Dusted Does Blue Cheese

Looking great! Do you find the blueberry grows slower than the rest? My blueberry from Crop King Seeds looks quite different, and grew much slower and flowered slower than the skunk and kush varieties I had going at the same time. I now have a 2nd tent just for the Bberry . Here's a picture of mine just before I moved them for comparison, the two in the front are 50 day old Blueberry clones and they have very different looking leaves and are also slower than the Skunk clone behind them.

I didn’t notice any difference in the Blueberry growth rate vs anything else. With hydroponics everything grows as fast as it can, given proper nutrients and lighting and ventilation. I generally aim for 1.5 meter high plants finishing 100 days after planting.

I didn’t notice any difference with Blueberry vs others. Hydroponics gives really fast growth rates with anything. I aim for 1.5 meter high plants (mostly indiga) finishing 100 days after planting. I have seen too much variability with Crop King seeds, so I have gone elsewhere to source seeds.

Thanks for the info, 100 days! Thats impressive! Your plants are looking great! I am in peat, feeding hydro nutes, but all parameters are equal and the Blueberry is always slower. Definetly could be genetics. However, its has really nice tasting and smelling purple buds with a very decent buzz, though not a great producer. A larger variety I am trying called Karolyn is a crazy fast growing plant, and I am even underfeeding it a bit. Newer pics in my journal. Its canopy covers 3' x 4' at 66 days, and it showed it's sex at 30 days so I was impressed. :ganjamon:

My entire house has the delicious aroma of flowering Cannabis and I'm still weeks away from harvesting. I just boosted the K P again and didn't add any extra N beyond that in the K P mix. They must dissolve the trace mineral concentrate in Nitric acid to solubilize, before adding to the K P. Plants are going through about 4 litres of water a day each, so I have to keep on top of the water chemistry daily. I finally started monitoring TDS. Contrary to my stupid assumption (see signature) I thought that TDS would would increase over the week between nutrient changes, due to my adding so much 280 ppm tap water. Lo and Behold, the TDS goes down as the plants gobble macronutrients over time. Oh well, if you don't learn new shit you may as well die.

Well I killed six seeds, total, in two different tries. I know how to do it properly, but I tried to shortcut, cuz, they are weed seeds man, and they should just grow. To germinate seeds one MUST:
-Submerge seeds for 12-18 hrs at 25 C
-Place seeds between paper towel on an inclined plane, with the base submerged in lots of water. The water will wick up to the seeds and provide the perfect wetness. Do not cover the wet paper towel. There must be air circulation.
-Place in an open area that is 25C (space heater), and perfectly dark, for three days. Make sure the water does not all evaporate. Brief looks (once a day) are OK but every time light hits the seeds the hormone that regulates germination gets destroyed and takes hours to re-build.
-This timeline is designed to provide 1 cm long tap roots that can be manipulated into my growing media (rocks)

I put on another 5 Blue Cheese three days ago and did it properly. I planted 5 seedling today. So now I'm running low on seeds (just 5 Eleven Roses left) and make the mistake of ordering with Canada Post delivery. They are on rotating strikes. Hopefully they are legislated back to work soon.

I finally tried adding a 3x diopter to my 150mm f2.8 macro lens. I like it. Very limited focal range and tripod mandatory. Should be able to see trichomes when it comes time.

Day 55 after flip. They don't look ready yet since there is still a lot of new flowering taking place, but they are getting close looking at the new pictures. In this batch the trichomes seem to be getting cloudy. I will start the flush tomorrow. The Blueberry is going to be a week behind it looks like. No pictures of it. The limit focal range of this lens setup makes it really hard to get close enough to the flower.

A few new pictures. I can hardly wait to try some. There are some amber trichomes so it's getting close to harvest time. I'm going to try a fermentation cure with an ounce or so of freshly cut bud since I bought the Sous Vide heater for that purpose. I am loving cooking with the Sous Vide. You can't overcook the meat and can leave it for hours at exactly the perfect temperature. Then char the outside with creme brûlée torch to get the flavour.

Day 63 since flip. They have been on low nutrient flush for the last week. No added N and 30% of recommended K/P. Definite deficiencies on the fans before I removed as many as I could. Still a few days before they are ready to harvest. I did take off a branch to try a few buds. They are presently drying and smell great.

Speaking of smelling great. I got a call this week from a glazier who wanted to replace my picture window sealed unit. The window manufacturer has been looking for someone to install it for months. It weighs over 300 lbs and took four guys to wrestle it in. First guys walks into my house, takes a sniff and goes, "wow that's stinky stuff". Lights hadn't even come on for the day. His parents grew when he was growing up. Thankfully I'm semi-legal. Four mature females, but 5 new seedlings.

My seed anxiety is now fixed. After killing six expensive seeds through stupidity and then germinating five more Blue Cheese, I was down to five Eleven Roses seeds, with a new downstairs cycle coming up. Jump on my seed supplier website and what do I see but GG#4 (up to 33% thc in some buds). It has always been out of stock when I have previously looked so what the hell. 25 seeds are cheaper to buy than 5 by 30%. Also got some THC Bomb plus the free seeds and they also sent 3 Afghan Kush (pure indiga).

IMG_0659.jpegIMG_0661.jpegIMG_0662.jpegIMG_0663.jpegIMG_0664.jpegIMG_0665.jpegIMG_0666.jpegIMG_0667.jpegIMG_0671.jpeg

I spent the last three days harvesting. The house absolutely reeks. I hung the larger colas and trimmed the rest into compost bags. I flip the plant mass daily to try and get an even dry in the paper bags. I will not mold this cure! Today was the blueberry, which smelled amazing, so tomorrow I will prepare a couple of cobs for a Malawi fermentation cure using the blueberry. If my hands aren’t too sticky I will try to get some shots of the cob preparation prior to the initial sweat at 40 C in the Sous Vide for 24 hours. I don’t want to go near my camera with resin on my hands. I should probably use latex gloves when trimming. I scraped the trimming scissors and smoked the resulting hash. That was a buzz.

No pictures of the cob preparation. I used cheese cloth to wrap about an ounce of the smaller blueberry buds each into two cobs. There wasn’t much sweat produced after the 40 C cook but I opened the bag and dried the cheese cloth with paper towel. Resealed the bag and it is sitting at 25 C in my germination area. I turn the bag daily in case there is any free moisture.

The upstairs Blue Cheese are growing as expected. I put the cages up since the plants were pushing fan leaves beyond the edges of the pots. Almost 30 days since planting. They still have a week to go before the flip.

I got the majority of the root mass removed from the downstairs grow media by flipping the pail over into another bucket. That left a thick mat of roots that I removed the stuck rocks from. I then inoculated with a Great White microbial suspension and have been circulating at 25 C while waiting for the GG #4 seeds to germinate. I briefly looked when adding water today and they should be ready to plant tomorrow.

Well the seeds must have dried out a bit too much. They produced a .5 cm root and froze. Thats the trouble with trying to keep them dark. I couldn't see that the water had mostly evaporated. Jeeze this hobby can be frustrating and expensive. More new seeds germinating.

I have put the hung buds in jars with 62% Boveda pacs to cure. They are tasty. Mostly blueberry not much cheese flavour. The high is more energetic than I expected. I'm getting lots done. Should be able to jar more of the smaller buds today. They took too long in paper bags this time so I will have to spread them out on paper next time.

The upstairs Blue Cheese were ignored too much. The reservoir got up to 25 C and I now have stem rot again. I thought sterilizing the system and putting in new media would get rid of that scourge. New nutrients and frozen water bottles added regularly now. With two systems running I am going to get tired of rotating the bottles, so I ordered a birthday/Christmas present for myself. A hydroponic chiller. That way I will only have one system to add ice to.

Upstairs at 30 days:

I got the water chiller yesterday. When I open the dry outer box I see the chiller box is wet. These chillers have a reputation for the occasional bad build in China. Hook it up in the upstairs room and no leaks. It must have been returned and repaired since it had factory strapping around the box. It is a bit of overkill for the small system (40 L capacity) but it works like a charm. It seems the best nutrient temperature for root development is 20 C and nutrient absorption at 23 C. I will move it downstairs tomorrow when the new seeds are ready to plant (if I don’t kill them again). It looks like I will be able to use the chiller “in line” with the existing plumbing. Right now I have a separate pump circulating the water through the chiller back to the reservoir.

Should have pics of the fermented cobs tomorrow since it will have been a week. Then six weeks of cure. The last harvest is all in jars curing now. It looks like about 8-10 oz

The second batch of gg seeds also seemed to freeze for some reason. This is getting really expensive but I have an empty growing room calling me so I need new seedlings. Put on a third batch of seeds two days ago but allowed the second batch to remain wet. Went to check things today after ignoring for two days and find the second batch had grown a lot. Planted those and will have to plant more in a day or two. Too bad I don’t have any soil to use. Everything is closed for the next few days so I guess I will have crowded downstairs pots for that grow. The several days freeze in germinating is very strange. I can’t figure out what is causing it so I guess I will have to be more patient with frozen seedlings. Upstairs is getting close to flip. Tomorrow will be five weeks so I will be able to move the chiller downstairs when I’m down to 12 hrs light upstairs. They say I should taste a piece of the fermented cob to compare to the cured product when done. I may give it a try tomorrow.

The cob is still too wet. It didn't taste too bad but the odour of the acids is still strong. I will wait for it to cure and dry before trying any more. Interesting high. Seemed more complete if that makes any sense. I will reserve judgment until I try it again before committing to more cobs on the next harvest.

Upstairs have taken off so they were flipped today. Stem rot fairly progressed on a couple but they are propped up pretty good so can't fall over. They should make it. March 1 harvest.

I moved the chiller downstairs, and got all of the seeds planted. It looks like I may end up with 10 seedlings in 5 pots. Waste of money. The stems of the seedlings are deep purple, which I have never seen before. It may be the genetics but I bet it is the 20 C nutrient solution which is pumping pretty good. I just wish chillers weren't $500 so I could buy another one for upstairs. Oh well it should be the last upstairs grow.

I will give you the full pics today

The upstairs plants grew 6-10 inches this week. No real flowering yet, just a bit pre-flowering. One plant has the crazy side branch growth that I saw last grow. A couple are turning into bushes and one is going to be top heavy. I will get some pictures in the next day or so.

Downstairs I am slowly weeding out the weaker seedlings leaving only one plant per bucket. I will probably pull the last couple of seedlings tomorrow when I boost the nutrient level to early growth levels. A couple of the original seeds made it but the others just rotted while staying green and not growing. The new batch of seeds all produced vigorous seedlings, but I don’t want more than one plant per pot so some had to go.

Since I don’t have full grown plants right now the humidity in my house is down to 27%, so I ordered a small humidifier to help out till the plants transpire enough water to get back up to 40%. I will have to get a central air humidifier when I get hardwood floors, since they require a fairly tight RH range.

As promised a few pictures. Upstairs (Blue Cheese) a week after flip

And the new crop (GG#4) downstairs at one week old. I did up the nutrient levels today since they appear to be well established. Down to one plant per pot. Nutrient temperatures set to 20 C to promote root growth. Side note: I bought new nutrients for the new grow since I was finally out of the old stuff. I went with General Hydroponics brand. I was going to get the two part ($100 per USG) but the nice grower at the hydroponic shop recommended against it. She said it plugged her system when she tried it, so I went with the three part system. No other add ons, which I consider a waste of money. The feed rates seem much more reasonable these days vs 20 yrs ago when they recommended waay too many nutes. I will go with their schedule this grow and see what happens. If things get way too green I may have to adjust.
