Couldn't Resist A Christmas Auto Grow

it's also not a bottom feed

oh it is. didn't see the second pic

those things only need 1 water maybe while you're gone.

edit : whats the media ?
It's a craft cannabis soil. When you say 1 water, do you mean that I fill the saucer before I leave it should be adequate? Sorry a bit confused.

I will keep an open mind but I don't think week old babes are strong enough to withstand an up pot. I reckon the wicking will keep em going until I get back.

they're tiny enough i'm not even sure they need it. otherwise i'd let it run and see.

It's a craft cannabis soil.

is it your own or a premade ?

soil / neutralized soil can be dense. peat, coco, perlite, rice husks, break up the composition and provide oxygen to the roots. it's important to know what is in the media.

no. maybe just a tiny top water once while you're gone.

I buy the soil premixed. Here is the composition.

I don't know anybody I'd give my keys to unfortunately. I think the wicks will work. There is only one way to find out.

This blog by Seedsman shows in pictures the week by week development of autoflowers. The babies will still be little by the time I get back. I don't think they are going to miss me. They will be at 2 weeks development, just in time for an upcan to the 20 liter when I return.

But that was for extracting into oil in an Instant Pot, right?
No, she was recommending it long before she started using the Instant Pot:
The Dutch discovered that the perfect decarb for maximum THC is 230 F for 110 minutes.
I've cooked oil in the oven on 170°F for 36 hours and my decarb wasn't as complete as it was at 235-240°F for 110 minutes.
Try decarbing for 110 minutes at 110°C. The Dutch have demonstrated that this is a dependable way to get almost complete decarb.

I think some commercial products like Ardent do it in two steps.
Ardent's research says that there is a big difference in decarb rate when doing it in oil.

"When you add the decarbed flower into the fatty oil, the oil encapsulates the flower, acting as an insulator. That’s why it’s necessary to decarb BEFORE you infuse. The oil acting as an insulator means that you won’t get a fully activated product if you don’t decarb before the infusion process."
Source and chart.

I believe Mel compensates by running much longer than an air decarb would take.

Sprouts people, sprouts!
:cheer: :cheer:
I have decided to bottom feed them at this stage as it will be easier to keep the soil moist while I am away. 1tsp Seagrow to a liter of water
I don't think they'll need to be fed at this age or even by the time you get back unless they're really fast growers. Good luck with the wicking setup!

That's right, I remember reading that but it's not in my notes. Thank you.

I don't think so. The only danger is that the top might get dry if the weather is hot and dry. I think @bluter was right when he said one top watering will probably do it.

Shed, just to be clear was Sue referring to an air decarb in an oven? 110 C for 110 minutes.

Actually, now that we have reached this conclusion I am reminded of the simplicity of the formula.

I am a photo taking nut so what I think I will do is a day by day report on the development of the seedlings, which may be helpful to new growers. Once the development can be seen in weeks, I will revert to bi-weekly updates.

The wicking is working wonders. The soil is ever so slightly damp to the touch, and spongy. I think those are perfect conditions for these sprouts to grow big and strong.

At the risk of you abandoning us in SIP Club, Here is a post from Krissi showing a commercial Swick. A few posts down is a video that @el gringuito found. Maybe you can find some grow info by poking around either company's website or on the Jungle River.

Awesome, thank you. When I googled "Swick cannabis", this thread from 420 Mag turned up. I wasn't sure what to make of Krissi's setup. I'm sure I will figure it out with a bit homework. I am not opposed to the idea of wicking throughout the grow. At this point in time I am not sure of the difference between Swicking and Wicking :)

The Swick concept should probably work great with the cloth pots you have!

They both have the same concept of a reservoir of water below the pot. The swick moves the water with wicks of some sort, usually some sort of rope, one end touching the bottom of the reservoir and the other up into the soil mix or running along the bottom of a cloth pot.

A SIP is generally one integrated system and uses the soil itself to wick the moisture up, with the added air gap up into the lower roots.

The challenge I've found with swicks is that it is important to match the wick size to the plant size so having the ability to start small and then increase the size or quantity of the wicks is important (and a feature I didn't think to build into mine back when I was messing around with them).

I am watching this video called Wicking Pots, but I think it looks like SIP? or am I still confused?

Day 3 in Swicks (It feels so good saying that)

First up we have Ms Skywalker Kush Cut

And then we have Ms Red Russian XXL

They both have proud stems and immaculate first leaves. I have a good feeling about these two. I feel pretty certain I can avoid the early leaf damage I had with the last two.

On that note, I am looking at my medium for the grow. I have about 15 liters of unused soil, 20 liters of used soil and 10 liters of used potting soil. I don't have space or a shovel to mix it nicely so I was thinking of layering it. I will amend it by adding Elemental Blend, which is formulated to replenish the Orgasoilux craft soil.

Suggestions for the mixing of medium or layering will be gratefully appreciated.

I have removed the wicks from the reservoir (in my case the saucer), because I have determined the soil to be optimally moist. I think I will give them a top up before I leave but I won't leave the wicks in the res while I am gone, otherwise the soil will become too wet. Right now it feels spongy and slightly damp to the touch.

Hey girl!

Your photography is on fleek babe.

Your grow adventures are off and running!
Hello you :) I just posted at the same time you did. Hope your first shift went well!
