Haven’t posted in awhile so here is where we’re at. NL1 got progressively worse so we after some consideration we flushed and it’s now clipped and drying out still on the stalk. I’m not sure why but it seemed to go fast at the end. Early this plant had a rough patch but powered through and it surpassed NL2. Something odd about how it smells is bothersome as well. Dry almost dusty fresh cut grass. Not really a strong bud odor anymore.

When we clipped and flushed it is when I first noticed it. These are some pics of the plant before being clipped and flushed. We used a finisher and liquid w8 with the flush and it packed on more crystals overnight. I feel like we have jumped the gun a bit but it looked so bad....thoughts?

Lay it on if I messed up, I’d rather learn from it now then repeat a mistake. If it looks fine then why the odd smell?

Congratulations on your first harvest! :goodjob:

That grassy/hay smell is pretty typical during drying. After it’s dry enough, put the buds in glass jars to cure. Burp every day or use humidity packs. After about 5-6 weeks, it will be much different. And much better.

From the pics, the nute burn definitely progressed pretty fast over that last 10 days. Still quite a bit of bud there. Might have cost you a bit of weight harvesting earlier, and the effect will probably be a bit more heady than if you would have let them go a little longer. For a first effort, not bad, and if you learned something, it's never a failure. The smell may improve as it cured, it's still pretty fresh. The Northerners I've grown were fairly neutral to slight pine scent.

If you're gonna stick with the AN products for your next grow, I'd cut the recommended (by the app) amounts in half, as Pennywise suggested. I think you got burned, literally and figuratively, by a build up from too hot of a mix. If you're interested in trying something else, I've got a pretty simple schedule using Dyna Gro products (I also grow in Pro Mix).

Looking great! I will suggest that it is not a N deficiency at this point, it looks more like magnesium to me or just natural fade at the end. How long do you have to go?

Today is day 83 so not much longer. In the past few days it’s been packing on weight for sure.

I have been using Cal-Mag along with my base nutrients so when the nutrients where halved that’s a lot less magnesium. You could be very right. I bumped up everything by 25% last night so hopefully it goes away. We are nearing the end though so I’m not too worried. The plant is looking quite strong.

NL2 can’t be far off. Tips starting to burn up and few leaves are fading. More trichomes are starting to appear and buds are getting very thick.

What do you all use as the best indicator for harvest? Thrichomes? Pistils? Leaf degradation?

Right now I’m trying to go by the trichomes that I can zoom in on but it’s hard to tell.

Thoughts?

I go by trichomes and shoot for cloudy with 10-20% amber. Some strains just seem to never get that way and have a mix of clear, cloudy, and Amber, but basically when I see the percentage of amber in the range I'm looking for, I harvest. They are getting nice and chunky for you. Should be a good harvest.

NL1 has been smoked.

Rather fulfilling feeling to smoke your first grow....

Not a ton of bud by most growers standards but it’s boat loads for me!

@Mosspb and I ripped on this stuff tonight and have come to a general consensus. Smell wise the an overall scent is smoothe with hints on dry seaweed. Hard to describe in an appealing way but it’s not a bad smell. The closer you get the scent is of a light ground pepper takes over.

To smoke it was very enjoyable. Not incredibly thick or overpowering. No heavy hacking cough or any cough at all for that matter. Light and smooth but at the same time just flavorful enough to be incredibly satisfying.

The high is rather uplifting but Just enough to prevent a full on vegetable state of couch lock. A clean and relaxing high.
