Emmie's Vegan Fertilizer, Pineapple Chunk 2020 Celebration: Experimental Soil Grow

Burn will cause clawing. And your new growth will be affected as well. Yellowing and weird blotchy brownish color of the lower leaves and tips like this is, more often than not, general deficiency of the macros.

I'm also 5+ weeks into bloom with non-MC nutes prior so my whole xperiment probably has nothing to do with MC, but a general newbie's fiddling and figuring things out on the fly. With my recent order of Vulx and MC already, I'll try and withhold as much as I can the experimenting on the next grow, but I'm an engineer, so I can't help it!!

These are growing amazingly.

It's helped me decide to try starting in 1 gal bags next time.

I love the idea of the MC, nutes made easy, I can't buy it here in the UK but it's top of my shopping list when I visit the states next year.
you can get it on amazon mate. I am in UK too. I got mine next day delivery but only in 10kg (9.5kg) bags. well worth the money and will last so long. No uk sellers but amazon can get it from European and uk distribution.

Finally caught up Emmy, wownubare a busy lady here too. I am in Los and coco mediums and have been trying to keep up as you had switched up to mc from so many years organic. Being an Emilya mega-fan has taught me so much about plants we love and using soil to the point of trying it out. Wont bore you with details as you have been in my thread but know how busy you are so quick refresh for clarity and sense.lol reading this journal had me on the road buying MC in a day after deliberation for ever because of buying all the los and amendments but as you are doing , I tinkered with the LOS and paid !!!. lol I am now back to water only with them as it is 1st use store bought supersoil " for life". I fed them way to much alongside my coco pots and N kicked them with a bang. I had also added calmag and silica to farside05 calcs for my coco pots (I should have reduced hugely for the LOS in hindsight !) With this mix at 10g/10LMC and additional 10ml of calmag and silica , it bent my LOS girls right out of shape. I use mealworm frass( eco charge) and biosys teas for the LOS and charged my coco with the charge before planting . I am perplexed to the damaged girls cause but she is still growing steadily ? . I also had my led way too close at 18" too which may have also been a factor but more suspect it was too strong a dose . I am on MC V3 ( 2.5?) and have only got 1 girl who is showing odd colour and damage in a coco pot. not sure whether to lower her dose or keep it going yet. good luck with keeping your beauties happy.

Yep, those are some stressed out plants and best I can tell in that light, most of that damage appears to be from too much light. These plants are tough though, just keep on with the lights at the new height and lets see how they do!

And sorry for all the confusion regarding me switching suddenly to MegaCrop, but I am glad you are following along. Nothing could have gotten me out of organics other than some amazing new science such as this, and one that I believe is going to change the way we think about nutrients. Those experimenting with these new aminobound nutrients are right on the cutting edge of the technology, and I find that is an exciting place to be.

Maybe do it in stages? One at a time as you have a few minutes. Sometimes that's the only way I can get anything that as a whole would be a huge time suck done. :)

Thank you emmy. confirmed a few others advice too. damn I love this place.lol .I will keep the stuff as is now and watch with interest as you journal.
love watching you work too. Always an education but in such a personal and interesting manner. Love your style and finesse. I want a campaign for you to be on staff and getting credit for the amount you do here for the community. Thank you .

@Emilya do you still water them with the outside-in style over several hours, or does that come later (if at all anymore?) when they are in larger containers?
Oh yes, I always attempt to make the outside edges the wettest spots in the container. The migrating of the soil in the rootball can happen by forcing water into the center region and then watering around the outside edge, in any container... but it only starts becoming practical in 1 gallon and above.

The migrating of the soil in the rootball can happen by forcing water into the center region and then watering around the outside edge, in any container... but it only starts becoming practical in 1 gallon and above.

So do you _only_ water the edges and let the water get drawn in to the middle, or also water to the stem?

There were times in this grow, especially early on, when I only watered the outside edges. This technique is very useful in the beginning when it is taking a while to use all the water all the way to the bottom. If several days go by and I am still waiting, I will water just the edges.... teasing the roots to grow laterally to meet the water.
Later when I am trying to migrate microsoil around inside of the rootball, essentially helping to exchange soil for root mass in that space, I will water just around the original rootball, or a circle around the trunk about 1/3 the diameter of the container. I want to drive microsoil out of that area and if you do it right you can see a little ridge of soil rise up just outside of the area you are watering. Then wait a few minutes and come back and water the outside 2/3 of the container, aiming for the middle of that region. This will drive microsoil back toward the center root mass, and it will exchange as much as it is able to. With proper watering techniques you can actually create a circular flow of soil from the center to the outer edges and back again. This technique also creates a situation where for a while the soil is liquid and your flow forces it to make its closest possible contact with the roots before it sets back up. It really is a beautiful thing that happens when you properly water.

The 2x4 tent got reorganized today and the soil needed for the transplant was measured out.I have about half the @Vulx that I need to fix up this next 10 gallons of soil, so I am waiting to do the transplant on the day that the Vulx arrives. Today they all needed watering again and they got the rest of the current mix of 3.5g/gal MC, .4g/g SC and 1g/g SK.
The plants were moved to the 2x4 tent and they are now under the big COB light array. This time the Angelina reflectors will be left on the COBS and the light intensity will be dealt with in other ways. @fanleaf For now the lights are quite a ways away from the top of the canopy and they are delivering around 10k LUX or 150 PAR, at a total of 120w from the wall, with the capability even at this height to deliver 1200 PAR, a virtual solar flare, to the canopy.

The new veg tent is climate controlled, maintaining a temperature of 75°F and an RH of 60%. There are two oscillating fans keeping the plants moving and the big extractor filter has been moved to a corner of the floor on the left side of the tent and the COB light array has been moved to favor the right side of the tent. On this run we will only have one larger dead spot in the room (the left edge) and we should be able to concentrate more light on the right side as compared to last run where each of the 4 corners became low intensity spots.
They are looking a little rough still, but they are gaining back some color and not showing any new complaints, with the new higher level of MC on the last 2 waterings. With the next watering with the transplant, I am going up to the full Veg recommended dosage of 4g/g. Today another of the plants needed a second chop on the two main top nodes as we wait for the side nodes to catch up.
Here they are spread out under the better light, and getting ready for their bed time during the peak electricity usage rate times between 3pm-9pm. They will wake up just as rates go down to the night time level and hopefully will be very happy with their new environment.

I'm glad we don't have that here. :)

We have usage tiers where the price goes up a tick based on how much you've used total for the month, but not by the hour. Of course the tiers aren't exactly friendly, either. :(

You would actually like it once you figured out how to use it to your advantage. I have been on that tier system for a long time and having multiple computers in the house along with grow lights pretty much automatically puts me in a tier I don't want to be in. I regularly get helpful hint mailers telling me that surely I can learn to be more efficient, since I am 800% less efficient than my neighbors.
Now in certain markets we have the option of getting a new smart meter and with it, I can adjust the times that things happen around the house to be more efficient. We turn off most everything that can be turned off during the peak energy usage time, and by only using the bulk of our power, running the dishwasher, cooking, washer/dryer, even the heating and cooling during this peak time is minimized or reduced. We now do our bookwork, eat dinner, read and chat and get high and just chill out without electronics for the most part during the late afternoon and evening, and then at 9pm we turn on the TV and stream what we like to watch. I am very smart when it comes to gaming this smart meter. We have saved about 40% on our energy bill as compared to the tier system and I am looking for ways to save even more. Why can't the deep freeze be on a timer and non smart fridge too? We now turn off the computers during peak time and use our tablets, which are charged up in non peak hours.

sadly the meters are untested microwaves emmy. researched a lot in the past and now refused so many . they emit pulses of radiation into your environment at 90000 per day to stay in touch with the stations. This radiation is known to cause a lot of physiological issues and potential cancer risk to children. Try and get one removed and see how hard it is. Some very odd legal frameworks around their removal and use too in the uk. please have a research for yourself to see what I mean. Nothing is ever done for our benefit in business !!! . There are more sinister uses for this new tech along with 5g too. It is already weaponized to disperse crowds at a slightly higher power setting , once these become networked with their many on street tower arrays , the vibration and frequency can very easily be accelerated to cause nausea and low mood. scary stuff but very real . sorry for the waffle but those meters are being exposed worldwide now.

Lots of things in our world today have automatic transponders in them, from the life alert that my father wears to the meter on the gas supply coming into the house that no longer requires a meter reader to come in to see. I use microwaves and upper UHF all the time in my ham radio world, and pulses of high powered radio waves out of my computers (look up ham radio digital modes) has not killed or maimed anyone around here yet. Lots of people do studies, and yes it is best to minimize your exposure to excess RF radiation. One big thing we do here is turn off our wifi when we are not using it... do you? Especially when you sleep this is important. Never sleep near a charging cell phone.

There are also well known cases of low frequency radiation being particularly harmful, and we know that cancer and leukemia rates go way up around high tension power lines and distribution stations. 5G does worry me a little and I don't want to live next to one of the high powered transmitting antennas, but I think that a lot of this danger we hear about is just hype.

Limit your exposure as much as you can and don't wear your phone on your body. Rather than using radio frequency transmitters as weapons, it appears that there have been experiments in several countries in using high powered sound waves as weapons, just outside the range of hearing. These powerful sound waves are almost vibrating fast enough to be considered to be very low frequency radio waves, but the physics of this wave acts a lot more like sound when it hits solid objects, and some of the effects of these focused sounds are being found to be extremely powerful and harmful. There are lots of new "focused sound" weapons being tested right now, from crowd disbursement to wall of jericho type stuff. For now though, I don't think my two smart meters are going to kill us.
