The heat mat is to get the soil and seed to a good germination temp. Once the seed is cracked and the plant is growing, you don't necessarily need your soil warm.Just curios Morglie, the no heat mat with clones is that because at that time the roots are helping keep the plant cool.
The reason the bag works is because it's sealed. It keeps the moisture from your breath in the bag and doesn't let it get dry like a lot of our grow rooms get at this time of year. You would need to have an air tight tote for it you work in the same manner.Would same method pertain to if I have my clones in a tote with the lights inside of said wouldn't it do the same just keeping the lid fully closed the first few weeks with the occasional burp to let in more fresh air? Or would the bags over my plants then inside said tote be best?
You're welcome. Gotta share the knowledge. Thanks for the advice my appreciated
I use bread ties to close mine. You want to be able to open and close them to check for roots.I need rubberbands cant tie these with the ladies in them without ruining the clones
Thanks for taking the time to post that ween, that's going to save me a trip to the grocery store for sure.I was not a fan of the bag method. I found it cumbersome. What I've been doing since with great success is cutting 80% or so around the top of a small water bottle so it opens like a mini dome, putting about 1/4" of water in and placing my clones in rapid rooters in the bottles under a curly CFL, 1 or 2 sprays with 1/4 strength de stress and BAM! As soon as I see roots, into a 1 they go.
You will cook the root zone. The only time I ever struggled with clones was when I had a heat mat under them. 20 days and no roots. I removed the heating pad and touched up the clones I was attempting (reapplied clonex gel and made sure the stem was healthy looking...might have trimmed a bit off the stem) and within 10 days I had roots.Just curios Morglie, the no heat mat with clones is that because at that time the roots are helping keep the plant cool.
Gator clips work too. When I used the bag method (thanks @Lembatoast) I hated tying them. SO the clips I use on my pots to attach the zip tie to..well I use them as to keep the bag sealed. I just twist the bag top nice and tight and snap the gator clip on. Keeps the bag fully inflated and doesn't go flat. Very fast to get in and out of the bag.I use bread ties to close mine. I need to pick up a humidity dome cover. I use the bags because the only cover I have is a standard size for seedlings which is way too short for clones.Gator clips work too. I switched back to the humidity dome due to space issues. Takes up a lot of space to clone 4-8 cuts using the bag method as opposed to one humidity dome. If I was only doing one or two at a time, the bag method is very easy and fool proof.
You could try my water bottle humidity domes!? They don't take up a lot of space and are easy to check on. I like to put them in a small box so they don't tip over and even put a few in my tent pocket. Simply cut 80% around top of bottle, bam!
I had a little green tray and dome but it was much too short. I only use it on cups waiting for seeds to pop. For clones I use the taller dome. Works great.I need to pick up a humidity dome cover. Don't use heating pads unless you are trying to clone in 50 degree weather. I have since been 100% with cloning.

Some how I managed to save 1 of my clones, and I'm thankful for that. And I get another chance if it is a strain I want to keep. Started with 8, had 4 show roots and 1 survived. It wasn't till after the heating pad before it showed some promise.
How long do you let your roots get before you put them in dirt?
That does look pretty slick ween, plenty of height also, and I probably will only doing 2 at a time. Maybe 4 and keeping the best 2.You could try my water bottle humidity domes!? That is a good point, I plan to do 2 at a time so I will have to consider that. Do you change the water out at any point, to refresh it?Gator clips work too.
