I have a quantum 600w with an air cooled reflector in a 3x4x7 space, with a 6" fan rated at about 400cfm pulling through it. I have one end of the reflector open as an intake, with the 6" fan mounted in the attic. I also have a separate 4" fan pulling through the carbon filter. My intake is nearly at floor level, and is a 4" hole with a little computer fan mounted to it pulling in the from an adjoining room.
I was having a hell of a time using CFL's and just the 4" fan as an exhaust. I was getting temps in the high 80's to low 90's.
I switched over to the 600w, added the 6" fan pulling through the air cooled reflector, and my temps are right at 72 with the reflector about 14" above the canopy. I can get the reflector down to about 6" above the canopy and still keep the temps in the high 70's. Total game changer, and the plants love it. For me, the 2 separate fans, one 4" and one 6" are working wonders on the 600w.
