FelipeBlu’s Outdoor Hempy Photos & Autos 2020

High HashGirl! :passitleft:

I hope you’ve had a wonderful day so far! Thanks for the kind words!

Right after they started pushing out the node 6 leaves, I topped both BeBos right below the 5th node, leaving the stem between there and node 4. I’ve found that there’s less chance of the main stem splitting if I do that, rather than making the cut right above node 4.

I also removed all of the node 1 growth to clear out below the bucket rim for better air flow. Also, the buds from node 1 always seem to be smaller for some reason - despite being the closest to the roots.

I then started training the secondary stems from nodes 2 through 4 to keep them flattish. I use a thicker “chalk line” to restrain them. Thinner string/twine can cut into the stem. No bungee cords were used.

I will keep these stems flat as long as I can (to the edges of the tub for BeBo1, and as far as the telescoping rod will allow for BeBo2), then let them go vertical. I’m probably looking at another 1-1/2 to 2 months before they start stretching, and I don’t want them much over 7-8 feet.

Hope that helps you understand my approach, but please don’t hesitate to ask more questions.

I see tomatoes, peppers, and some kind of citrus...what EC is the girls at these days?

¡Hola Buck! :high-five:

Yeah, the citrus trees are a dwarf meyer lemon and a dwarf mexican lime. I have a hard time keeping them moist enough in those clay pots. I’m thinking of getting some 1/2 wine barrels for them both.

The Italian pepper overwintered and started up again (we had a very mild winter - didn’t freeze this year).

The Bebos are currently at 1.55 EC (775 ppm), with (per gallon):

1.5ml Calimagic
5.25g MC v1
3ml ProteKt
1.5ml 7.5% battery acid (homemade pH down)

The tap water is currently (today) at 37ppm/8.8 pH. I’m mixing up 20 gallons at a time now, in a 30 gallon tub (that won’t be getting a Blueberry now).

This provides:
143 N
33 P
188 K
114 Ca
33 Mg
50 S
1.6 Fe
68 Si

At a pH around 5.6, which I will need to bring back down from ~6.3 tomorrow (in the tub).

On hot days like today (101F in the yard), I dilute this down ~18% to 1.3 EC, because they are really transpiring, and sucking up the water.

See how even the second node secondary stems are smaller than the third. This is why growers remove them when doing a quadline. But there’s plenty of time outdoors for them to actually become something productive.

I would just do a fertigation with plenty of pee to flush out that nasty rain water.

I just went back and read this again, and it occurred to me that some might think I was saying something other than fertigating so that there is a good strong stream coming out of the hole.
Clear now? :laughtwo:

do you mean the second node growth tends to be less productive, or the third?

My experience has been that, for a short indoor grow (6 weeks or less of veg), the first and second nodes tend to be less productive. I find that it’s probably better to remove them so that the energy can go towards making bigger buds higher up. But for a outdoor grow, there’s enough time (and a moving fireball) for the second node, at least, to be worth keeping.

BLAH BLAH BLAH and I don’t want them much over 7-8 feet.

7-8 feet!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!! :meatballs:

I read ages ago amongst seasoned growers that the first node can produce the biggest colas, but clearly that’s not your experience here. Maybe the shorter veg time as you say. I grew an un-topped bush outside and the colas off the first node were definitely More robust than some higher ones and nearly as big as the main cola.

have wondered why
I think the Uncle Ben’s method keeps the first 2 nodes as they are the most developed at the time of topping (and you chop off 2-3 nodes when you top). Aims to minimise time loss while still producing 4 main large colas. Still needs 6 weeks minimum in veg tho, and maybe longer. I think my first one I did an 8week veg. My current one I’m aiming for 6, so we’ll see what it looks like when it gets there.

I was just looking at the Sour Bubba am doing the UBT method with and it absolutely shows what Felipe is talking about, the secondary shoots being less vigorous on node 1 branches, so I took a pic to share as an example. Node one is top-to-bottom, node 2 is side-to-side. This is nearly 5weeks into veg. Flip in a couple of weeks.

Excellent example indeed. Thanks for sharing it.

Yeah, that too! :laughtwo:

Actually, even when I keep the second node stems, I remove most of the (larfy) tertiary growth under the canopy, and just go for the cola. I was referring to the colas though - they tend to be smaller and thinner in my experience.

Hi Felipe, Amy.... :passitleft: Nice looking girls. I've topped my greenhouse plants and am training them kinda the same. I waited until there were more branches than usual. As a result, my Afghani are spread wide and look to be big producers. Is that seed a real red Columbian? I loved the Columbians, red and gold, that we used to get in the east coast and in the Caribbean back in the 70s....uh oh....I've dated myself. Lol! Really super expanding, eye drooping, wonderful herbs! I hope everyone and their loved ones are happy and healthy. Stay safe and stay stoned.
