Simply amazing, Looking really nice and I bet it smells even better than it looks, Great job and can not wait to see some manicured buds and a smoke report on the finished dried meds. Gosh if there good now with a quick dry they are going to be amazing after a little cure. Again, Great job...
 
This is soooooooooooo sick! Im jealous and excited for you all at the same time... I think its awesome your dad is always trying new things all mad scientist like. Take advantage of it cause when the ideas run out you will miss it like my dad lol. He would never help me grow bud but he was still cool.

The ladies are sexy as ever. I would like to have a few minutes in that room alone if you don't mind. lol

thanks guys, it will be nice to harvest a little tonight (maybe), the wait has been too long.

ahoyhoy JG, it seems to run in the family, i went to school for a while taking chemistry, i had to drop because of back problems but i was known as the mad scientist among my friends. always showing up with a test tube i blew into a pipe or bringin around the iso hash/butane hash i was always making. my buddy and me made moonshine a couple of times when were about 18, that was a lot of fun.

and aside from what is running in the aero system my dad has also picked up a bunch of stuff to experiment with... spent about 1K that isnt even being used yet... 2 ultrasonic pond foggers with 5 heads each (we couldnt get the fog to circulate far enough, even with a fan and had heat issues). hopefully we can work them into the next design when the room is empty again.

i went and read a bunch of posts on trichomes and curing to refresh my memory and im going to take 2 down in the next 48 hours. the smaller plants seem to be a little more mature, 10-20% red pistils with all trichomes at least starting to go milky no amber that i can see. the larger plants dont have any red pistils yet and some clear trichomes. ill do the first knock down when about 50% pistils go red

some pics will be up late if i do a chop
 
the yucky roots in the aero system are recovering fast, most of that gunk has gone away already and i see some white tips. ill probably do a res change tomorrow.
 
haha thats awesome. I wish I could get down with chemistry but Im remedial or something. lol. I'm trying my very earnest to keep up with everyones posts on here with all this crazy growers jargin but sadly I feel terribly behind. It's all good cause I like all the pretty pictures lol!
 
get the basics down and you are good to go. and ask a question if something doesnt make sense... i actually got mostly C's in high school, when you like what you do its a lot easier to learn it.
 
im afraid there wasnt the drastic increase in ripeness i was hoping for. everything looked about the same as yesterday but i guess that gives it another day to bulk up and gain a little more potency. looks like i could have left the nutes on for an extra feed but no biggy the final phase has nutrients that dont need to be broken down to keep it going strong til harvest.
 
i forgot to mention my brother wants to try adding a flavor extract to one of the plants. i looked into it and seems like you add the concentrate 1-3 hours before harvest and cure it nice and slow and you end up with the smell of whatever you added but it doesnt transfer to the taste when smoked so much. its more of an accent to the pot than a way to make your stuff taste like fruit.

lol, if i didnt have any bud to smoke with my dad he would have had me take a plant down early. this morning before putting them away i took another little bud off to check out. tonight at least 1 is coming down but it looks like most of them want another day or 2. it seems like the CO2 didnt really decrease harvest time, my guess is it wasnt constant enough. it did help the plants tolerate the high temps and grow faster.

im glad you like the info OMM, if i didnt want a degree in chemistry it would be teaching.
after all the harvest pics and some yield data i want to collect, im going to start another journal. i think this time ill give it an official name and list all my parameters. i already have a full veg room so i have to start another batch on 12/12. as soon as these things are done they are going in

Sounds good, I think patients is the hardest part of growing the MJ that is until you get a nice stash and then your really not in any hurry so your second grow patients wont be a big of an issues. But try and wait until they are exactly the way you want them before harvest. Cutting down early would be a huge mistake. Just an opinion take it with a grain of salt. Great job and enjoy. You deserve it for sure...
 
I think Sonzor is right. If it's only be a couple extra days why not wait for the chances of an even better outcome? Your grow is AMAZING already... I'd like 4you to have such good smoke your hallucinations have hallucinations. Congrats regardless
 
argh!!! another day of waiting...

i am definitely going to wait til they are ready, last grow we waited too long to pick any of them and all we had was stuff that put you to sleep.

from what i have gathered it seems there are two main suggestions when to harvest.

1... when about half the trichomes are still clear to take it down. this ensures no drowsy effect and big head high
2... as the red hairs reach 50% on the plant (varies by strain) the trichomes should be all milky. as the red hairs approach 80% the trichomes start to go amber. this is where peak ripeness is at.

this is what i am goin for because i dont mind a little dopey effect if there is more of a head high along with it.

red hairs were at about 30% on the more mature plants and i cant see any clear trichomes any more. so taking one now would give me the best of both suggested harvest times. and we want a little variety in our smoke
 
i kept one in the dark, its a little before the 50/50 red white pistils. the next few will come down when they are at 50-80% red then the rest will come down around 80-100% red. no pictures til tomorrow around 8. ill start my harvest around 6 am.
 
the first of many has come down...

im guessing ill get about 2-3oz off this one, if its more i will be really happy.

looks like a nice havest there dude. Can I ask what color them balls were? Looks kind of clear from here. But then I am nearsighted. Congrads on your harvest. Sweet ow time to put that one bud ontop the tv to quick dry sample huh. Looks good dude
 
some pages suggest harvesting when there are still some clear trichomes, some suggested letting them get all milky or wait til they begin to go amber. this one is to see how the buzz is with a few clear trichomes. next i want them all milky, then a bit going amber and a tiny bit with heavy amber
