Okay Dennise, PJ and crew.. I still haven't gotten around to organizing those likes that I've given so far into notes.
That'll happen this week.
There are a couple things that confuse me atm
When you say:
1 5.0 cu ft bale Klasmann Deilmann K-1 with 15 % perlite by volume
1 3.5 cu ft bale of Sunshine #4 (yellow label)
The compressed bales break down into roughly double the volume so there was ~ 17 cubic feet of base material.
3.0 cu ft Fox Farms Ocean Forest
3.0 cu ft Chunky Perlite
2.5 cu ft Roots premium worm castings
5.0 Gallons Yum-Yum Mix
2.0 qts Crab Meal
4 # Cascade Minerals Basalt
2.5 # Glacial Rock Powder
2.5 # Soft Rock Phosphate
1.0 # Oyster Shell Four
2 cups granulated mixed mycos.
It cost us $210 buy the ingredients to mix the yard of soil. There are 201 gallons in a cubic yard. We also have plenty of rock dust, rock phosphate, etc to make another batch left over from what we purchased last fall. The leftovers will make mixing the next batch less expensive. Having friends to mix dirt with is great if you can do it because it spreads out the cost of buying amendments that are only available in quantities in excess of what the recipe requires.
I can't seem to figure out what the '#' means for 4 # Cascade Minerals, 2.5 # Glacial Rock Powder, and so on..
I also want to know what you think about this:
I'd like to have 6 girls, outside. With the proportions you used for your cubic yard (201 gallons) of soil, do you think I'd be alright if I were to just divide your proportions by 3? I'm pretty sure I wouldn't run out if I only used 3G and 8G pots. I'm not opposed to moving the sizes up, if anyone suggests so.
I know PJ recommended a two-soil system, going from seedling soil to veg/flower soil. I'm trying to sort out the numbers.. What would you recommend
size-wise for the seedling & veg/flower pots? I was initially thinking of using a separate pot for each cycle, and doing plastic solo-cups (or similar sized plastic pots) for the seedling mix, ~3G smart pots for veg, and 8G smart pots for flower. Do you think I should use smaller/bigger pots at all?
If I were to have a two-soil system, what sizes do you think would work more in my favor? The Plastic cup to 8G pot, or 3G pot to 8G pot?
PJ, can you send me a link of where to find some 'Klasmann-Deilmann K-1' to purchase? Or can you tell me if it's
one of these? The only thing I could find was 'Klassmann-Deilmann TS-1'.
Besides all of that, I'd like to hear your thoughts on Smart Pots or fabric pots.
Appreciate the help SO MUCH.
