Texahontas, I wondered if you're sampling the occasional bud to see if they are ripe to your liking. The thread here reads like you are going to chop blindly without having sampled, just based on the trichomes. You don't have to guess like that and chop the whole plant at once, you know, in the dark as it were, blindly. Do a quick dry of select buds and see if those buds are what you want to chop.
