Dennise - No Longer The Newest Of Newbies - Not Growing In MG - Perpetual

Ya know it would really be nice if I would remember to put the cans out... I bought 2 garbage cans just for this purpose and not even one time have I remembered to do it... Now mind you I've only had them for a year and a half...:yikes: so it's totally understandable that in that short of amount of time I have not gotten it done yet... I think I am going to actually get off my dead butt right now and set them out... I did remember to purchase those 8 gallons of purified water from the grocery...:thedoubletake: Well now that I can see blue skies of course now would be the appropriate time....:)...:circle-of-love:

It just passed through here. Nice boomers. And I have all my rainwater buckets full to the hilt. :)

Canna - I assume you mean that you collect rainwater for your girls because it's better for them than tap. Any opinions on sump pump water? Seems to me like it would be closely related to rainwater. I have a very active sump pump which is why I ask.

I don't really know Jimmie but I bet cha could find a test kit and test the water for nasties then check the pH... I am pretty sure it would beat the water here... I won't even give it to my dogs... they drink bottled water and that really isn't because I'm Liza from Green Acres... it's cause the water here really is that bad...:yikes:...Your probably to young to get the reference but it's not because I'm a fancy lady by any means....:geek:....:circle-of-love:

Oh Green Acres.... That's the place to be! But farm living is the life for me!!

I was born and raised in the big city and I have been referred to on here as Liza before because I live soooo in the country now.... Can't say I don't miss the convenience of things sometimes... and I will always like shiney blingy things..... There's no running to the McD's or any other fast food for that matter... however looking out my window every morning into God's country... makes them all minor inconveniences....:high-five:....:circle-of-love:

Hi JimmieJ,

I would get a sample and have it tested. My immediate concerns with sump/basement water are:

Potential high alkalinity caused by lime leached from concrete footings, floor.

Pesticides and herbicides (and other inorganics/petrochem) leached from outside lawns/beds etc.

A full on test from National Labs costs $211 and includes tests for just about everything. PPM/TDS, PH, heavy metals, various inorganic compounds and various 'cides.

National Testing Laboratories: Watercheck with Pesticide Option

Those with wells should be doing this type of test every 5 years or so, with more basic yearly tests. I'm ordering one on Monday since I have not properly tested my well yet. :yikes: Hopefully I'm not leading myself like Flint, MI.

They also have cheaper and more specific tests for various water scenarios...well, city tap etc. But starting with a complete unknown I would want a complete test.

Morning Liza!

I remembered to set out some tubs and a trashcan and caught about 150 gallons :thumb:

Then I took 3 dry plants in #1 fabrics and soaked them. I mean totally and completely saturated, no air bubbles coming up after several minutes of being submerged.

Then I pulled them out to drain. This new garden mix I bought drains so well that I CAN NOT over water. Not even sensitive Indicas show over water stress.

I can't help but wonder if that means keeping the more thirsty hybrids happy during summer is going to be a problem?

Oops, rambling. Have a lovely day. Should be sunny and mid 60's.

Jimmie,

Yes I collect rainwater for god's gift from the clouds untainted.

I did look into using my sump pump water when I first started growing because the sump pump was so close to the grow room. However....during a freak monstrous rainstorm here that year my sump pump got overworked and failed because of a split in the cement just below a basement window well that filled with water. There was so much water the ground could not keep up, hence the pressure and split. When I drug that sump pump up to replace it, that was the grimiest/nastiest black goo junk I have ever seen. I didn't have to get the sump pump water tested, I knew that wasn't something I wanted for my plants.
Someone mentioned concrete and others contaminants, this is all something to think about. Where is that rainwater traveling from to get to the sump pump?

Hope that helps.

Well as normal my Twilight 864w led panel that was supposed to be delivered today is stuck in customs... I don't know what it is about me and Twilight but I'm thinking the karma Gods are simply trying to tell me something and apparently they are going to have to slap me for me to figure out what it is... Nuggs got his 2 days ago...:yikes: Well I guess it's not like I'm sitting here worried about not having enough light to finish my grows but I sure did want to start the Pineapple Chunk and Blue Cheese flowering under it... to bad so sad...:)....:circle-of-love:
