any device in my house. The dehumidifiers have to make your meter spin!

Gotta be honest my partner pays the electric bill so I have no idea if it has spiked noticeably or not. Probably not though as our electric bill is pretty crazy already.

Well Ygrette looks quite happy. Except of course the largest branch, which buckled when I decided to move it to a different hole because it was shading another branch. :yikes: Always something...anyway, I'm completely satisfied that I did the right thing by switching the light schedule and the defoil. So far neither of which seems to have any ill effects (although it is still a little early to judge the light switch for sure). See for yourselves...

The branch front and center showing you her backside is the one that buckled. I think it will heal and I tied it to the screen after. I guess we'll see soon enough.

Stay tuned...:Namaste:

Looking good :)

What do you mean by buckled? Did the branch snap?

GreenFingers
Well, I would say the same kind of thing as when you supercrop...if it were drier I would describe it as a snap, but it was more like a fold. No fluid out the sides or anything. It just kind of...folded.

Another interesting possible problem is that the res is getting full enough of roots that its pushing the net pot up slightly.

Ah that makes sense :) if its not broken I'd position it where you want it to be now as when it heals in a few days it will form a solid knuckle where the damage was, making the branch rigid.

Thats probably just because its a shallow reservoir, maybe try duct taping down 2 edges of the net pot to the lid?

Total newb that I am, I wondering if that snap wasn't a blessing--are you familiar with super cropping? One part is putting a piece of duck tape over the bend for a week, if the skin is damaged.

I'm planning to FIM my plants twice, then weave the branches into the screen so that all the buds grow in the same plane, if I'm fortunate enough to get as far as you have. :)

Good luck, and thanks for your journal.

Its barely noticeable at the moment so I don't plan to take any action unless I go out there and see roots above looking at me.

Well, I figured this day was coming. Light burn. The tallest stems are only 8" away from the light at this point. They're getting burnt. I turned the light down to ~75% power. Hope that helps.

Its actually pretty obvious in the LED pic.

If you look closely at the tips you can see the burn. The pic doesn't do it justice. It looks worse in person.
