ElDoctore's Self Watering Coco - Candy Kush AF - Pineapple Chunk PP - VIVA Sativa PP

Recirculating Water In Coco

Yeah... started off simple, pump in; pump out... what could go wrong... lol this blog will tell you to make sure you get it right first time along.
From using black vinyl pipes, 3/8" for drainage. Starting off from cup to 7 gallons directly because the roots grow very very quickly with the continuous watering. Elevate trays and make the drainage from the middle center of the tray not side, using mesh 50 rather then 100/200, using 50% of what GH recommend, armour si to up the ph, and always have a contingency plan for if your tent floods :D... etc

The second reason I like hand waterings is, it gives you time.. Time to admire, time to see if there's anything else you need to address, time to see things that you wouldn't in a automatic system, but yeah daily water and feed and you should be OK.

What if you want to water them 10 times a day because it gives you more yield and u can't afford DTW because water and nute are scarce?

Big roots is good! ;)

Damn roots like Rapunzal!

Didn't expect them to grow this big honestly. Especially the auto flowering.
One of the AF is closing to its end, the other is half way through flowering, and the PP have yet to be switched and they are already more then a meter high, but constricted due to space restrictions.
The smell is therapeutic to say the least, and the crystals look good.
Once I harvest the 2 AF I'll put each PP in a half of the tent, give it a week to settle, then make the switch.

I ordered 2 x 1000W LED panels, one over each plant, new company called dmogogo, something like that, Chinese, triple chip, light.

I am defoliating the AF every 4 days, I remove the new long leaves, and keep the small new ones growing. Not sure if I am cutting too much. Maybe I shave off almost 10- 15% of leaves each time.

Here are some pics with some closeup of the buds.

As for the reservoir, I think for 4 plants, this one does an ok job. Now at this stage, I get the pH dropping from 5.9 to 5.5 a day, water loss 16 litres a day, ppm loss almost 150 a day.
I just gently top up all nutes giving priority to the trio and cal mag, then the rest.
Very happy with the 10 watering a day in terms of results.

Looking great! :thumb:

If the PP triples in size after the switch, can you accommodate that much height?

> I am defoliating the AF every 4 days, I remove the new long leaves, and keep the small new ones growing. Not sure if I am cutting too much.
I always wondered the same thing when I defoliated, but my plant just kept bouncing right back and bushing up again. I think that's the power of hydroponics.

> water loss 16 litres a day
4 gallons a day!? How big is your reservoir again?

If my PP triple in height I am screwed. I only have 1.2 meters left to grow upwards.
Might need to use LST or ScroG

Yeah, and I can guarantee you only 1 litre is lost from evaporation from trays, the rest plants. Reservoir almost 15 gallons

Or flip that switch now?! ;) (You could just take the PPs out of the tent and put 'em in a totally dark closet for 12 hours a day...)
Have you read about "supercropping"? If not, you might want to have a look at that soon...

> Yeah, and I can guarantee you only 1 litre is lost from evaporation from trays, the rest plants. Reservoir almost 15 gallons
Wow, you've got some serious biological engines running there!

> Is there a thing as switching too late due to size constraint? Or can the plant always be tamed?
I think there is such a thing as switching too late and from what I have seen in logs here it does happen. And unfortunately, the tips of the plant that you might want to prune are where the flowers are.

Re: ElDoctore's Self Watering Coco - Candy Kush AF - Pineapple Chunk PP - VIVA Sativa

It's been a while since my last update.
Everything running smoothly. I changed to 12/12 5 days back, now slowly started harvesting the coco.
The pistils are 30% brown, cloudy trichomes around 40%.
I tried it by quick drying a bud I. The oven and it was heavenly.
I am posting a few pics but they are a 2 days old, I will post pics of harvest tmrw.

The PP are starting to stretch. I noticed today some bottom leaves started to yellow and become frail, I believe it's N deficiency, so just topped up the reservoir.
Haven't changed the water in reservoir in almost 2 weeks.
I noticed something peculiar, for the past week I have only visited the place every 48 hours.
I start off the reservoir with 6.2 pH, after the coming watering, the pH always drops to 5.5, even if I leave it for another day, it never goes below 5.5. If I top the pH to 6.2, then as soon as the next watering, drops to 5.5. Since it's within safe range, I left it for 48 hours untouched, came back, even though almost 3 gallons of water gone, pH was still 5.5. I did calibrate the pH meter, it really baffled me. I wonder if I use pH up rather then armorsi the pH drop to 5.5 would happen.
