First Attempt at Growing - Advice Welcome!

Re: First attempt at growing!! i say attempt because already going wrong

Hey there whiterasta, how are you on this wonderful Tokeday!!! It is still -10 where i live, this damn arctic blast is something else. Yesterday broke an all time record low for my area, -16 f. Enought with that though.

My suggegstion for lights is that you mix your colors of CFLs. When in veg have more of the 6500k bulbs with one or 2 2700k. And then vice versa with flower. More 2700k than 6500k. But you want a nice broad spectrum for your ladies. Since this is your first attempt i would say go with the LST and not supercrop. I have never done supercrop so im not the best judge, but i do know it take more skill than LST. And i like the whole not stressing your girls out!!I even do my LST with out topping my plants. Just tie the main stem down and tie everything that grows from it down haha. Good te hear you got some perlite!! It will make all the difference!!

Now as for you pictures. That is a really nice setup you have!! Can i ask the purpose of the books on the lights?? Your 4th picture seedling still looks to be over watered. Your soil looks to be very damp. Like you could almost squeeze it and it will puddle. With seedlings in that size pot try and water just around where the seedling is at, maybe and inch out from the stem. 5th picture looks to be damage from birth maybe.Maybe even got some water on her leaf and it burned from the light. 6th picture looks to be right on. Nice healthy little girl ;) ;) . The seedling in pic 7 and 8 looks to be improving. Her new leaves are looking much healthier. But still watch how much water you give them. And then the 9th picture looks right on. Nice healthy plant!!!

well i hope this helps you get started!!! Have a safe day my friend!!! :goodjob: ;)

Re: First attempt at growing!! i say attempt because already going wrong

hey pluto yeah man i heard on the news some parts of the US are getting -50 that is just insane like absolutely crazy weather i have a question though at -16 degrees how fast does it take for a small amount of water to freeze i bet its pretty fast but glad to know everything is still alright hope the weather is not effecting any grow you have going. thanks for the tip on the lights maybe i should put up my lamp hangers and stick 1 or 2 35w bulbs in there too i know you cant have too much light with these plants im just worried maybe too much at this stage could do more damage than i already have i was definitely going to make sure i have both spectrums but i was going to wait maybe another week until i think they could handle more light but i mean if it will be benificial this early then i shall get some bulbs asap but i may not be able to get them for a week anyway so for now will my 2 bulbs be ok? the books on top hahahaha i was hoping nobody would notice i know it might sound stupid but the reflectors are on yoyo`s not sure if your familiar with these but it is so you can adjust the lights with ease no messing around the work on a retracting cable that you can make looser or tighter depending on the weight there holding well my problem was even on the very loose setting they seem to still pull the reflector up a bit but only at the from i guess the cable and socket make it heavier at the back so i needed a small weight for the front of the lamp and it was the first thing i had to hand so i chucked the books on there thinking there not that heavy and to be honest they are doing to job perfectly i understand if my lamps were hps or gave off a lot of heat this could be a fire hazard but they are not even getting warm up there lol and of course if my plants get bored they have something to read hahaha as for the wet soil i think i made a mistake as when the seeds had germinated i put them in the coco and i watered til i had about 20% run off now after reading some more journals it seems i should have just misted the surface more at regular intervals my problem was i had a 2 very long shifts over the weekend and unfortunately couldnt be around to water them when they dried so i just done the whole saturate the soil and hope for the best :/ my mistake hopefully they will pull through i have not watered them since i am going to let them dry out then shall use less water at more regular intervals until i transplant to bigger pots i also havent watered my bigger plants since i transplanted as i also done the 20% run off method so am going to let them dry out as well. not sure what was going on with the one seedling which looks damaged as it came through the surface for the first day its cotyledons were stuck together by what look liked the inside of the seed i stopped myself trying to open them i just let nature have its way but it does look a bit messed up same with the little one with its cotyledons hanging down is this due to over watering i guess? but i have not watered since friday night when i planted them and i dont plan to water until i think there much dryer. with the home made humidity domes how long should they stay on for i have been taking them off to refresh the air every 6-12 hours i know it says every day but i just cant stop myself i have to go in there and find something to do :D my hygrometer is now showing 82f and 45% humidity i think the temp is because its so close to the light i need a fan asap!! because the other thermometer i have at the top of the closet reads 22c which isnt that hot i am trying to bring my humidity up to about 60-60% by misting in the closet i have a little bowl of water in there to let that evaporate and also have a wet towel hanging in there still not seeing it go up so not sure what i can do? thank you for the help and recommendations this site is fantastic i have read a few including Jorge Cervantes the indoor/outdoor cannbis grow bible but the amount of information and resources on this site is beyond any book out there :thanks:

Re: First attempt at growing!! i say attempt because already going wrong

Sounds like you have the idea man!!! Getting a fan in the grow will help get that soil to dry a bit faster. You should be ok though. Patience is key at this stage. Try not to over do anything and and just let mother nature do her thing!!!

+reps for the willingness to learn and take on this great hobby!!! :goodluck::peacetwo::lot-o-toke::tokin::Rasta::goodjob::bravo::high-five::Namaste::circle-of-love:

Re: First attempt at growing!! i say attempt because already going wrong

And something you may not have known about :420:

There are reps;

"Reputation is a way of rating users depending on the quality of their posts. If the administrators have enabled reputation, then the reputation icon will be visible in posts.

Reputation may be positive Positive Reputation Icon , negative Negative Reputation Icon or neutral Neutral Reputation Icon. Negative reputation may only be given if the administrator has enabled this. Neutral reputation is only given when the person giving reputation does not meet the criteria set by the administrator to affect someone else's reputation.

How do I give reputation?

To give reputation, click on the reputation icon in the relevant post. This will reveal a form to complete with the reputation type and the reason for giving the reputation. If negative reputation is disabled then it will not be displayed in this form. You may not give reputation for the same post twice.

How do I know what reputation I have received?

You can view the reputation that you have received in your User CP (User Control Panel) where it is displayed at the bottom of the User CP page. Here you will see the latest reputation that you have received and whether this is positive, negative or neutral. Your total reputation will be shown as series of reputation indicators in your posts and profile. The more positive your reputation, the more positive icons will be shown. The more negative your reputation the more negative icons will be shown.

How much reputation is given? What is reputation power?

If the administrator has enabled this, the amount of reputation that each user will give (or take away if negative) is shown in the user's posts as 'Reputation Power'. The value of the reputation power is determined by the administrator and may increase over time depending on the settings they have applied.

What if I don't want anyone to see my reputation?

You can disable the display of your reputation by going to your User CP and selecting Edit Options. On this page you will find a check box labelled 'Show Your Reputation Level'. Un-checking this box will remove the display of your reputation and replace it with the Reputation Disabled icon. You can still give and receive reputation while your reputation display is disabled."

And then there is the like button at the to the right at the bottom of each post. This shows appreciation or that you agree with what the member has said.

Doing these things will help you gain support around the forum. Shows other members that you appreciate their effort!! Go out and share the likes and the reps!!!

Re: First attempt at growing!! i say attempt because already going wrong

Also having a signature for your posts helps people find your journal. here is something i found to help set it up!!

Here's something that Butcher put together that should help:

1. Click the user cp button on the top left of your screen.
2. Click on the "edit your signature" button
3. in the message box click the globe with the lil chain link on it. See it? good, now delete the highlighted part when you click it, so its blank.
4.Paste this :
3600 watts first timer og, pinnaple and bluberry kush

Link to your journal

I just tried the link in your signature and it works!! Good job

Re: First attempt at growing!! i say attempt because already going wrong

Subscribed. Your leaf damage appears to be from either heat stress or light stress. You should contact Plant Magic Plus and ask them for a millilitres per litre recommendation for your coco coir. I would hold off longer before introducing nutrients to your plants. I would wait until your plant is 4-5 inches tall and the lower leaves begin to yellow to introduce 1/4 strength nutrients.

here is the contact page for Plant Magic Plus

Re: First attempt at growing!! i say attempt because already going wrong

heya everyone just looking for opinions on something im completing this grow with cfls I have not fully thought about what to do in the way of topping or fimming and lst or suppercrop so what are your suggestions I was thinking scrog but because it's different strains I though that might be pointless so any and all opinions wanted what would you do and why would you use that method???

Re: First attempt at growing!! i say attempt because already going wrong

just a quick update i bought an oscillating fan today just a cheap one but has now helped drop my temps to 75f give or take and has somehow made my humidity rise so instead of around 30 its now around 45-50 which is better for veg isnt it??? also guys im not sure how long to leave the little sprouts in the small pots because most people say like 2 weeks but i just lifted them up and there are like 1 or 2 roots coming out the bottom of the pot is this normal or should i transplant? thanks for reading guys

Re: First attempt at growing!! i say attempt because already going wrong

You could prolly do it now or wait a week more. I like to make sure they have nice solid root system before transplanting. The roots you see are prolly just loners out looking for water.
