Dick23rk's Fresh Start: Mantis Nutrients Featuring MedicGrow's New Spectrum X+ 880w Light Panel

@dick23rk
I don’t know why! But, something doesn’t seem quite right..
Are you guys all sitting in an office together or something?
sometimes the vernacular changes a bit when chatting with members. Started to wonder if it’s a bit of marketing magic goin on..
Draw em in with the purples an other pleasant hues. Sweet talk us a bit. Then bam.. Wack em with the full sell. An I’ll be honest, I couldn’t give a s**** really ( a little disappointed maybe)
Thought early doors that I don’t mind buying a few bits here an there if it could help me along the way to producing some fine ass bud.
Unfortunately the magic erb is not so legal here. Which I’d imagine, pretty much makes me a liability to be in any comps or promotions.:)
I’m real happy to plod along keep growing my erb an chattering away with you good folks if ok?
peace an buds

I have to be honest, I'm not quite sure what you mean by this. I could just be stoned too lol
Offices and marketing magic? Not here. This is just a sponsor I reached out too.
Just genuinely curious what doesn't seem right my friend?

Lol after Dick said he might be high , I was thinking you might be getting a little paranoid. No worries though it happens when smoking the green some times.
:). Hey @Reave
Hope your well.. yeah , too much time on my hands, a fair bit of the erb consumed.. letting my mind a wander. Can go either way:)

Too much pot here I think, got on a para.
No worries my friend. :)
Lol OK, I wasn't sure what to take in from that was all.

Well there's no doubt I was high, or too high for that matter. I'm about to roll another and sip on my whiskey :slide:

I know what it's like having time on your hands, when I do I'm usually on here or researching something, or emailing companies about their products.

Just so happens I ended up with a sponsor from my free time, I never would have thought I'd get sponsored for something when I was here a few years ago. And I really need to start repping our forum sponsors anyway :cheesygrinsmiley:

Ooooh baby!! Root success!!
I'm kind of blown away I haven't killed these 2 yet haha but we now have roots showing out the bottom of these massive net pots on both plants. I'm excited, I should start seeing some quick growth right?

I didn't have my phone with me to snap a picture while I was in there as it was just a quick check on things, will get some next time I check. But, bucket #1 that first started showing a root, now has 3 or 4 inch root hanging down into the res! Bucket #2 has about a 1 inch root poking out now. So happy, had to share, thanks all.

**OK I typed all that this morning and forgot to hit post reply... what haha**

So I got a couple pics a few minutes ago while I was down there checking on things, I'll drop them below. I didn't do any res checks today, I'll do that tomorrow night when I do a full update. Otherwise we have 1 root touching the water now and another not far behind, happy as can be.

The potted plants are looking happy tonight under the MH light. Couple of the skunks are pulling up their stakes from being bent over, I'll double up tomorrow.
The sbc's are working on their nodal growth finally after topping, seeing progress. Potted plants will likely get a full dosing tomorrow to get that medium saturated.

That's it for tonight, back again tomorrow after work.

Hey @dick23rk
My apologies sir
Just looking back over your grow history. Jeez , you’ve come a long way matey.
Not a problem. You must have been looking at some of my older journals? Starting out in a 4x4 home made tent? Lol

Hey, Dick!

I had fallen back a few pages and had to catch up. However, catching up was easy because of the way you journal! Easy to read, lots of pics and, most importantly, informative. You do an exceptional job of explaining what you're doing and how you're doing it. This would be a great thread for brand new growers to learn from. :Rasta:

Congrats on scoring the @MedicGrow light. They've made a smart decision picking you. They probably saw what you're producing in that grow "arena" you have and said, "That's our man!" I can't way to see it performs for you.

I started out growing DWC only and it was a blast, albeit a labor-intensive one. I have since switched to soil and in doing so learned that DWC plants get really big, really fast once those roots hit the water! At first I was disappointed with my soil output, thinking they were growing too slowly and were smallish. But further reading about other DWC grows led me to conclude that the DWC grow method nearly always leads to huge plants if pulled off successfully. So have fun with the DWC, you've certainly got the space needed for them to flourish!

I'll probably fall behind in your journal again. I rather like catching up by 2-3 pages. Seems more fluid that way and makes it easier for me to understand what's going on.

Happy Growing!

BTW, thanks for your recent help with my wrinkled clones! :green_heart:

Hey GDB!

Thanks for the compliments, I've always been a little bit of a stickler on how I do my journals, more so the updates. I try to highlight them a little with the bigger bold letters, makes them easier to notice. I try to keep things neat if I can.

Yes I'm very excited about the sponsorship, never would have thought it would happen to me. I'm definitely going to put that panel to the test, 10 potted in 5gallon by the end along with the 2 buckets, it will have a good footprint to take care of for me.

I'm really digging the dwc so far, mind you I haven't had to do anything for the first week, at all. Just been checking the ph and tds to ensure the nutrients are buffering as they're supposed to. Another week maybe before first top up now that the plants are showing roots. I'm excited to see what happens in the next week or 2, I'll be sure to flip them early. I don't want them getting out of control compared to the others.

You can pop by and catch up whenever is best for you my friend, I don't mind. I enjoy that you're here none the less. Take care!
I’m still in a home made tent:) moved up in the world from my 4x4. Cut 2 up to fit the apex of the roof. It’s now a 9x4
No issues with that. We all work with what we have at the time and upgrade when we can. Everything I've done here has been over 5 or 6 years bit by bit and changed things around a few times. All that matters is that we are advancing and producing quality buds for ourselves. Never matters how we do it. Thanks for stopping by again my friend

Hey man I'm Jon and I just caught up on your journal. Great space and setup you got. I'm along for the ride. Real curious about those nutes. The simplicity you describe is very attractive to me. Good luck!

Welcome Jon! :welcome: thanks for stopping by.
Grab a seat anywhere you like, the show should be getting good soon. Watch out for some of us, we get a little silly sometimes lol

These nutes really are simple and I'm quite impressed so far. The real test will be once we flip to flower. So far they are holding up in the dwc as well.

If you have any questions, comments or senseless babbling to ramble off then be sure to go right ahead and ask or do so.

**Update Time**

Hey folks, I hope everyone had a good weekend! Going to get an update done tonight, I should be off work tomorrow and be able to finish getting caught up on everything around here. Seems as soon as I think I'm getting ahead on journals and other threads, there's an influx of more, it's a good thing.

I'll take this time to mention that there's only 2 days left for voting in the monthly 420mag contests!! Get out there, do your duties and vote! There's a ton of wonderful entries and members to vote for, hard decisions as always.

So we are still boogying along. I just did another floor set of pictures this time. Next update I'll get them back on that photo table, I got it dirty while dealing with the skunks and their wrath, we will talk about that. Only other things I did in here tonight was check ph and tds, pick a couple things up, and sweet talked the ladies. Another day or 2 til another feeding, waiting for the potted plants to actually get dry before their good soaking. Lets have a look in the garden!

Skunk #1 - Day 35
These ladies are flexing their muscles already after being pinned down. I came home today to a couple of the top pulling stakes up so I knew it was time to double up on the first stake with a 'U' shaped stake, then pinned down the newer growth as well since they have kept on growing quickly. They were a little unruly but we got them in place for now after working the branches softly before putting them in place. Bottom branches... I am now undecided on this, I want to leave them but another part of me says clone them. If I clone these plants, that's 8. If I also do the banana cookies that way, that's another 12 haha. Decisions... I'll think on it some more.

Sundae Banana Cookies - Day 27
They're on the move I swear, just doesn't look like it from the birds eye view. Top nodal growth is starting to shoot out some, bottom growth seems to already be catching up on most. Not much to report here, they are loving life and digging the transplant and light source, the first day or 2 was iffy. Maybe more action here by the next update.

Big Bang - Day 18
I'm really loving the speed on these roots! There are even more starting to poke out now, and being able to watch them grow down to the res every couple days is amazing. Soon it's only going to be a quick peek inside to see the water levels, eventually I wont be able to take a picture unless the wife helps me. 1 root is fully submerged on bucket #1 and there is 2 others that I can see starting to work their way out. Bucket #2's first root is starting to get close to the res and there's another poking out here as well. Loving it. Again, just tested levels here tonight and snapped pics.

Ph/TDS/ Temp(c)
Bucket #1 - 5.6 / 560 / 19.0
Bucket #2 - 5.65 / 570 / 18.4

Not too sure why the ppm is rising again, unless I'm getting a faulty reading on my pen. In one spot I was getting just under 500 but then another got the solid 560.. Should I maybe cut off the air to the bucket when I test? I could try that.

That's it here for tonight. Going to relax for a little while longer and roll a big fatty. Will do some more reading around the forums. Take care everyone and keep it green out there! :green_heart:

Awesome update. Great pics. Healthy plants. I noticed since your last post that your plants have lost that yellowish ring you had going on the edges of the leaves. All green now. Sweet.

Thanks Jon!
I think that's just my camera doing that, I use a Samsung s20 ultra, takes great pictures but it seems to be funny around the edges sometimes. They never seem to look the same to the naked eye as the picture.
Hey Dick, gonna grab a seat
Hey dusty! Glad to have ya. Hopefully the excitement around here will pick back up soon lol

Looking sweet, Dick!

I know you referenced it before, but please save me the search.

What size and type of wire are you using to do your training?

I'm not completely sure on the size, I'd have to find my wire strippers to gauge it, but I'd guess like an 18-20 gauge wire.

It's actually called garden wire though, can find it at Walmart and dollar stores here in Canada for right cheap in the gardening sections.

They also sell thicker and thinner types, don't use the thin twist tie like stuff, it could cut into the plant. The thicker soft wire is ok as well just not as ridged.
