Dick23rk's Fresh Start: Mantis Nutrients Featuring MedicGrow's New Spectrum X+ 880w Light Panel

I just find it odd it would be the same the whole way through. But who knows.
It's supposed to maintain the proper ph range with the buffers and at 5ml/L it's about 500ppm. I fed it to fresh popped seedlings with no issues, and they say it's enough to get you through to harvest. I'm sure it can be upped if needed though for hungry plants

I’m with Reave on that one. 500ppm all the way through to harvest sounds like a starvation diet. I start seedlings higher than 500ppm. And in full flower they may be using 1200ppm under ideal growing conditions.

Thanks Reave, a bit pricey yes but they compare well to a lot of the other brands out there that have similar ratings. And if a person wanted a second one, you could buy the Spectrum Y which is a little cheaper, it doesn't have the controller and runs off the X.
This Spectrum X+ model runs $1099USD on their website right now. They also have an older model called the Fold-8 with very good numbers as well for $659USD. There's a great review on that panel that can be found via a google search.

Thanks Jon, yes they are a sponsor here. They have sponsored me and sent me this light to review and test out on a garden grow here at 420mag.
I'm not sure which light you have, I'd have to stop over to your journal at some point. But yes, I'd imagine just about any panel similar to these would be crazy powerful.

The UV and IR bars are what intrigued me due to the option to turn them off and on as I want or need. Also the fact there is a "RED" button you can turn on for extra red during flower. What really got me was the amount of options it gives you for spectrum customizability... dam that seemed like a big word haha

I didn't grab a clear picture with every option on and turned up 100% yet but will try to get one later, with shades on of course. :nerd-with-glasses:

Thank you Rexer! I know there's a few other small details I had left out after posting it, but we can get to that stuff later and will be outline in the full end review as well, that one will take some time to make.

It's definitely an option that would sell me on a light panel, lots of flexibility here to adjust the light to your needs.
Brill that mate. As ever.
Prob about time you dragged yourself into this century with the lighting set up:)

See I thought the same thing when I first looked at it, but had to try it for the simplicity. Also the fact that it is Health Canada and CFIA approved (Canadian food inspection agency) This stuff is being used in licensed production operations. Not that the majority government pot is all that good, figured I could do better with it.

On another note, I do have the full general hydroponics flora series lineup. If things go really far south I can switch my dwc over to these nutes, but wanted to try and see these mantis nutes through if I could.

But HID lights were always the best.. at least til these style panels started coming out lol
Hey matey... I’m hoping that mantis juice is the bolox..and we don’t need wands to get the best out of it. £85a ltr. It should pour itself out the bottle.
:)
It should pour itself, right after you tip the bottle :laughtwo:

Well im slowly attempting to raise the humidity again. I grabbed that Vicks warm vaporizer, got it going, and I set a big tray of hot water by one of my room intakes. I turned the exhaust fan all the way down so it's just pulling enough over the water tray. I'll even go as far as sliding closed a couple of the other intake vents, they are just like normal floor vent tops.

Still have the droopy dwc plants. Res change obviously didn't solve this problem. I'm stuck between the new light and the low ass humidity. I even turned the light back down a little to about 40% just in case. Eventually I'll say the heck with it and crank it up lol. They are both still growing and have good roots, just not happy ATM.

I want to build a fogger unit in a tote, but I just don't have the funds for those parts right now. House of hydro has the kits and all parts needed, eventually I'll get there.

Hey Dick,

I believe the plants are still just adjusting to the new spectrum. In a bit of shock.... Great to see the roots pushing deeper into the pail. Best of luck on the humidity, that would help for sure!

MANTIS works differently than most nutrient programs. The buffer itself is inert so the plant is not able to absorb it. This allows the plant access to our solution at all times.

Think of MANTIS like a synthetic form of aquaponics. Your pH range is right on the money :) Those plants will come back around. Any instructions for the height and intensity from the new light? I know it seems bright but how far is it throwing the photons?
Thanks Mike, that's what I'm starting to think. The light company provides ppfd charts at different hanging heights. I have the light turned down low right now as well to about 40%. It runs at 30-100%. The control screen shows a ppf of 747 at 37% on the dimmer right now. Using a lux meter app on my phone I'm sitting around 10-11000 lux in the middle at the canopy. In reality I need to turn it up, but didn't want to harm the plants. Im hanging about 22" above the canopy

The main thing I was trying to accomplish with raising the ph by about .2 was to allow more calcium uptake. I've been adding roughly 120-150ppm of calimagic to the water before nutes and the 1 plant still has the deficiency creeping up.

Oh yeah totally the light could be too strong. I lower my led power until they pray all day.
That's the funny thing though, all the potted plants are happy and pointing up. No drooping. There was yesterday due to needing a feed, then stripping them and topping, but they all look great this morning. Just the dwc is droopy lol I'm sure it will come out of it eventually. We will rule out any root issues once my UC roots arrives to keep things clean.

Hey dick,

I just remembered a post from a different journal that had a great trick for raising the humidity around the plants instead of the whole space.

Post in thread 'Mars-Hydro DWC 1 Plant 4x4 Scrog' Mars-Hydro DWC 1 Plant 4x4 Scrog

Hope it helps, but either way I think they'll pull out of it. They look great to me.

Hey Rexer, thanks for that link. I could see me doing that around the 2 dwc but not sure how much it will help the potted plants being farther away. starting out at 20-30% is rough.

I just went down and shut my exhaust off, closed the intake vents and added a couple fans to keep air moving around lots. Got the vicks vaporizer still going but it's not doing much. Will see what it gets to over the next few hours with that being done, then I may even try adding a few wet towels with a tray to wick from. Willing to try anything until I can afford an actual fogger.

Oh I get it, I've fought low humidity before. I took a towel, and dumped it into a long shallow pan with a fan over it on high pointed towards the plants.

But I was thinking more along the lines of the rags/towels around the DWC allowing you to place the vicks vaporizer closer to the potted plants?
Sorry if that's a no go suggestion :bongrip:

It may be an option, we will see what happens with the exhaust off. Had to go to work for a bit.

You guys remember how nice and sunny it was here in Southern Saskatchewan? Me posting pictures outside in shorts.. well this is what we've had since yesterday afternoon. Will be the same tomorrow with some more wet snow. There's that moisture we all wanted around here. Fire ban got lifted too lol
@Bud love

Your DWC plants are the same strain and height as the others?
No, the dwc plants are Big Bang. The potted plants are skunk and sundae banana cookies. But they are all relatively the same height due to LST and all 3 strains are different ages. Dwc being the youngest, skunks the oldest

Dwc still looking down, I thought maybe it was coming back today but I guess not. The node growth is still pushing out, new growth each day, slowly.

I have managed to get up to 30% humidity but that seems to be the max with exhaust off and not pulling in any warm air. That puts my Temps down a few degrees, 22 to 19, which actually is a little better according to the VPD chart. But still not where I'd like it. I don't think the vicks vaporizer works properly, I remember it giving off a lot more steam and going through water faster. It's old, time to replace it sometime.
