Feral's Journal Of Insanity & Some Growing

re: Feral's Journal of Insanity & Some Growing

Holy shit, Batman! 4 pages already!! Told you! And worth it for the photos alone, dude. As usual, your tent looks textbook. And the plants look beautiful!!
Sorry I'm so late; didn't get a chance yesterday to get online except for my phone; it takes long enough on a full size keyboard. Typing on my phone drives me to drink...
Awesome! Good to have you back!!

Thanks man for the kick up the butt  Great to have you aboard bro :thumb:

Great update Feral! Isn't it heartwarming to watch a wilted clone spring back to life?
That Red Diesel looks luuuuuuscious! :bravo:

:thumb:

Thanks Canna :) its amazing what conditions these plants can survive in, give them hell and they thrive even more  Red Diesel is probably going to end up being one of my biggest single plant yields if she keeps going the way she is, quite easily 10+ oz i am thinking, i know im dreaming but would love to crack that pound mark :)

And last up for the night are a few shots of Red Diesel tonight, Day 35 :thumb: ive talked enough already

re: Feral's Journal of Insanity & Some Growing

I'm waiting for the "insanity" part. With Grizz here...that's bound to happen.

One of my favorite quotes:

"It's so nice to be insane....no one asks you to explain."

Rooting for a pounder for you!

Feral's Journal of Insanity - And Some Growing

After seeing your cloning tutorial the other day I went out and picked up a turboklone t24. Now to give it a whirl.

Next up we have a bit more cloning, filled the rest of my cloner up tonight :thumb:

I usually wait till i move them from early veg before messing with them too much but these have started powering on already, Elephant Stomper was the first candidate so i thought id grab a few pics.

Screenshot_1685.png

chop chop, i took this cutting right above the first set of nodes on this branch :thumb:

Screenshot_1686.png

There are a few good nodes up top but needs to be cleaned up down below, i just cut the node and fan off parallel to the main stem ;)

Screenshot_1687.png

then its into the cloning solution for a couple of minutes, in the neoprene ring and into the cloner(or whatever medium you use). This is how she looked after taking the clone, will be a very bushy plant in a couple of weeks

Screenshot_1688.png

And while i was at it i did a bit of topping/tipping. Ever since i was 17 working on an orchard we always called it tipping the plants as we were only taking the tips to promote mass branching, i wish i paid a bit more attention to some of the other aspects of the job now, would help a lot, its funny i see people grafting cannabis now on the forums, i never even thought to do it till i saw it but we were doing it with apple and orange trees 20 years ago  we also had a method called thinning which is essentially what we do when we strip the lower parts of our plants and remove all the "fruit" that will not get a good light source and also creates better airflow through the plant, thinning also included removing fruit that was bunched together to allow it space to develop (still yet to find a use for this yet, not removing my buds lol).

Anyways waaaay off topic, back to topping, first up a simple top of the main stem of this White Jack clone.

Screenshot_1679.png

Screenshot_1680.png

Screenshot_1684.png

Now a lower branch, first thing i do is take just the tip, leaving 2 nodes on the branch.

Screenshot_1681.png

Screenshot_1682.png

Now here is the fun part, if you want this branch to continue to grow in length, leave the main fan on, if you want to stop growth and focus all growth into your 2 new nodes, we then take the main fan which stops the branch from any rapid stretch, this will not affect the amount of nutrients that can travel to your 2 nodes and the small branch will continue to thicken as the plant grows, the 2 smaller fans for the nodes will now become our main fans for these 2 branches and will start to increase in size within a few days.

Screenshot_1683.png

I will go more into detail in a couple of weeks with defol and controlling growth etc when i have a decent sized plant to work with in veg  Hope everyone is well, back to the tents for me :)

re: Feral's Journal of Insanity & Some Growing

Good to see you taking it easier in here and not putting in to much time :rofl::rofl:

re: Feral's Journal of Insanity & Some Growing

  I know right  figures, done fuck all lately and thought id have plenty of time for a journal, soon as i start one i have hours upon hours of work come up in the tents lol. Mainly trying to get all the big stuff covered near the start so i can relax throughout the rest of the journal

Just got back from the hydro shop, got everything to see me through till the new year, loving the GH nutes and just about running out so i went for the gallon bottles this time, also got some florablend which is basically the only thing im missing :thumb: and i can finally put a veg CFL back into the early veg tent lol

re: Feral's Journal of Insanity & Some Growing

No worries at all DW :thumb: Im just glad if it helps someone or gives them the inspiration to at least give it a go :) the good thing about it is you dont need any fancy expensive items, pair of scissors and some cloning solution, can even get away with no cloning solution really, will just take longer to root :thumb:

I gave her a good topping all over, overall looks healthy and pest free, stood back to have a look and realized she has made a friend :) hopefully a few more start hanging around :thumb:

Feral's Journal of Insanity - And Some Growing

With cloning in the turbo klone, what temp do you want to keep the water.

I see a few people run a repeat cycle timer, like 7 mins on, 3 mins off etc. what do you think

re: Feral's Journal of Insanity & Some Growing

Thanks :) she is still surprising me every day i open the tent, ps. that first pic was from a couple of days ago, i cheated as my main photo turned out too blurry

Screenshot_1647.png

But yeah i didnt expect her to be this big this quick, half way tomorrow, main reason she is smack bang in the middle of the tent and the others squeezed around her lmao. I did say about 6 months ago i needed to grow bigger plants, now i need a bigger grow space
Very nice looking

re: Feral's Journal of Insanity & Some Growing

tbh i run my cloner 24/7 while cloning, i dont bother checking temps but it does warm up a bit in there having the pump running, I find there is usually no problem for a few weeks, then you actually notice the roots slowing down. I just change my water out every week or so as its needed, rather than topping it up all the time, this way you start fresh each time. Id say running a timer would make it last longer but tbh most of my clones are rooted within a couple of days, 2 weeks max for healthy vegging clones. The more water you run in a cloner the longer it takes to warm and the more stable it will stay, same as running a reservoir for dwc or flood systems ;)

Another way to get around this would be to use DM Zone or something similar, here's a bit of info i copied from their website, i use this stuff in my DWC's to keep the reservoir in check :thumb: Have not found the need for it in the cloner though, just change the water if you notice any changes ;)

We all know that fast growing plants have a big demand for food and water but were you aware of the fact that if your root zone system is not fully optimized, then your plants might be missing out on the ability to uptake all that they need? USAGE INSTRUCTIONS:

For best results, see our Growers Tips and use the online Nutrient Calculator for an individualized interactive feeding program to suit your needs.

To use Gold Range ZONE, simply follow these easy guidelines!

LIGHT STRENGTH:
Use this schedule from the day you plant out into your system, to the day you harvest for worry free gardening! Recommended for continual use right through grow and flower when water temperature is below 21C / 70F. Add Gold Range ZONE at the rate of 5 ml / 1 teaspoon per 20 litres / 5 gallons of final tank level or volume, with all other additives and before adding your primary nutrient. Check and adjust final nutrient strength using a TDS (PPM or EC) meter. Adjust pH to approximately 5.5 for Rockwool, Perlite, Clay, Vermiculite, Aeroponics, DWC, NFT, Hydro or Coco users or 5.9 for dirt or soilless systems such as Promix or Sunshine mix. See Growers Tips for more info. Feed according to your systems normal requirements.

MEDIUM STRENGTH:
Use this mid range strength whenever your water temperature reaches or exceeds 23C / 74F. Your root zone can quickly get out of balance when your water temperature reaches or exceeds this mark. Using Gold Range ZONE at this strength, before problems occur, will optimize your root zones condition until your water temperature falls back into the safe area below 21C / 70F. Add Gold Range ZONE at the rate of 9 ml / 2 teaspoons per 20 litres / 5 gallons of final tank level or volume, with all other additives and before adding your primary nutrient.

AGGRESSIVE STRENGTH:
Use this strength at first signs of a ‘less than optimal’ root zone. Using Gold Range ZONE at this strength is very effective at quickly re-establishing optimal root zone conditions. Once your plants have regained their vigour, return to using medium strength Gold Range ZONE for the remainder of your growing and / or flowering cycles. Add Gold Range ZONE at the rate of 12 ml / 2 ½ teaspoons per 20 litres / 5 gallons of final tank level or volume, with all other additives and before adding your primary nutrient.
