Cripychakra

Thanx, Cheese and Spike! Your words mean a lot to me, and keep me encouraged.:rasta:
Things are going good in the veg room. The runt has really put out roots now and is catching up with the other two. I topped the runt and changed the res today. The roots are reaching across the res and getting long. I use a shop vac to empty the res, and will now have to use a screen to keep from sucking up roots. I used up my GH nutes, so I am using BC now. I have a lot of that. One thing I have to get under control now is heat. The leaves are curling a lot at the edges. The veg room isn't vented like the flower room. I have a fan in there for circulation, and the closet isn't sealed. Just sliding doors that don't close tightly, so I guess it has passive intake and exhaust. My thermometer is 3' above the plants and is reading 82* now.

This is what I'm talking about. Lower leaves yellowing and dieing and, this is what scared me, spotting on leaves. It was looking a lot like another spider mite invasion. But, upon close inspection with a scope, I didn't see any mites.:phew: Looks like the leaves are getting brown spots along leaf veins. I've had this problem before in one of my early grows. I never figured it out. As I remember, I got a decent harvest. So, it's not terminal, but I would like to fix it.
So, I think
you're right, Cheese. Thanx for looking out!

However, during my inspection I found something else. Balls!:whoa:
Can you see it?
100_08552.JPG

So far, they are only on one girl. I pinched about 4 off. I suspect a light leak on that side of the closet. More Velcro!:rasta: I really need a tent. I saw one that is 2x4x7, which would be perfect. Just don't have the dough right now.
I watered them with Azamax today just as a preventative measure.

Thanx, KannabisKid! I really like my Xs and O! lol As y'all can see, I got 2 phenos from this cross.
After looking over the plant & pest pictorial(say that 3 times fast) again, I think it could be PH spotting. I messed up on the second feeding and gave them a way low PH. That was 19 days ago. I have been PHing all feedings/waterings since then to 6.5. I checked The soil PH with my cheap meter, and it was from 7 to 8.5. I lost a few more leaves, but no big deal.

Good news! No more balls. I have been more careful when closing the black plastic.
WEEK 4 UPDATE Plant 1's hairs are turning color. All buds are fattening up, but especially the stocky one. I'll get some new pics up soon.

QUICK PIC UPDATE
Veg Room 8-11-10: I just trimmed up the bottoms before this shot. They will go to 12/12 this weekend.

Flower Room Tonight: I trimmed off some more ugly leaves. The problem seems to be slowing down, so hopefully I'll have it corrected after the next feeding. You'll see I also had to tie up some branches. They're putting on weight!

Wow, Spike! I am honored! I wouldn't put myself in those ranks. I attribute a lot of my success to luck.:)
For instance, I was lucky in that my first 4 grows, (1st one not journaled), I avoided pest problems through no actions of my own. Now, I am finding I must be vigilant in the War On Bugs. lol Unfortunately, my initial fears about the flowering ladies are true. Spider mites again! This time they look like the dreaded two spotted variety. I have been using Azamax in the last 3 waterings/feeding, and I think it has helped keep them under some control. it is a sparse population, but their damage is quite evident. I gave them a good spraying of Doktor Doom in the bathtub yesterday. I also sprayed the closet while they were out.
100_08743.JPG

I wouldn't recommend spraying your girls so far into flowering. Bud rot. I only did it because my flower room stays between 25% and 32% RH. I will start giving the ones in the DWC Azamax regularly.
The DWC girls in the floro closet went to 12/12 on 8-15-10. No signs of flowers yet. I gave them mild bloom nutes, and will give full strength at next res change.

Thanx, Tunes! They are getting fat. Grab away.
Y'all feel free to try any ideas you see in my journals. I'm no expert, but will help others whenever I can. I learned just about everything I know from here. 420 is a great place for learning and sharing!
Note: If you use the cages, put them in early when your plants are small. Once the branches get long it's practically impossible to thread them through the cage. Let the plants grow up into them threading them as they grow.

I made a stupid mistake last week in the floro room. I let the girls grow up into the lights. The two on the ends got burned. The one in the middle didn't because it's light had gone out. S*** happens when you don't check in for a few days. I moved the T5 to the middle to replace the spent bulb. It's got blue bulbs in it so I guess they're getting "full spectrum".
Here are the pics from last week. I'll post new one this weekend.

In the HPS room I've really knocked down the spider mites. They are not completely gone, though. I'll be hitting them one more time with the Doktor. They will be coming down next weekend. Pics coming soon!

After reviewing the plant & pest pictorial, it looks like my problem in the floro room is P & K deficiencies. Right now I'm running plain water to try to clear out some of the Azamax residue.

Thanx and :welcome: fellow Floridian, SFlSteve! I am flattered and glad I was an inspiration for you to grow. I have read some of your journal, and you're off to a good start. I'll be catching up and chiming in. I'll throw in any "atmospheric pointers" I can think of. Though, it looks like your pretty covered with growers more experienced than I. ;)

Hey 420 gang! Sorry it's been so long. I've been pretty busy, but most of it was good busy.

You can really see the 3 different phenos after removing fan leaves. Lanky, stocky, and in between. In that order. Looks like #3 will be the highest yielder. Unfortunately the second wave clones are from the other two. But then again I haven't smoked them yet.;)

Well gang, I over dried my buds! I let them hang for 4 days, which is probably 2 days too many. It's kinda dry in my house. 30%rh I'm keeping them in closed jars in hopes that some moisture is still in the stems. Unfortunately, the buds lost a lot of their aromas and flavors. But, they have retained an earthy smell and taste. The smoke is smooth with a pleasantly mild "up" high. Good work smoke.
The very dry weights are: #1-30.4g, #2-30.3g, #3-35.8g
So, #3 didn't yield as much more than the others as I thought.

Here are some shots of my ghetto homemade hash press.

The 3 clones in the DWC are still in the floro room. It's week 5, and they are looking pretty sad since I've been neglecting them. I've been kinda busy, and was out of town this weekend. I worked pretty late today and missed their lights on time. Time permitting, they will be getting my full attention tomorrow. I'm also slowly moving the on time to night. This way I can keep running the HPS at night to keep things cool. I think they are starving for P and K. Am I right? Any thoughts? I,m not expecting very much from this run. If you neglect your plants, they'll neglect you.(kicks self in behind) Here are some pics from when I got home yesterday right before the lights went out.

Thanx, KannabisKid! I have Kalichakra from Mandala, a sativa, and I like it. I first read about Mandala in a magazine article. I got it because of it's heat and mold resistance; a trait of all Mandala strains. Also, and mainly, because it's a sativa, it's easy to grow and clone, and it is slow to build a tolerance. I smoke a lot. LOL
I got that info from Dope Seeds, one of our sponsors. Big up to Dope Seeds! Fast, courteous, discreet, and great prices.:thumb:
I just looked on Mandala's web site, and there's a lot more great reasons to try Kalichakra. It's a great everyday, working high. The last harvest was a cross I made from a female Kalichakra and an unknown male. The 3 sad sacks I have going now are clones of those crosses.
8-Miles High sounds like an awesome strain. Like a shorter, more powerful Kalichakra. Will you be starting a new journal?:goodluck:

UPDATE
I've remodeled the HPS room.

SAD SACK CLONES
I have changed nutes in the DWC and moved it into the HPS room. I was using BC that's over 2 years old. I picked up the Dutch Masters gold series and an using it now. I'm still not certain what the problem is, but figured this wouldn't hurt. It's been 6 weeks since I switched to 12/12, but they look like they're in week 3. The trichs are mostly cloudy.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do with these. I'll just see what happens.

So while this grow is winding down, I'll be starting a new journal featuring Northern Lights.
:peace:

Well, I am thinking about harvesting the tops and seeing what happens with the lower buds. The top bud trichs are mostly all cloudy, and there is new growth on the lower buds.

I have also noticed a buildup of salt. The guy at the grow shop said that old nutes will bond with themselves over time. This means they can't uptake into the plant. I think this was my problem, and the source of the salt buildup. I will flush with Flora Shield; a plant and system rinse from GH.

NOTE: If you use Doctor Doom for pests, watch out for the globs of foam that it sprays and drips. I tried to wipe off all globs, but here's where I missed some. These leaves are from the previous harvest.
