Ethos Crescendo RBX1, Photoperiod 2023

Hey Gaines, Yeah I have some time in veg still for sure, I'd like to get her about 16" tall before the flip and she's around 7" now. I do plan a move to a 5G fabric pot, likely in the next week or so (this grow is flying, I can't believe its time for another up-pot). You still growing out there or taking some time off the journal? They can be a pain sometimes to keep up with.
Yeah brother, a little max out at the moment on keeping my journal active. All good though man, trying to keep in touch with you guys the best I can.
Ill spark up the journal again soon when I have a rotation.

Cool, totally understand. Can't wait to here more about that strain you were creating (the name escapes me).

Hey 4-2-0, Everything is going pretty well although she looks a little droopy to me. I think she's rootbound (she's been in that pot for 19 days) so I will be up-potting tomorrow to see if that helps.

Hey Everyone....a ton going on this week but in summary, I can't veg a worth a sh*t! She looks pretty crusty despite a clean transplant. She was really root-bound so hoping that's the root cause (pun intended) of her scabby looking appearance. Good news though, she's in her final home, a big 5G fabric pot, she can stretch her legs, and with no more transplants ahead, we can focus on getting her right for flower.
  1. Soil in the 5G fab pot is a base 50/50 mix of Fox Farm Happy Frog and Ocean Forest, cut 66/33 with perlite to let her breath
  2. Yesterday I mixed up the soil and loaded the new fab pot. About 2/3's full, I placed the current 1G pot in the new one and buried her (essentially creating a perfectly sized hole for the transplant), then watered it all in with 2G of PH'd DI and Fox Farm Big Bloom.
  3. Today, i was able to pull the old 1G pot out of the 5G....check out the nice hole left for her to snuggle up in
  4. I lined that hole with liberal dashes of Great White Myco and then pulled little Crescendo from her 1G pot w/o too much trauma this time.
  5. She looked really root bound as you can see. I hope this explains her rather shoddy appearance. Note to self, transplant a week earlier.
  6. I wet the root ball and dusted it with more Great White Myco and dropped her in the new 5G hole
  7. I added about an inch of Worm Castings to the 5G pot as a top dress and watered it all in with 1G of a 25% feed (FoxFarm Bigbloom, Growbig, CalMag (400ppm), Mr. Fulvic's Fulvic Acid, and yes, 1/2 TBSP of Great White Myco per Gallon)
  8. Because she wasn't stressed enough, I trimmed the bottom up a bit and used the Carhook method to train her two primary mains and side shoots out wide. She's bent over a bit, I thought about trying to fix it but decided against it, she's stressing enough w/o me trying to pull her upright.
  9. Finally, I washed her up (PH'd DI, around 6.2), her first bath, and turned down the lights (25%) to let her dry
  10. She's resting comfortably now after a hell of a morning.....I'll sneak back in there in another hour and turn the light back up to 50% and its off we go!

Good morning :)

You’ve voiced she’s not your goal when growing so I have a question. Do you think you might over complicate growing a little?

And my opinion I don’t think plants like stress.

Hey Tra.....I love how honest you are and its a damn good question. I don't know honestly. I "simplified" this grow by reducing soil additives (dolomite lime and Myco which I water in weekly). The 50/50 mix of Ocean Forest and Happy Frog soil was a 1-time thing to use up both bags, I normally would just stick with one or the other. Maybe the Fulvic Acid needs to go, I can't say I've noticed much difference since I started using it anyway. What do you think I am doing that is over-complicating? EC/PPM concepts seem really important, DLI just keeps me from zapping her with the light (re Mimosa EVO).

I'm torn about the stress thing. I agree that stressing her early on doesn't seem like the best idea, and I wasn't trying to stress her there, but I think certain stress techniques (like the main-line/flux technique I was trying to do, or maybe droughting late in flower), while they may not always be the best for the plant, can do wonders for the buds.

Okay my advice again, and advice you once again didn’t ask for…

Growing is like learning to ride a skateboard. You gotta get your balance first. Tricks come later.

Learn to grow a healthy plant first. Whether that be a house plant or a canna plant. Watch the process, learn to read the plant.

When I first joined here I was bombarded with help. Super confusing pH PPM ECG CalMag K S&M grow help. I went to the hydro shop and got further confused and then fucked in the arse buying things I don’t need, pH pen included. I made growing so complicated. Then I remembered I’m a gardener first. Canna is a plant. I can grow plants. I got rid of all the nutes, the pH pen and the overcomplicating growing.

I use dirt. I use Mega Crop. I use water.

Once you have mastered plant health, then you can look at “stress” techniques. Well I think that’s what you should do lol.

Hey Trala....Thanks, I totally asked for it and am glad you said something. I have a ton of respect for your grow skills and that's why I am here, to learn from folks like you and to have some fun. This is how I am in life.......find something I am interested in and over-complicate the hell out of it ! :)

I agree, I have too much going on so don't know why she isn't responding well. I've pulled the fulvic acid from the rotation and am delaying the start of anything new (Flowers KISS, for example). All she gets now is what the Fox Farm feeding schedule calls for (Big Bloom, Grow Big, and CalMag). According to their feeding directions, its important to keep the PH in a range of 5.8-6.8, so I held on to my PH pen, but i have read how people throw them away and let the soil do all the work. Megacrop looks like a 1-time add-in to the soil, an interesting and easier alternative to weekly mixing of nutes. If I can't get this girl right maybe I'll change up and try something similar. I'm tired of shitty looking plants in veg.

sorry been sick as a dog and not feeling much like posting. I'll get something up today, she's looking better after I removed all the extra-curricular "stuff" i was giving her, go figure.

Sorry everyone, I've been really sick (had covid and then the flu with a wicked overlap) and just didn't have the will power to post. If you have been following along you know my girl has what appears as an incurable CalMag deficiency, so I cut back on all non-essential supplements to give her a chance to "get right". For me that means no Fulvic Acid nor Silica and a delay of Molasses and Fox Farm KISS foilar spray. I've been hyper focused on the wet-dry cycle as well and gave her one small spray with epsom salts, both to encourage CalMag uptake. The results are positive so far, she looks much better and is growing into her new 5G fab home much more aggressively. She's 13" tall now, wow that was fast. I need to flip her pretty soon or she's gonna go through the roof of the tent. Maybe 1 more week of veg........

This first picture is 1-week ago...the rest are after her "treatment plan":

Hello you!

Omg it’s summer here and the LRTI’s numbers are CrAy cRaY. It’s not flu season here, so I can only imagine what the Northern Hemisphere is doing given you guys are smack bang into the flu zone.

And your plant looks good! Real good!

Perfect bro 👌. She's looking great 👍
Thanks Gaines, Merry Christmas to you and the family. The Seahawks are still alive in the playoffs!

Thanks Tra, she's definitely looking better. OMG I basically didn't move for 3 days, then wished I couldn't move for the next 2-3. Typing on a keyboard made my fingers hurt, it was horrible, but I am on the mend now. Happy Holidays!

I'm pulling for them, hopefully they give DJ more reps. He's a badass.
My Falcons are playing like the falcons, horrible!.. 😂
Hope you guys have a great Xmas as well brother

Merry Christmas 420.........All is well with C-RBx1as we move towards the flip to a 12x12 light/dark cycle. She's really growing fast (2 inches in 24 hours), up and out, and has become a stocky, beautifully green, 17" shrub. With my smaller tent she needs to be flipped before she gets much taller so here is the plan:

1. I fed her 2 days ago, 1.8 EC of core veg Fox Farm nutes (CalMag, Big Bloom, Grow Big), PH 6.1
2. That same day I trimmed her bottom legs and a few troublesome leaves and runners, she was hairy down low
3. I'll give her a few days to recover and then will put her through a 36-48 hour dark period to kickoff the flower
4. When the lights come back on we will be on a 12x12 cycle and can start working through the stretch
5. I wanted to flush her this week but didn't get to it so am going to wait to get through the stretch and then flush to wash away any excess salts

Light: 12 Hours/day, 22" from Canopy at 75% Intensity

Hey Everyone.......I gave her a 36 hour dark period and turned the lights back on 3 days ago and we are now on a 12x12 lighting schedule. She's looking good, is really growing fast, and is starting to get a little stanky. I fed her yesterday and introduced her to Fox Farm Open Sesame, a phosphorous booster that promotes flower development (EC ~2.4-2.6). In the past, this stuff and Fox Farm Tiger Bloom (which she will get next week) generates tremendous growth/stretch . Note to the wise....there is a switch on most of these non-digital timers. When its pressed one way, the timer is ignored and the power is just "on" all the time. When its flipped the other way, the timer settings you plugged in are actually followed. Somehow, my timer had been turned "on", so day 1 of her pre-flower was a 24+ hour pulse of light before I caught it. She should be ok, but makes me wonder if I veg'd like that, re, 24 hours of light per day for 45 days....lets assume I didn't do that :).
