Doctor Who's Grow

This summer I plan to try a experiment, I want to try to grow faster out door plants right! I have thought on this! thinking if one was to start out growing their plants in a single bucket and get the plants part way through veg then transfer them to the out door grow area and soil.

Now how would it be possible to take a plant! grown soilless/dwc and put it in soil outside? I had some thoughts on this, one way to it may be to make a small pit in the soil big enough to suspend the root system down in to the pit, take a lite potting soil mix, and mix that with water down in to the pit! a little at a time till the plant is supported by the mix or mud soup, the point would be, not to compact the roots to much, another way would be to add in just enough potting soil aound close to the roots and let the roots do their thing by growing out into the soil and add in soil as the roots connect them selves into the soil, this would take a few days maybe a week but sound workable.

I guess what I am getting at is you should be able to by pass a few month of outdoor slower growth by bringing the plants closer to flower, now you ask how do you put them in to 12/12 outside, no problem outdoor dark room home depot or build enclosure that can be moved into place.

Like I said just a thought and possible experiment for the summer can't hurt.

Any thoughts from the guy's

The only thing I know from my experience outdoors is they will show their sex on their own the first week in August. I don't know how this fits in with you idea to flower earlier outdoors, interesting thought!

yeah I here you! but that would be the reason behind the dark room enclosure that would be moved to cover the plants daily after 12hrs to force flower them, it's something to try on a small scale grow maybe 1 or 2 plants their hight would have to be controlled to fit an enclosure, I have a disign for a grow shed where the front and top roll or lift out to expose the plants to the Sun and close it down after 12 hrs of day light, it's just what part of the day you would begin the cycle, there are only a few ways to begin the cycle.

Start 12 in the late aftenoon covering the plants and uncover them once the Sun goes down that way there already uncovered in the morning! or cover them during the night and uncover them later in the morning to get the best part of the summer day, once you start 12/12 though here is no turning back.

Mean while the trainwreck! the la women and the roadrunner are doing good so far, I know this summer though I am going to have big problems with heat in a Deep Water Culture system other than a work around with chillers

The advice I am getting from other the local hydro shops an local growers out here in the Sunny state is to switch to ebb & flow during the summer that way you can maintain the water an nutrients temps in the main res tank, so it's time to save up to put that together may buy one or try a DIY a grower called greenisland's built a real nice DIY ebb & flow setup nd has it really going onge plants man!

Hay unless someone can tell me how to get around this with increasing the electrical bill with mutlible chillers or other manual ways could be a real bitch with mutlible bubble bucket you know.:surf:

What ya think?

Damn, lots of questions I don't know much about! LOL

It is fun thinking of the outdoor grow the way you're talking. I like to call that mental masturbation, I love it!

I'm anticipating heat problems here next summer too! Though I'm thinking along the lines of how I cool my house in the summer. I open the doors and windows at night when it's nice and cool, that usually gets the temps down to about 60 inside. Then during the day I leave everything closed up and by 5 pm it's generally no warmer than about 74 inside, even when it's up to 100 outside. So I'm thinking I'll run my lights in the middle of the night and pull in cool air from outside. Then shut everything down from say 8 am to 8pm. I really hope I don't need to buy an air conditioner, I just don't want to spend the money, but if I need to...

Yeah out here in SB Ca, it get's real hot during the summer can get up to 110 degrees and normally run's in the high 90' at night when the temp's hit that high, and running th AC all night isn't something I want to do, the wall AC I had in my 6' X 6' X 6' tent started out good then as the nights grow colder and the heat would come on the AC unit seem to be unable to compensate so that I will have to see also this summer.

So this summers going to be a bitch for me with hydroponics even my garage can get real worm by the end of summer as it is on the west side of my house with the kitchen in between an under the second storynd the Sun hit the front around 2 or 3 pm, last summer it hit 110 degrees for a few days or a week but runs in the high 90's consistently the outdoor plants stopped growing completely as they would start at about 85 to 90 degrees, it also created a problem with pests.

So the enclosure or green house I have planned is a fence dog run completely closed an cemented to the ground and is only a deterrent, but the temps here can be costly with out running lights and yes I would run the light out side the normal hours to reduce electrical costs.

But the ebb & flow looks to be the best way around water temps for me. cooling the room with lights is the next thing, I don't know guess I'll have to work it out when I get there.

A fellow Dr. Who fan? Count me in!!! Be nice to have a TARDIS for a grow room...fits in your closet but has enough room for hundreds of plants ;)

Been a Dr.Who fan since the 60's, love the new series big Si Fi fan here! but love learning about the real stuff also kinda brings the impossble to the possible.

Yes a TARDIS would be real handy wouldn't!

What do you have growing for your self now friend

Well here it is 17 days in the bucket I believe it is! The trainwreck on the left! is looking awesome isn't it, the roadrunner looks lite because I broke of 3 bottom branches when putting the plate under it. But it going okay.

Now the la women is slow to recouping! and has started to show it is making a come back finally! an the growth is picking up.

I guess it's wait and see how things turn out! as far as the roadrunner flowering it's on it's 17th day so after 20 days I'll be watching for it to be flowering as advertised. the trainwreck looks like going to be pretty full and as I understand the roadrunner budding is more to the main stem and few side branches, but this is the first time on this strain also!:smokin: but looking foreward to seeing this plants growth pattern.

Oh those bottom branches I broke off are now in clone phase so I'll see if that works out to my advantage!

Talk to me?

wow, they are growing fast. lookin great

Thank's C5 I was just thinking they are a bit slow on the grow and I may have done something wrong! but if I remember my first grow! one day they just took off and had massive growth, I hope for that here to, I know it doesn't help when the soup get's to worm and I have to keep working at keeping that in check not a problem there, and been working the ph an ppm battle wagon!

I one of the thing I have learned it's real important to keep the ppm and ph in a safe place, but more to the point in the "right" place for each of the plants growing phases! I see so many newbe's asking what's happening? when it's plain as day and a simple fix, I know I was there also and not out of the learning wood's yet either more to it than meets the eye.

well, the plants are growing outwords a lot with all those secondaries aldready. If you wanted them to shoot up, you could clip the bottom new secondaries or new stems and they would pop right up. I use this to even my plants out

Is that the very bottom secondaries, because 3 bottom branches on the roadrunner got knocked off so I'd be good on that.

Yes that is, and btw, if your plant is healthy in early growth, like yours, it never hurts the plant and can really help it. When the bottom secondaries are mature, they will most likely be covered by the canopy's leaves anyhow.. If you want, you can let em mature and use them as clones

Then I guess I've got it done in part. I saw the lack of bud size with my last plant! the white rhino bucket grow didn't work out so well by letting the secondaries grow! it took away from the main bud and the main branches, I'am checking things twice and as these plants mature I'll besure to make the adjustments needed, and hay your input is very much appreciated bro thank you.:bongrip:

exactly, if you dont have room or light or room for light, your secondaries can hold the main buds and bigger secondaries back

Checking the plants this morning, their growth is very apparent now! even the la women is picking up on it's growth and looks to be in the race now, LA has gained over an 1" from yesterday and may even catch up to the others.

Good to see the LA Women gained and inch over night. I got lucky and scored 4 LA Confidential seeds the other day. I'm interested in seeing how the Women comes out as it is in between Confidential and Martian Mean Green. Not sure if you checked em out but DNA DNA Genetics - DNAGenetics.com got some good info on there seeds. Talks about removing leaves to let more light in and some other tips.

I think a cool contest to have! would be one where we get all the Deep Water Culture/DWC members together! we all get the same strain seeds and start the seeds out on the same day once they've sprouted, and have a grow race and see who can get to the second week of flower first contest ends there! something like that, there's room for improvement maybe do it with just one plant each.

Thank you! and Cool thanks for the link I'll check it out, yeah LA was in a soilless mix to start with, and was transferred from that to a bubble bucket and is now over the shock of that and getting along with growing she'll catch up I think! an I hope?

again bro well done as for heat from the pump put some distilled water ice cubes in make it part of the daily routine roots love that little blast best of luck man
