Deep Water Culture Growing Q & A

Re: Stealth Hydroponics Deep Water Culture Growing Q & A

Yes Frankie by all means come on over. The thread is a home thread which means for the most part you can discuss anything.

Re: Stealth Hydroponics Deep Water Culture Growing Q & A

Roseman,

My buddy has a single bucket system with one plant. It's on day #130, 85 days of flower. It has been stretching at the very top lately and has grown 10" in five days. He's trying to figure out why it's flowering so slowly and now is stretching.

The garden is in a plywood cabinet in a garage in Texas. It gets up to 100 degrees in the garage in day time, but he has an AC duct from his central air system in the cabinet. It stays, on average, about 80 degrees in the cabinet, but when the air comes on it goes down to 75 and when the air cuts off it goes up to 92. I reckon it's only 92 degrees for a few minutes at a time becaus ethe air runs a lot.

He uses Technaflora nutes and is following their directions to a tee. Other than not using veg nutes during flower he has followed your tutorial to a tee.

PH balance is always good.

Plant is over 5' high.

Bud sites are NUMEROUS as he topped twice early on.

He has 11 100w CFLs in a mylar lined space that's about 18" deep, 36" wide, and 7 feet tall. That's 100 actual watts, not CFL equivelent, so it's a LOT of damn lumens.

I think the temps are causing the slow flowering because he really only recently ran the air duct to the garden. Lat week it was remaining 90 degrees in there all day long. This week it's better.

But how can he fight the stretching? Shouldn't this plant be putting less energy into growing tall and more energy into producing medicene?

I don't know if it matters, but this plant is bagseed. This grow is like an expirement, but I'm positive he will get better seeds next time and do it again. Deep Water Culture have the good shit.

I'd bet a million bucks its a SATIVA and not Indica, and will take 12 to 14 weeks to Flower.

Indica has very huge leaves, very broad, wide leaves, short stunty bushy plant.

Sativa has longer but more narrow leaves, and grows much taller and not as wide and bushy, unless topped or fimmed. Was the bag seed pot cat shit sknunky smelling pot, (Indica),
or more like a commercial mexican ro columbian strain?

Stretching is the plant reaching to the lights. The lights are either too far away, (I place my CFLs two inches near) or might be old used bulbs????
Or it is not really stretching, it is just growing!

I guess it could be just growing and not stretching. The bulbs are all new for this grow and they are bright and within a couple inches of the plant.

There's no way to tell what kind of strain it was, but i would guess commercial Mexican. The Satvia thing is probably correct. The sucker is TALL and SLOW to bud. Geez. If it takes 14 weeks to flower then it won't be done before he goes on vacation and the whole project will be ruined except maybe for making a little oil. Sucks. He is planning to order some good seeds when this expirement is finished.

Thank you very much for your reply.

Glad to help out. He can still harvest early, and get a buzz.

Re: Stealth Hydroponics Deep Water Culture Growing Q & A

Green007, you certainly flatter this old man.
I wish I was half as smart and knowledgable as some think I am. I'm just a simple grower, and I mean simple. I can not even discuss soil growing, or HID -HSP lights or ebb and flow. I can teach a newbie, but I can not discuss advanced techniques, or different nutes or supplements. Growers that were once students, like FryingPan, Jonnybetreed, or MostlyCrazy, they took what I knew and added so much to it, I learn from them now.
And I see you posting everywhere, being so helpful. I have nothing but praise for you and your willingness to help everyone. You're a well respected grower and BH. I'll give you REP every chance I get.
Peace,bro

Re: Stealth Hydroponics Deep Water Culture Growing Q & A

I was wondering if he wasn't going on vacation that long maybe he could hook something up like a second res to feed and water. If there is someone around he trusts greatly that could be an option as well.

You once said...

give a man a fish, feed him a meal,
teach a man to fish, feed him for life.

I remember that does that mean I here to long. Now you are blowing up his ego lol.

Re: Stealth Hydroponics Deep Water Culture Growing Q & A

You two are too funny. I am just a noob who is a parrot...lol. I just happen to be around a lot so I answer people. I miss helping people and this site satisfies my needs. I just hope people don't get mad that I am just repeating and most is not from experience. Some of course is since I had two challenging grows and with my limitations have to keep it simple which does help some.

Nope. It drinks over a half gallon a day + nutes. I'm the only other guy he trusts and I'll be on vacation with him. In two weeks it 'll be week 14 of flower. He'll likely chop them down then, ready or not.

Also, he added a fan to the A/C duct that he has running to the garden. It's a fan that always draws air from the A/C in the house, even when the A/C isn't running. I'll let you know how that works out.
