Doc Bud's High Brix Q&A With Pictures

HAPPY HOLIDAYS ALL . I have a question. I hate bugs almost as much as mold/mildew and always treated new soil with certain bacteria at time of transplants which also contain petroleum and possibly small amounts of nutrient. Is a preventative maintenance of this sort compatable in Docs soil ? Can I mention the brand names here ? These are likely already present in Docs' mycos but I wish to increase for maximum effect.

I gots a curing question. I hung my Sour Diesel a week ago. Stems were mostly snappy on Sunday and I jarred everything on Monday. My buds are dry for sure, maybe even too dry. I have one fan leaf in each jar as I just harvested my blue dream 2 days ago. I work right next to a smoke shop full of Boveda packs. Anyone here use the Bovedas? My guy gave me a pack but it's 62% and I am unsure if that's too high. I am unsure if it would even rehydrate my stash.

The medium ones are good for up to an ounce and the large ones will do up to a pound. Still have to do the drying process but they work great. We had some that dried too long and a week in a jar with a boveda and it moistened right up and smells and flavors were there :thumb:

Wow! Gorgeous!

Gosh, I'm sorry I don't know where to post this. I have the space for a 14x14 grow room with up to 16-18' clearance (partitioned off warehouse). I wanted to know if Doc Bud's recommendation for 5 Gavitas in this space is based on having movers or not? Also, just to appear relevant (I've spent a few hours here reading already and have only hit the tip of the iceburg), would HB be effective with a scrog system? Sorry, I know this is in there somewhere. Please let me know where to post these types of things, if this is inappropriate.

Thanks

-Basil

I think 5 Gavitas would work in that space. Will you be on trays? You've got a high ceiling so you can put your plants at a level where you don't have to bend over all the time.

High Brix is an incredible soil growing method. It will work for SCROG no problem.

62 is perfect.

edit
1 bale = 3.8 cu/ft
3.8 cu/ft = 28.46 gallons
28.46 x 27% = 7.69 gals

So, 6 gals of perlite to a bale of BX will give roughly 21% PLUS whatever small amount is already in the BX

Spot on, thanks.

Edit - The 3.8 cu/ft is compressed so shouldn't it be 7.2 cu/ft in the calculations? It should be roughly 15 gallons or 2 cu/ft to be added? Now that just seems like a lot.

The bale expands to 3.8 cu/ft. :cheesygrinsmiley: You get 45-50 gallons after the EWC, etc.

How timely.... I'm getting ready to cut open a new bale and stopped to read directions again before starting. I thought it might be a good idea if I played for real this time and paid attention in class.

I'm going to mix this up as a full batch this time, hoping to avoid whatever mistake I made the first time through. Can anyone share how they store their full mix? I'm trying to determine what size totes work best and how many.

I really like a plastic garbage can. It's taller than it is wide, so there is a chimney effect. As long as the temps are good, the soil cooks very nicely. The footprint on the floor is the same size as using a few smaller totes stacked up on eachother and if you get a flat lid instead of a dome-shaped one, you can use the top of the can as a work surface.

We do all of our Leaf Washing with the plants sitting on top of a barrel of soil. Very handy! 360 degree access, etc.

When I mix up a full bale, I do 1/2 at a time in a kiddie pool. A good tarp would also work very well.

Just make sure your amendment is mixed up well, and divide it by weight.

For the sunshine #4 mix we have a couple options to choose from here locally. There is an aggregate mix with myco and another "complete" version. $10 a bale cheaper to get it locally so hoping this is the correct one. Has anyone used the sunshine mix by any chance? Thanks again as I know I'm asking a ton of questions today. :lot-o-toke:

Better to ask now then suffer later. No one keeps score anyway. :cheesygrinsmiley:

The sunshine ADVANCED mix has coco in it, which is not recommended by Doc.

Thanks Doc. I may grab a kiddie pool next spring. This time it'll have to be a tarp. If that works well I'll stick with it. Something tells me I'd be smarter to mix 1/2 at a time. :laughtwo: What size cans do you use? Will a bale fill two cans?
