They are that colour. In some you can tell where lighting is used for contrast, but mostly it is the genetic purpling that you see. Most if not all of the purple buds have been grown indoors, and cold is not a factor..

That is funny you would say that. My brother worked at the county fair in the fruit and vegetable area last year. The little old ladies that worked there for years were telling him that they were surprised since MMJ became legal here that there had been no fair entries for marijuana. He said maybe this year he would try and see what the fair officials have to say about it! LOL!
