The very first press i did was with my wife's hair straightener. LoL... she don't know. Anyhow, it squished out a good bit but only about half what I got in my bench vise. It's pretty crude but it works.

The press has kicked my ass twice now, hence the reason I tried BHO run today.
The only time I got a good yield is from kief or hash. The hash was best result. I just lightly pressed a pile of kief into a loose compacted chunk. Placed inside teabag and pressed between plates in the vise while heated to around 140° with the heat gun. Maybe 20- 30 seconds per press... I've never gotten huge results, but it sure is a nice way to get rid of trim/popcorn

That plant seems a bit on the small side for a 30 gallon pot. How long was she in there before you flipped her? I usually see much fuller plants in pots that size. Not a criticism, just an observation brother.

@Preston9mm Preston agree the pot is a little large. But hell, you have the space right? My suggestion is to make the video! I want to see how you squish that fire baby!!!!!

I’m in. I’m all about the alternatives to combustion.
It is definitely on the small side. This was a freebie seed that I got. Labeled an auto flower but after 3 months veg, no flowers. Flipped lights I November it has flowered sparsely. I was expecting a bunch more stretch but the plant just plateau'd.... I'm just waiting for trics to change so i can chop her. Buds dont look like they will amount to much so I'm gonna shake them down for concentrate.
I'll put together a journal or video when I process everything.

That would depend on your desired end result. With a lower alcohol content you'll have more water in your product.

I'm thinking that the process might take a while longer to achieve but it wouldn't be so flammable and should give the same product. Getting 100% (200 proof) alcohol in Ontario is tough, at least I've never seen it. Yes, No?
It will be similar but no not the same. With less alcohol content you won't be able to remove as much from the plant material the potency just won't match up. That's not saying you can't make product with lower proof but if it was worth it to run it with low proof they wouldn't use more expensive high proof commercially. Not positive on across the border stuff I know some provinces can buy extractohol(190 proof?) but not grain alcohol (everclear 150proof).

Jealous! I'm still really inconsistent on my yield on concentrates. Some times I'll squish out a fat booger.... Some times I get crap.
Sure looks like you have a good handle on it though. Bad ass!
About how much flower material did you use to extract that slab?

How about 151 proof rum? I have some from an old trip to Jamaica. Might give it an interesting flavor.

I was buzzing through here this morning and it really got my gears turning. I had bought a flat iron around xmas time as the rainforest was having some killer deals. I tried pressing bud a few times by hand, results sucked. Next I used a small table top vice to squeeze the flat iron but once again the plastic casing was just bending and not really applying good force to the bud. So no I present to you flat iron V3. I disassembled the flat iron and attached the heat plates to each side of the vice. I did trim down the plastics so I could reuse them for the power button and temp screen. Just did a quick press of some Jack Herer and heres the results:

That was probably 40 50 gs.
Pretty sure that was when I was still running the rest of my first harvest. The returns were not stellar.... but the material wasnt grown to its full potential.
The following grow was like 15% on the lowers, lard and stuff. Much better!
Anywhoo I was just cruising through here again to see if there was any good info. I'm likley going to reboot this thread.... CC 2.0 (like make a whole new thread) now that we can actually discuss BHO extraction. So @Preston9mm I'd be happy to answer any questions going forward.
My biggest concern is ALWAYS saftey. BHO....when done correctly... is safe and effective. So I'll work to get the new page going here soon. Among 1000 other little projects I'm working at...

And the last slab I blasted... it was over a half ounce of fire.
