Hey guys and gals ... on the nutrient deficiency charts.
All of the proposed deficiencies on those charts can EASILY be manipulated by OVER-reacting to what you "think" is a deficiency.
In other words, you react to what you see from the plant, and cause a myriad of other issues when all it could be is the plant going into senescence.
The Dark Devil I'd say about 35-40 days in the old fans will start to turn colors some of the old fan leaves start to give up and the plant will use those old fan leaves as nutrients for bud building. That is senescence and a sign of a HEALTHY plant. This is completely normal and expected.
For new growers, those charts are and should be treated with a grain of salt. Learn how your cultivar grows properly over time, then after a while you will learn what the plant looks like when they are sick...then refer to charts.
I'm an organic grower so I expect to see senescence in all my plants. I don't pull off dead leaves either, I let them fall off naturally. Looks like the plant is sick and actually dying. Guess what it's dying.. last gasp to reproduce the plants will do whatever it takes to stay alive and begin to burn off leaves and use "translocation" to move stored energy in the plants old leave to bud sites where there's a chance to make seeds.
I look that the buds for health - there's no charts for what a healthy flower looks like, I think we all know what a healthy flower is right... look to the buds for health, not at the leaves unless you're POSITIVE the plant is sick. Most likely scenario for sick plants is 2 things, spider mites and/or over-watering and those 2 pretty much go hand in hand. Fastest way to cull your garden = over watering.
Over think = over react = sick plants! These plants know what to do, water and get out of the way. For folks that feed plants, that's a steep learning curve. Charts not usually needed there as experience is the guide. In gardening, experience is key.
I usually know if something is not right by the smell.... soil smell, flower smell and overall garden smell. My eyes deceive me all the time. I got that from growing plants and it takes experience.
Every time I look at those charts I think my plants should go in the trash; wait what?. After cut dry and cure I've got top shelf buds... with the DD at the top of the top shelf. Those dead old fan leaves and the trim are long gone and in the worm bin FTW.

Read those 2 articles - this is the way of life in plants and lots of other living organisms, I'm always surprised how well tuned nature is.
Always remember we are growing flowers that bloom sometimes in excess of 100 days. There are only a few plants that do this. This plant refined the genetics to do that over 100's of thousands of years that we know of. Much of it thru a symbiotic relationship with humans. Think about that ....
