Coco Scrog - Multiple Strains

I gave the girls a spray down with Azatrol this morning.

Yeah! Let the scrogging begin! Nice looking there S4D. Screen looks solid. Like the first bud porn too!

Finally! Just another week or two before I can start training through the screen, I'm starting to get anxious. Thanks, although it is not as solid as it looks Lol! I threw it together very quick and it is obvious up close haha oh well I don't think the plants will notice, or at least I hope not :hmmm:

I love the LST on that Tahoe... looks amazing. That will be awesome when we are looking at the other side of that screen!! (and not seeing the screen because of bud)

:thankyou: James!

Hopefully I get nice thick stalks like yours, or should I say trunks :laughtwo:

I'm really liking the look of the Tahoe so far. It has a very nice smell in Veg so I can't wait to see her in flower. I've been interested in Swerves strains (Cali Connection) for a while so I have very high hopes for this plant. I still have about 2months of Veg left so I'm hoping I can keep them from overgrowing the screen in that time which may be very difficult. I'm just going to train them like crazy and try to fill up every hole in the screen, I just topped and Fim'd all the nodes on the 21st so there should be loads of new nodes appearing in the next few weeks

lol :thankyou:, I can't believe how much they have plumped up:slide:. Surprised me for sure!!

I hope your only problem is overgrowing your screen!!:thumb:

I know! Your grow is turning into a jungle already, just keep doing what your doing! Thanks for the kind wishes my friend :high-five:

looking good, i like the scrog as well, has got nice big holes, should make it easier to look after

:thankyou: Don!

The mesh is 2"x4". I believe there are 187 holes to fill, I counted before but I don't have a very good memory :tokin:

It is actually leftover from the tomato cages I made. Scrog's really appealed to me and I noticed there are not many outdoor Scrog grows so I figured what the heck and decided to give it a shot. If I like how it turns out I may construct small single plant Scrogs in the future, that way I can move each plant around to water, defoliate, harvest, etc.

I also bought a small single plant screen thing from home depot to give it a try. It was only $3 and if it works good then I may just get a bunch of these. It is 16" in diameter and has 21 holes with three stakes to drive into the ground or container. I'll post a picture of it when I get a chance, it's pretty neat for the price.

im very interested in watching this outdoor scrog, the plant is going to be huge though so will need plenty of space to stretch its arms

:thankyou: I'm glad someone is interested :yahoo:

I'm thinking they may get quite large in about 2 months time. I'll keep pulling them under the screen to try to keep the vertical height down. I have about 6 3/4' headroom but I'm worried about budrot with that many colas getting that tall so I'm gonna try to keep them close to the screen until flower.

The risky part of a Scrog outdoors is you can't control the flip. Indoor growers flip to 12/12 when the screen is around 75% filled to avoid it from getting overcrowded, I don't have that luxury outside!

The SLH & Tahoe are under a 3'x4' screen. That gives them each 2'x3' of screen space and about 95 holes each

I just checked it out and you are right, they are very similar! Thanks and don't be too hard on yourself yours look fantastic, plus auto's always seem to be more finicky. YOU are the LST master after that Mr. Nice Angel Heart :thumb:[/QUOTE]

I must of missed this response. :o TY SO MUCH. that means so much to me :) :Namaste: Your plants are pretty awesome too brah:thumb: Now lets see how she looks in october :)

Yes I was inches away from going for the outdoor scrog with Angel heart #1. I decided against it based on what i think would be best for the scrog: I think the best way to scrog outside(without experience, just educated guess) is to do an LST similar to mine and keep training to maintain an even canopy. Then come september time, build the appropriate size Scrog set up and place it over with the tops of the colas fed through a little bit? THen let it FLOWER! :p

Im sure you have an idea but these thoughts and stipulations have gone through my head so I figured Id pass on some ideas! Def excited to see how it works out though! Def a challenge! many outdoor growers like myself kind of steer away from the challenge haha.

GL BROTHA ill be checking in :Namaste:

Sorry for the multi post but I just thought, Those fabric pot are prob MUCH BETTER for outdoors. I have a problem with heat by me. And one of the main problems is the color and material of the pot. Also i imagine these pots allow a lot of air flow. Im gna have to give them a try! :Namaste:

No problem and thank you! We shall both have some monsters by October :slide:

Yeah I agree, I think it is best to train as much as possible to get as many tops as possible to fill the screen. These plants have been topped/Fimmed numerous times and are being LST'd. I would love to do it the way you're talking about and build the screen right before flowering but I'm limited with my space in my greenhouse. If I had a larger space I would definitely start Vegging in February and build screens in july-august.

Don't worry about it buddy I don't mind at all! I definitely agree that the fabric pots should help with the heat build up, I used orange home depot 5 gallons last season and they warmed up a bit. It is supposed to create a healthier root system by air-pruning the roots similar to air pots. The only downside is they are supposed to need water more frequently but that isn't much of a problem for me! The grey aurora pots were only $4 for 5 gallons and $5 for 7 gallons, the smart pot was much more expensive at $7.50 for a 5 gallon. :thedoubletake:

The sad part is the smart pot feels way less sturdy.

hmmmm. My buddy Mr mud pie actually had one of these outside and it tipped....so for the stability, I would prob bury them half way into the ground. They would still get the great air for half of the pot? Also the water is no prob for me either. I got a well :Namaste: Do they have larger smart pots? Or I might just start getting these solely for auto flower strains. switch between the 5 and 7 till I'm convinced which one is better for autos. But as for the big girls that I grow annually, They will need 20+ gal pots :) :Namaste:

Wow that would definitely suck! Mine are pretty short and they feel pretty planted so I don't think I should have a problem with that, plus my plants don't get very strong wind since they are in a greenhouse.

Your lucky, I would love to have a well!

Yes they do, the root pots go up to 500 gallons and the smart pots go up to 1000! I've seen a grow using 400gal's and he had massive trees. You can look up the grow if you'd like, just type in Captain Kronic's medical dirt grow.

I think 5 gallon would be more then enough for autos. I have tomato plants that are 5-6ft tall and 3ft in diameter in 5 gallons, it is just a matter of watering and feeding more frequently. Some of the roots are insanely thick. I'm growing in 5 gallons again this year because I've already made so many changes I'd like to keep something the same, it will help me determine if the screen increased the yield. I will most likely move up to 7 & 10 gallons next year.

Update: 6/1/12

Alright I finally got around to an update, I will do it slightly different this time!

They were given a BPN feeding yesterday (20ml Grow along with 5ml's of the rest of the farmer pride line).
They will be given another foliar dosage of Azatrol within the next two days.

I will post pictures from 7 days ago (last update) along with the updated photos taken today, this should give us an idea of the growth over the last week!

Let me also remind you that today is 11 days since topping/FIM'ing all the nodes so the growth will be slower then usual due to the recovery

I will update the Snow White & Critical Mass soon although there is not much to show. I don't know what I'm doing wrong because they are getting the same care as the others which look great. Anybody that is familiar with coco, are you supposed to water frequently and not let it completely dry out? I used promix last grow which is peat moss and I've heard it is very similar but I let the promix go pretty dry before watering because the plants seemed to prefer it. What am I doing wrong?

Dunno about coco bro, but I dont think youre doing anything wrong. Your plants looks great man, new growth is amazing even though theyve been topped\fim'd. Maybe they just got more of a shock? Wait it out I say, keep doin what you do.
I think coco holds moistere better than promix, but also heard u cant overwater coco, but really dont know?

Thanks Juicy and congrats on your harvest! The troubled plants were not in this update, I'll get some pictures soon. That is exactly what confuses me, it seems to retain moisture better but also says on the bag "meant for frequent feedings, up to several a day" and I've also heard that you can't overwater it as well and to treat it more like hydro so IDK? Hopefully someone familiar with coco will have some advice!

Thanks man :high-five:
Are they all in coco? Maybe check out Twelve12's journals, he went coco ;)

Yeah that is the weird part! The coco mix contained a few things like perlite & oyster shells and I added a few amendments such as Worm castings, Gypsum, Azomite, Mycorrhizael fungi & a tiny bit of OC+. It could be something I added but how come only some are stressing when they are all in the same mix? I may try to loosen the coco down to the rootball during transplant and replant those ones in promix and see if that helps.

I haven't been using coco real long but in my experience so far is seemed my pro-mix would hold more moisture. I was having a hard time getting the straight coco to use the wick system I ended up adding a little promix to get it to work. I don't think you can over saturate the coco like you can dirt, it only holds so much water then just passes the rest through. (I do realize that's pretty much how water works too though) Coco just doesn't seem to have the retention skills the promix has.

My aunt bernice plant has more promix and worm castings then the other ladies due to being replanted one less time and me changing the soil makeup. Now when I water them, I have to give her close to an extra quart than the rest, just to get the same amount of run-off.

I have the home depot vegetable and herb kind.

Yes aunt bernice is in a 3 gallon grow bag, just like misty, and barbie.

Barbie and Aunt bernice are both seeds from my love lettuce last grow so they are as close to sisters as they can get.
After the last feeding the rest are a nice shade of green but these two are both yellowed. I would have to say that is a lack of nitrogen because of them being 75%sativa they may require more than the rest... any personal opinions on how to add just N???
