Thanks Tiggy. I just got a new DSLR. I want a macro lens... So far, I'm not certain I didn't do just as well with my Samsung phone.

Here is some Golden Lemons - day 49 of flower.

Happy new toy bud.:thumb: Notice the tonal fidelity in DSLR shots compared to mobile phone shots......there's a lot of colours in between green and blown out featureless white. Good chance of sharp focus extending right out to the corners of the image too....not just a sort of sharpish bit in the middle ;) :biglaugh:

Are you familiar with exposure compensation, using a polariser and using a tripod? Manual focus and depth of field control are useful skills to have too and you don't need a macro lens to learn things that will help you get more out a macro lens when you do get one.

Wish I got a chance to practice proper technique on flowering plants but hopefully this example of a young plant will serve as a good example of the difference a DSLR and knowing how to use it can make:

That PC looks amazing, PJ, and your Golden Lemon actually looks lemony!

I used to shoot a lot of film pictures with an SLR back in the day, Kushtie. I don't use the auto features on the new camera much - preferring aperture priority mode and have fun with bracketing exposure, etc. Right now I just have two kit lenses, an 18-50 and a 75-300 zoom. I need to get some filters at some point, a fixed focal length 50 mm or slightly shorter pancake, and like I said I would love to play around with a true 1:1 macro. The 75-300 gets pretty close to 1:1 but needs to be about 6 feet from the subject. I have an el-cheapo tripod that is super fussy trying to adjust when taking a macro at those distances.

Here's some Panama day 49 of flower.
