Colombian Gold Grow: Come Learn With Me How To Produce Your Own Seeds!

This post is for @MrGreene . Here is a picture of the largest fan leaf I could find on my Colombian Gold female. How does it compare to yours?

I took the two cuttings off the Colombian Gold female on October 23rd. The first one showed a root day before yesterday the 5th of November. So that's what 13 days after harvesting them from the mother plant? I am okay with that amount of time.

Are you retired too?

Haha! But no I wish I was though ! Still a youngin! But I’m lucky to run my own company so I work whenever and wherever I want ! The perks of being your own boss!

@Dutchman1990 ..........it is generally about day 3 that I start weening the cuttings from the dome. If they don't like being out from under the dome they'll let you know by drooping. If after 30 minutes they're drooping some then put the dome back on again and let them stand back up which they will do. BUT if they look good after 30 minutes put the dome back on for a bit. Then take it off for 40 minutes the next time and see how they do. If they're still looking good after 30 min, 40 min, and 50 min take it to an hour. If after an hour they still look fine next time go 90 minutes. Within a couple few days you should be able to get them out from under the domes for good. And if anyone makes any retired cracks just ignore them.

Thanks beez! I started with 45 minutes and they seemed fine so I domes them back up again for another 45 and I just opened them again. I will let them go for an 60-75 minutes this time and see how they are!

This is them the first time after 45mins.

Then back under the domes for another 45

Then finally out again now for their 60-75minute outing.

Because I want the plants to have to get their water from the soil I cut about 1/2 off of all the leaves. I will be curious and hopeful that yours do take root with that much foliage left on the stalk. Please me sure you peek in on those cuttings going so quickly from 30 minutes to an hour and 15 minutes. I would hate to have you to find them all drooped over.

Ok sooooo great news!

I went a little longer than expected 6:36pm until 8:08pm with the cups off.. and the results are in ! No sagging no dropping and they look strong here @beez0404 let me know what you think! Should I take the cups off for good tomorrow ? Or try a longer off cycle before complete removal?

Beginning of the 92minute no dome time:

And after the 92minutes we have this !

I think they look pretty much the same maybe even a bit more perky ? I think I could possibly take the domes off tomorrow for good what do you think!

The one in flower has lost most of her big ones. Here's the biggest one that's left.

The larger veg girl who isn't very big yet has them about the same size.

Yeah see those are probably twice the size of the largest on the CG female I have in flower. Just a pheno different from your two girls.

I would suggest putting the domes back on overnight, and tomorrow take them off (peeking in on them) for 2 hours. Do like you did today (very smart) and take a before and after picture. If they still look the same in the after picture I would say you're good to go. However, there is a difference in our cuttings which may or may not cause you an issue. I cut all my leaves back to about 1/2 size. But again, if they're looking that awesome I think they will be good.

Clones are looking healthy Dutchy!

Beez I have a question about that Colombian sexy time tent? (Proper term)

When does the action start?? My studies say, week 3-4 is when pistils explode and then the magic? How long do you leave the male in there? Do you cull him after he’s done his deed?? Do you turn him into edibles? So many questions today

Newty.............I will leave the male in there until he begins to drop pollen. And yes, it is typically about 3-4 weeks after the pollen sacks start to appear. Because I want the seeds to be reaching maturity about the same time as the female plant I want to wait to pollinate her after she has been flowering for about 5 weeks (figuring a 10-11 week flowering time) so this is possible. So after the male is removed at some point he will begin dropping pollen which I will collect. When I've collected enough I'll remove the male to the compost pile. And then at the appropriate time pollinate the female. She is a sacrificial plant in that her only goal is to produce a bunch of seeds. So I will pollinate her heavily looking to maximize the seed yield.

@SweetSue @newty Here is a Did You Know that might be worth investigating. I was talking with a life long friend yesterday. I haven't seen him in decades. Anyway, we both used to smoke a lot together and after years he just up and quit one day. He explained at the time "it's just not as enjoyable anymore" and it was left at that.

During our conversation yesterday he went into more detail why he suddenly quit all those years ago. He said that much of the pot he smoked would give him a rapid heartbeat, anxiety and paranoia symptoms which were very unpleasant for up to 30 minutes sometimes. So he quit.

Well he went on to say he is now smoking again. And now that he's growing his own weed he grows what gets him high without the side effects that caused him to quit smoking years ago. But he said he often smokes with friends and it is not uncommon for those old feelings to resurface. But now he says he has a cure for the anxiety, paranoia, and rapid heart rate...........

Peppercorn!!

He said he carries a small vial with peppercorn inside. And at the onset of the "bad" feelings he'll chew on 3 or 4 peppercorn balls and almost at once he feels better.

So if this is something you experience maybe give it a try? It certainly couldn't hurt you unless of course you're allergic to peppercorn.

@newty ...........You had asked earlier "when does the action start". Here are two pictures showing male pollen sacks. The first picture shows the less mature pollen sacks. Note they are sort of sticking out off the branch. Attached to the branch and pointing out sort of parallel to the ground. These are getting close but are still developing inside.

Now, these have grown out on their little hanging stems and are hanging parallel to the branch now. The ones hanging down are very near ready to open and drop pollen. These two pictures were taken about a week apart from each other. So when you see the pollen sacks hanging down from a tiny stem the action is getting close to starting.

This one branch above could pollinate probably 25 plants. A little goes a LONG way.

@newty .............Something I keep forgetting to tell you. I know you are trying some auto flower plants in 12/12 lighting. And I had mentioned that I finished that "Think Different" plant with the real big cola in 12/12 lighting. But that was incorrect. It was actually finished in 11/13 lighting which I had the timer set for to benefit that Hawaiian Mayan Gold plant
