Dennise - No Longer The Newest Of Newbies - Not Growing In MG - Perpetual

Like I just told granny the Black Russian has already popped her little head out of the ProMix. I have never had a germinating bean completely be out of the shell like this one did and I was afraid it wasn't going to be a good thing but she is popped and saying hello world!!!! The next biggest tap root was the chocoloco Broke Ass picked so we shall see if she pops next.......:circle-of-love:

Does anyone know what a little tiny white bug with a red dot on it's back and it makes a place on the plant like a ball of cotton is?When I see it and try to get it it is fast and jumps real high and I haven't been able to get a pic cause the 2 times I have had one on my AK flux I don't see the bug sitting in the cotton looking stuff and try and wipe it off then the bug jumps off and is gone. I have never seen anything like it. It is tiny but bright white and a tiny little red dot in the center... Anybody?????................:circle-of-love:

Sounds like some kind of leaf hopper Dennise, never heard of that species though.

See if hes hiding on a stem, and if when you approach him on the stem with your thumb, he rotates around and hides. Then its definitely a leaf hopper. You can trick him to rotate back around and pluck him out when hes on the stem. But when they're on the leaf it's like impossible to catch lol, maybe its a leaf hopper, maybe it isn't, sounds like it would be if its jumpin' from leaf to leaf tho.

Mealy bugs look like cottony blobs, but they are white and don't move much. Whitefly can disappear in a second and they are not beneficial. Springtails can do this action, so can leaf hoppers. Can you get a close of the cottony blob? Is there any damage to the plant at all? Look closely for tiny pin pricks at the petiole where it meets the leaf on the undersides. If you only saw one, chances are it's okay. Inspect them all, though. We don't want it out of hand.

Had one of those on our Green Pepper plant. They're slender all green with large hind legs for jumping, about the size of a thumb nail? Think he'd been eating on them for quite a few days, it's the only one we found, but your so right about catching them and how they can hide under the leaves. If I see another I'll make sure I get a pic.

Garden I pulled the cotton stuff off and trust me when I tell ya I have inspected her well and this is the second I have seen on her but there are none setting up house. I can't tell that there is any damage but don't think it would have had time as it is inspected thoroughly every day. I hate growing outside! I don't like bugs on my girls.... I know it's not mites and I can't take a pic of the cotton stuff cause I wiped it off but it just looks like a real fluffy little piece of cotton and the bug is shaped like a tiny arrow and is really white with the tiny red spot. Never seen one before and hopefully won't again but I have a feeling I will but I will pay close attention and I'll cut every plant and flower around her down if they get out of hand and I think I will start giving her a little bit of the SNS systemic bug stuff so if they are biting on her they won't like it. Any who thanks guys for the info......:circle-of-love:

A few bugs is a good thing, one they could be predatory bugs eating the bad ones, and two a little stress makes a plant stronger. I would not overreact to one or two bug sightings.

Outdoor does have some uncontrolled factors, but IMO one can grow better smoke outdoor then indoor due to the big bad SUN!

The ice-cream scoops look like the step 1 of the growology, that is the mykos. It's mixed at 1/3 cup per gallon of soil. I assume that the scoops look is from the measuring instrument

Just a guess, red spider mite ??

Do you put pebbles or anything in the bottom to help with drainage in smart pots ?

What are those gray looking ice cream scoops in the 1st and 2nd picture above.?
I certainly hope you find out what pests you have and kill all of them dead !!!

That Black Russian freaked me out! I put her in my medium yesterday late afternoon and she has already popped this morning. I expect the chocoloco to be next cause of the length of her tap root yesterday but we shall see.....:circle-of-love:
Sounds like my BUBBLE GUMMER. She sprouted in less than 12hrs after placing the tap-root in soil.

That's exactly what it is and I use 1 Tbsp per gallon of medium so the little pots have 1 and the big pot has 5,,,,,:circle-of-love:
As per suggested dosage.

You're getting ready to be real busy, as if you weren't busy enough already.

Thanks Dennise,, I am full of questions and they seem to be directed towards you. :circle-of-love:
:peace:
Do you put pebbles, rocks or etc in the bottom of your smart pot for drainage?:peace:

Also how do you mix your pro mix and perlite is it 60/40 or do add vermiculite ? :Namaste:

Thanks for helping me out !:thanks:

This is what a mature mealy bug can look like!

The way to get rid of these is a qtip and alcohol and wipe them off one at a time. Insecticidal soap is another good fix. If you have Dr. Bronner's soap, you can use that to spray the plants off in veg. Leave it for a hour and rinse the plants by misting them in the bug with your pure water. That is a good way to really clean the plants when you bring them indoors. I do that to my houseplants which are out all summer.

That is sorta what it looks like but a lot smaller and I caught the little fluxer! He was back on her a little bit ago and he jumped off and landed on a piece of plywood so I could see him real well and he got the back side of my birkenstock...:rip:.... and I cut the sunflowers down that were looming over her. I think things were literally just falling off the sunflower on to her so I eliminated that worry and I misted her with a spray bottle real good and took a cotton cloth and wiped her all down and I am pretty sure she is going to be fine. There are a couple of tiny holes in some of her leaves but as was said earlier I guess it is to be expected outside.... I won't be growing outside again. I really don't like it. I am going to put some of the SNS 209 in with her next watering and that helps a lot. I left the bottle at a friends house that is growing some girls outside and she is bringing it back to me tomorrow so that will help. I don't know why I stopped giving it to her cause it works remarkably well. Thanks for finding all that for me Garden......:circle-of-love:
