Lovely looking colas boss! They look really dense brother. Hey would you guys say some strains can be like all frost on the buds and not so much on the leaves?

Absolutely. My highest testing strain has very little on the leaves compared to the buds. That was my Killer A5 Haze, when you look at the bud pics the resin on the leaves won't get anybody's attention but when you look at the buds they are thickly coated. Carnival was another that wouldn't impress with resin on the leaves but the buds were thick.

Okay I ask because this Durban of mine has hardly any trichomes that are even visible to me on the leaves. Granted she’s in the back left corner of the tent and doesn’t get fondled as much as the ones up front.
Duggan had mentioned that he saw heavy leaning sativa traits in my plant. The strains you mentioned are heavy sativa if not landrace in the A5’s case yea?
Carnival was on my list of strains to grow out as SweetSue had helped a family member with depression using that strain I believe.

Is carnival a good strain for depression? I thought it would be too speedy. Need to do some more research on it, I have some beans but didn't consider it as a means to treat depression. The next grow may now Include carnival, who can ever decide :hmmmm:

Yes they are heavy sativa. Killer A5 is not a landrace but it's close. The Malawi used is a landrace but the A5 Haze is a hybrid. A lot of the thin leaved plants produce most their resin on the buds. It's the indicas and hybrids that have been bred for high resin content that cover the leaves. Some plants really produce a lot of resin at the end of flower. The Killer A5 Haze was like that for me. I wasn't impressed by the amount on the leaves but at harvest it was more pronounced and the buds were thickly coated.

Carnival genetics look a lot like Haze, 3 landrace sativas x indica. You will find Sativas can have a great mood elevating effect which helps with depression. It takes some work to find the right ones because not all sativas are created equally. Some can really wreak havoc on thought patterns and be a little un-nerving. My wife is one that doesn't do well on most sativas. The one's she likes tend to be really uplifting. She did ok on Carnival flower but she really liked eating about .2 grams of Carnival cob. Her favorite sativa is Thai Chi and she recently did ok on the Zamaldelica x Ethiopian cob. She can't handle the Zam x Eth flower though. The cob is very uplifting and friendly where the flower is more heart racing and makes her manic.

Looks awesome, Brother! :high-five:

How's it smell???
Thanks man...hows it smell......how bout very intensely organically sweet!! lmfao!:blunt:

Great post Neiko...thank you for that!:high-five:

Heya KB! Yeah I cant ever decide man, thats always tough! So many strains, but theres a balance of how many plants I actually want to care for at the same time and four seems the perfect number haha.

Carnival, from what I understand, is effective in treating depression. My limited research on the subject has shown that the terpene limonene is responsible for boosting mood and creating positive feelings. So any strain that is defined as citrus-like is a safe bet generally speaking.

Okay from a growing standpoint Ive grown some sativa leaning hybrids but most have been fairly resinous. Super Lemon Haze was a fantastic strain for depression for me. Ive got a 2:1 CBD to THC strain from Medical Marijuana Genetics that has Super Lemon Haze as one of the parents so that could be great.
Neiko, if I may be so bold, does your wife suffer from depression? Its always nice to share suggestions amongst those who suffer from the same ailments.
The cobs sound really nice but Im not sure if I am ready to try and learn that process quite yet. One thing I have done is make bubble hash and I do enjoy a spot of that every once in a while. Ive made it twice and the second time was actually a full plant fresh frozen harvest. If I were growing strictly for hash, it sounds like Id want to find the most resinous indica I could find if I want a large yield eh?
Cheers Neiko!

I’m going to add something in here. I’m also trying different approaches to managing/treating depression (for myself as well as some others). Killer - I find that with the sativas, the best anti-depressive effect is through ingestion in smaller doses. So that fits perfectly with what neiko says about his lovely other.

Another terpene heralded to treat depression is terpinolene (sp?) - it is the reason why Jack Herer gets prescribed for depression - it is high in terpinolene.

It’s my next experiment, to make some oil for during the day to see if it does for pain and depression together.

I think if you’re using a sativa for depression, that strain hunting can maybe take a bit of time like neiko says, cause everyone is different. It will also make a difference if it is “busy brain” driven depression, or if anxiety is in the picture as well, or if energising is what’s required. Smaller doses through ingestion can be more effective. I find it difficult to have small amounts when I’m toking and always go for the high :laughtwo:

Room looks tops Duggs! :thumb:

...and Krip... (@Mr. Krip) congrats on the ‘grow journlist’ gig! :thumb:

Interesting I didnt know that terpinolene was helpful with depression, thanks for that AG! I actually have some Jack seeds from Seedsman.

It’s a fascinating area and not very much is known about it at all. It’s possible that it’s actually the combination of certain terpenes that do things together. Then there’s the synergism in our bodies which creates different effects for everyone.

So something like Super Lemon Haze, that has good levels of both limonene and terpinolne, might be a magic bullet for someone. But for someone else with the “busy brain” type fo depression or anxiety, it may be wrong.

I got some JH too! - as freebies in a pack I received yesterday from Seedsman :thumb::high-five:

Fascinating! Yes the search continues for "my strain(s)." The reason I am growing Durban, is actually to see how it affects my anxiety and depression. Its not high in limonene but being a sativa, it could still be helpful. The Green Doctor strain I have is looking more and more like its gonna get the nod this summer.

Yes she suffers from depression, anxiety and is bi-polar. She does like Durban too, I forgot about that. Limonene strains agree with her but in all my testing, limonene mainly shows up in indicas and indica hybrids. Not that it's not in sativas it's just been in trace amounts. Super Lemon Haze is one of those that you either love it or hate it. I'd love to find a keeper cut of it but I doubt I'll find it on my own. Terpinolene is mainly found in sativas and is the main terp in Durban Poison. I don't think any one terpene is the key though. Like Amy said it's the combination and ratio of terpenes. I think of them like your favorite recipe. A little salt in a recipe can make or break the recipe but too much salt can ruin the whole dish. It's all a personal preference and everyone is different so you just go with what works. When I find one that works I'll test it and see what the terpene profile is to get a baseline "recipe". If I were to breed my selections would be based on terpene profiles not thc content.

Yea SLH has Skunk ( #2 I think) in its lineage so more indica possibilities there I guess.
I agree with the terpene hunt and it seems to me that terpene profiles are what we will eventually be growing for.
One area I hope to progress in is the full spectrum type of extractions like RSO or bio bombs or something.

What i wanna know is...where can you go in this world to learn more about our craft???? We have so many very knowledgeable growers around here...just an awesome source for great info and ...well, just 'stuff' . Thanks Neiko for spelling all that out for us . :bravo:
Apparently people will be paying to get this knowledge in college!
