Damn man. Doc u ever consider teaching upon retirement? If only we can get to the younger med students b4 some1 scares them about thinking of incorporating MMJ into their practice.
LOL!
I try to teach every day in practice...but I know what you mean.
I know a lot of docs...some of them prominent surgeons in my area. They enjoy cannabis. I would hazard a guess that most of the younger med students are already quite on board when it comes to medical cannabis. Many DC's and DO's are also very dialed in.
However.....there is a problem, because the pharmaceutical companies aren't part of the loop. They want their cut and they are closely watching our baby industry forming.
Just like in wine and beer, there will always be home brewers and tiny little family operations...growers, curers, hash specialists, blenders, the sky is the limit. However, we've got to look out that we don't get squashed by agribusiness, and regulated out of existence.
It could very well become legal to get "medical" cannabis, grown by some jackass corporation like Archer Daniels Midland, but still be illegal to grow your own. Think opium poppies. The drugs that are made from opium are legally prescribed, but you and I can't grow the poppies.
The most important things we can do to help ourselves are:
1.)Stay within the letter of the law
2.)behave responsibly in all aspects of our lives. If we project the image of "pothead" or "stoner" we'll have a very difficult time getting people to see our point of view.
3.)Grow the highest quality product possible, pesticide free.
I toy with ideas like a "growers alliance" or something along those lines, where people sign up and pledge to only grow safe, chemical free weed. Maybe I'll start one right here at 420magazine....just get people to sign up and promise to adhere to "Cannabis ethics." Let me toss the idea around a bit.....
Anyhow, I guess i can rant and rave on my own thread.....
I'm feeling much better now....gonna medicate and go out for sushi!
