even though the most votes in 2) are 8 as opposed to 10 for 1) keep it the same, these (#2) are all variations on a theme, it seems 10 want to keep it the same, and 13 want to go to only first, just disagree on what happens to the old winners. just wanted to point that out.

you know what my problem is, I've gotten attached to my CP page. only once in a while do i stray out and perhaps take on another journal. . . honestly i have too many as it is but i don't want to give any up.

but every month the contests end, and I have to venture out and find them all over again. . . when I took third, i had no idea i was even nominated until soniq told me I took third. lol.

i wish there was a way to make them rolling, so i could just subscribe once and be updated on them month to month. maybe a thread that doesn't allow posts and every month a link is added for the current month? then when you update, it will show as a new unread post?

also i don't want to add any more to soniq's workload but i wish anyone who is nominated could be auto-pm'd. . . but since i think soniq has to do it all by hand, it may not be worth the work.

i agree that i have to go to what i consider an obscure corner to find these contests. but to be honest, there is probably a ton of stuff on this site i would find interesting that i will probably never find.

Not sure if this addresses your issue, but I have my thread subscriptions set up as "instant email notification", which I believe is the default, and then I can go to my ISP's web mail page and see what threads have gotten traffic without even being logged on to 420Mag.

yeah, except i am often in situations where i may be checking my email for something a colleague sent me or something and someone might be standing over my shoulder and i would not be following the first commandment of stealth.

plus i would still have to go and subscribe to the new months thread every month. if it was much easier to access or notice, more poeple would prob look there and get involved. . . if thats the goal. i tend to do more things when they are easier.

but thanks for the tip bro. there is still a lot i prob dont know about this software.

420% agree, there's no better way to navigate and stay on top than with the control panel And man do I hear you on how the sibscuptions add up. I've got 4900 right not; thank for bud gods they're not all active.

Not sure I agree with grouping choices 2-5 as being variations on a theme.

#2 & #3 are doing away with runner ups
#4 & #5 keep the runner ups (still announced, still get rep points)

I could have phrased #4 & #5 "keep the runner ups, do away with titles...."

Wow did I come into this thread late and got to read many fine opinions. Here's mine (belated). Thanks, Andy for the heads-up.

Decisions &/or Changes Based on Input
1) Titles stay for life

You're welcome to <HIDE> mine; I certainly haven't done anything to warrant notice this month since I've been away for most of it. The awarding of the title, yeah, it's an honor for sure thankyou and appreciated. My preference would have been to add in a prominent location a "Hall of Fame" listing past winners for each contest. Give everyone that wins the title for the month, then bestow them a permanent title that reflects their inclusion on the rolls of past winners. If a "Hall of Famer" wins something else in the future, change their title for that month and then back to "HoF." You could muck about with adding 2x, 3x, or different colors/stars, but really, why bother? I would think the simple way would be enough - and easier for the staff.

4) We will hold "of the year contests in each category" - a run off between each of the monthly winners

Previous winners should always keep the recognition/honors that they were awarded. I believe there is adequate precedence for not taking something away after giving it just because you change the rules; besides, it's the right thing to do.

I have seen contests where I just didn't feel that there were enough entries (and/or votes!) to merit having a third or even second place. This is not meant to slight those who received such awards - I have often wanted to vote for everyone in, say, Plant of the Month. But I believe that whether any given contest has a recognized first place only, first and second, or first, second, and third should depend on the number of nominees (and to a lesser extent, on the number of voters).

4) Do away with runner up titles but still award the rep points (old winners keep titles)

Again, I would make this based on the numbers for that particular contest. Should there be awards for second/third place if there are only a handful of nominees or a handful of voters (other than the nominees). I would work out the numbers to apply this to future contests but leave all previous point awards alone.

We've got the members to make for huge contests, and probably a lot more "regular" lurkers. It's a shame that there isn't more participation, at least on the voting side.

Do not add the date for the latest win to the member's title

Shift more focus onto the Plant of the Month contest and less on Nug of the Month... as a contest. With PotM, the person is more likely to be involved in the growing of the plant, whereas with NotM, the bud might come from another grower. Keep NotM, but more as a showcase and less as a contest. I like looking at bud porn as much as the next person, I suppose. But for the growers who're producing their own nugs, show it to me with a picture of the plant in the PotM thread. I'll tend to admire it more. Waiting on your plant's harvest to dry/cure for that nug pic would also allow you to add a smoke report to your PotM post and a retrospective.

Wow, I thought I came back to a pile-up. I take it that you have put the Subscription Folders option in the CP to great use to keep the threads sorted by your particular categories? Great tool.

I have been reading this thread and its a hot one.
IMO...I dont want a 2nd or 3rd place title..who wants to be 3rd? but thats just me, If I enter a contest I dont want to be anything but 1st. thats what people remember.

Im sorry if I came off as an ass. truly didnt want to ruffel feathers. Ill eleborate..I have the benfit of winning of something already (which I am proud of). But I can assure that had I not previously won a title....and I were to enter...which will happen again soon.....I dont want a 2nd or 3rd. I want to win..is that make me a bad guy? I do have a slight advatage just because I grow several plants each time and can pick which I want.
There are alot of great growers that I admire big time like Hierba that havent won (I think) But I voted for him. I dont think he would a 2nd or 3rd personaly I may be wrong. Im just saying there alot growers here that also may feel the same.

Whats with the low count..23 people cant possibly represent so many. thanx for those who did vote. I would add that NO TITLES SHOULD BE STRIPPED...THATS JUST WRONG, YOU WON...YOU WON..CONGRATS
