DIY Vertical Tube Challenges The Aeroflo 96 - The Goal Is In The Yeild

Are you still using Blue Planet for your base nutes, or have you switched again? Just curious, as I found a happy peak at about 1400 using Bpn 3 part, (with oakton meter). I pushed much higher during my last round but punished myself for it by burning my chocolope slightly. Different grow style, etc, but I'm trying to learn from your experience too, as I know how hard you've worked to continuously dial everything in.

This will be a fun journal to follow like your others - (already is). Thanks for the feedback --

Too be honest, I used gh mostly because of price and accesability. I do use the bpn 3part and dynagrow. I like the dynagrow for veg because its a one part which is super easy to use but for flowering it gets too pricy. I have used an, earthjuice and 2 others and results are pretty much the same. A good quality nute is a good nute so price and access are my primary factors. Every time I go up to 1400ppm I get burned lol. I can only go that high with using additives like calmag or epsom salts and never see a big difference. Epsom salts suck, just a waste of raw material if your using high quality nutes. Epsom salts is magnesium sulfate in the raw, good nutes are refined and derived from magnesium sulfate so use the salts for your feet and your lawn. Calmag, if you do a waterchange with good nutes every 7 to 10 days you are wasting your money if your using calmag. 1300ppm works well for me and plant asperation or water intake slowly raises ppm to 1350 or 1375 before I dilute with water. With the bpn I like setting the 3part at 1200 to 1250 and add the blue booster til I achieve 1300. If I add too much water during dilution in the middle of the week I adjust with the booster only. This is the easiest way for me to use booster like the bpn blue, bloombastic and others that effect ppm count. I stay away from organics, they just don't work well with hydro and makes your ec meter worthless. Organics work best with drain to waste systems and soil or soiless mediums. Nutes and boosters are hyped up like gnc muscle crap for people working out. A good diet and workout builds muscle, stuff in the bottle is hype in the bottle. Americans like hype, does nike make you run faster than addidas? My best gardening is when I make very little mistakes and don't get lazy with the work, my worst gardening is when I get lazy or push the nutes to 1400 or more. The hype in a bottle can only help in very small percentages if at all and when abused it only hurt the grow. I don't promote any brand unless they give me free stuff or a discount. BPN did give me free stuff sort of but I won it a number of times lol. I can say this, bpn is a good nute.

Very well said and spot on Mr Smith!

For me though, I've found about half the strains I've grown need cal/mag additive, but I'm using strictly RO water at essentially 0ppm as a base. I'm sure mixed with tap would negate ever needing it, especially in DWC system. I've gone with none, 5ml per gallon, and 2.5 ml per gallon in progressive runs with my system and RO. Surprisingly to me, 5ml was only run with no cal or mag def. for me. I dunno, different strains, water, systems, plant size, my own grower error... all play a role but that's my limited experience so far.

BPN are great nutes - but differences amongst good nutes affect on yield is minuscule compared to wattage and environment - at least that's my take on it. Having said that, I'll try like hell to support Corey cuz they ARE top notch, reasonably priced, with unmatched support.

I won't put organics in any of my hydro (except drain to waste coco coir) either - too much sludge and mess and unhappy hydro plants.

I like your idea for adding bloom booster only when topping off water. Great tip! :thumb:

My water from tap is good enough that I just age it in a 55gal container. I used rodi water, got too expensive at 3 to 1 ratio and I saw no real difference. Guess I got lucky in that department lol.

4.5foot by 10.5ft of bud thats good at least 2 foot down. They got taller than I wanted because I put my partner in charge of the initial pruning. When I stripped the ladies it was on the late side and the second pruning wasn't done because the first pruning was so late. Looks like alot of hashmaking popcorn at the very bottom. I think the numbers will still be good.

Hello, Mr Smith! Sorry I'm a little late to the party, but I'm here now... I've been waiting to see the Big vert run again, glad to see it running. Nice looking improvements, watering each site. Prolly better than running top-through to bottom with all the overflowing. Looking good so far! I'm so excited to see this one again.

Hello Mr. Smith ! :high-five:

You were right I was in the wrong grow. Once again...all I can say is "Oh! My God!".:bravo:

This is something I have never seen before...and you built it yourself!

You said you are quiting after this and going to work for someone else. Congratulations if your are going to be paid more than you make from this one! Must be quite a place. Don't be a stranger..drop in and at least say "Hello"
to us all.

Brother I hope this one exceeds your expectations. :peace:

Awesome grow set up. I have never seen anything like it since Weeds!! I am glad you posted your grow on OMMs site. I want to be subbed to!!

Dammm..now thats one hell of a set-up..you gave an idea about how much cost to build..whats the cost to operate ??..i can't wait to see the yield...since i grow for personal use..the yield probably would set me up for life..ever smoke bud thats been curing for 20 years ??..i gotta see the end of this..:goodjob: on the DIY..fantastic brain work to put this together:bravo:

Thanks for the rep, likes and good vibes.
Miwa, not sure what your asking but its over a 100 bucks on nutes per grow per machine. Bulbs are 149 each and good for 3 grows. Carbon filters are 270 each and good for a year. Electric during summer is 500 a month. Winter I use more light power so its close to the same. The aeroflo room has a few thousand in equipment and the vert has under 2k invested. I don't know the whole breakdown, bought equipment little at a time year by year. This hobby just slowly exploded and I am not very good as a accountant. I can't even spel it correctly lol but its not what you would do as your first grow operation or even second. I have harvested 7 times already this year so you can say that my turnover rate is above average.

Thanks Mr. Smith, you've helped me in many ways. Maybe just consider no smoking as a trial and lowering your tolerance? :) I hope your new job is great! I know you'll do awesome in any field. Have you ever noticed any negative effects with your portable a/c putting it inline with your vent fan?
Have a great Labor Day.

totally amazing set up mate, not sure id want to set it up all in one go, but i can see over time it would pay off as you could start stocking up on all is needed and get a bit when you can, it would be a great set up for anyone, what would you say you average per plant

Not a clue. Whats 85 or 96 divide by 2 pounds or more? Does it really matter? This type of growing can give 22 plus pounds a year depending on how many turnovers or harvest per year. Those numbers are nothing compared to a caregiver or a large grow op. The difference is the amount of power I use to make those numbers. My friend that owns a caregiver facility runs 15 1000watt lights and does 30plus pounds a harvest 3 times a year. One run of his squashes my numbers but he has 60 grand in equipment and a electric bill of a medium to large business. I'm flowering in 2 small rooms and my electric is just above average for a single family home. I tread close or even above 1 gram per watt and I am not a exceptional grower but average with a number of people in these forums when I grow the same way they do. There are other ways to achieve 1 gram per watt but this way is the the way I do it.

This is like foot ball. The more turnovers via harvest the more you win. If I can achieve perfect turnovers thats a 2pnd plus harvest a month or 24 pnd plus a year. Still nothing compared to a large grow op.

When I have time I will show you some of a large grow op without the plants. When I went to visit my friend that runs the caregiver facility I took picks of his room and his room is the size of a house. Should be a nice treat.
Laborday is the day I make clones for the next a96 grow and it should give you a ideal of the small timewindows I work with when I harvest. I'll lay out the the generic schedule to show the timings of when things have to be done but I'm tired, cranky and busy. Its day 12 no smoking herb for me and a plumbing issue was just taken care of. I hate old houses, always need to repair something.
