Chef Chucks Pollen With Star Pupil, Sour Bubba, Cookies n Chem, NL & Grandpa Glue

I took a photo of my Jellium seedling today. She had three cotyledon leaves, three first permanent leaves, and now three 3 fingered leaves for the second set of permanent leaves.

Her main stem has whorled phyllotaxy!!! That’s amazing. She’s gonna be really bushing and produce big. I’ve seen this before but only on a side branch.

Eventually this is what you'll be looking for on your SP plant. I spotted these starting to form about 3 days ago but waited till today to snap photos so you could actually tell what they were.

Love and respect to all! :yummy: Late to class, stoned, shades down in the last possible row but I'm in the zone takin notes! Gonna hang out for this one Chef. I'm gonna try to make a cross and seeds for the 1st time. The likely dad is a purple punch and the momma is going to be Afghani. This is all in the greenhouse so gotta do a chunky bud or two on a likely branch. Watching, learning, high, grateful.:yahoo::peace:

thanks for coming @Fredwak ! Things are just barely getting started here.

Yes thank you Beez! So I’m looking for pollen sacs coming out of the top of each branch as well as the side shoots. Should I be carefully going around the side shoots when I’m applying the CS? Do you think 4 branches is enough to “open pollinate” or should I collect and apply the pollen by hand? I should have about 10 more days before the pollen sacs better start making their appearance.

Hey Grandpa, good to see you! Beez is on point with the photos as usual.

Pollen sacks will show up in the same places buds will show up. AND, initially you may have pollen sacks and then a bud will form and "engulf" the pollen sacks. But yes it is important to be sure to brush the CS anywhere a bud will form as well as the full length of the branch/branches you're treating. Pretty much everything other then the leaves.

@beez0404 what about the tiny little leaves coming out of the nodes? Should I be careful of the leaves? Or just get in there and make sure everything has CS coating it. Also what do you think on hand pollinating vs open pollinating?

I wanna do an official update finally! The SP is starting to do some good stretching but no signs of pollen sacs yet, so we’re still waiting on that. The moms have been in flower for 12 days, serious stretch has happened and they’re starting to put out some good pistils. The NL more so than the other moms, but that makes sense. She’s the shortest flowering plant. No flowers present on the GG mom. I’ve considered putting her back in the veg tent cause I haven’t seen roots on any of the GG cuttings I’ve taken so far.. I think I’ve got a couple more days to decide. For now I’m leaning towards just leaving her in there, SPxGG is one that I’m really looking forward to even if I only get a dozen seeds.

thanks for checkin me out. We should have some good action coming up soon!

Keep in mind that the CS is generally sprayed on to the plants. So keeping it off the leaves is impossible in that case. If you're talking about tiny leaves in the crotch of a node...…..where a V is formed, sure go for it. Paint everything except the leaves. I find brushing on the CS keeps the plant healthier. I also find I save $10-$15 in CS brushing it on as opposed to spraying it on.

My preference for seed making is hand pollinating the selected branch or branches. This works for me because I don't want to make 1,000+ seeds off a plant. A couple hundred will do me just fine. Hand pollinating allows me to pollinate the branches I've picked out (always branches on the bottom of the plant) and allow the rest of the plant to mature seed free. So I am basically pollinating buds that would end up in the larf pile.

These plants are big enough to do 1000+ seed? They seem far too small with far too few nodes. Remember that this light is far too under powered to produce like we’d normally expect our lights to produce. I mean you’ve made infinite more seeds than I, but 1000 per plant seems like a lot. These plants are only about 18-20 inches tall max. The CnC is like 14 inches tall but she’s got a lot of branches. But if you look at the first picture, the Sour Bubba. How many seed do you think one of those 4 main branches will produce?

Well no, I'm not talking specifically about your group of plants. But looking at your plants when they're all finished stretching you'll have enough plant to easily pull 250+ seeds off each plant if you hand pollinate the buds. The GG no so much but still if she can grow 6-10 decent sized buds for you they'll give you a healthy amount of seeds.

the GG still seems to be vegging. I might have to save some pollen to hit her with later if she goes on vegging another week. That’s fine if she only gives me 30-40.

My Colorado Cookies auto has taken to sleeping at night now. About a half hour before lights out she does a little droop. In the morning when the lights come on she perks right back up again. She is 27 days old today. No idea when she will start to flower as I've not grown this strain before. I always hope later then sooner to give them more time to develop and get bigger. I did not top her. I just snapped this picture 5 minutes ago. In front in the solo cup is the SP plant.

Yeah my Xanadu and my Grandpa Glue give the night time droop also. Your Star Pupil is definitely bigger than the last time I saw it. She’s nearly out of funky seedling stage and into real vegging. Her soil looks drier too, I bet she’s liking that.

I've been doing a good bit of research on seedlings and clones the last couple weeks. Trying to find ways to improve my methods to get my cuttings and seedlings to produce more roots more quickly. A product kept popping up and seemed to always get stellar reviews. I ordered a small 6 oz bag of it today and when it arrives I want to take a few cuttings and put everything I've learned into practice and see what comes of it. It wasn't all that expensive so if it doesn't seem to do much not a huge loss.

Hmmm Azos, it rings a very faint bell. I feel like I’ve ready about it but a long long time ago. It’s like the bacteria that does a similar job as the mycorrhizae? Definitely let me know if you notice a discernible difference

I'm hoping that it will help cuttings not only root faster, but to form thicker and healthier roots as well.

@beez0404, I use Azos from Xtreme when transplanting, and like you tried it for rooting and found it to be no better or worse than anything else. The best luck I have seen is with a rooting compound like Roots Gel or willow water.

I just recently watched a video of Dr Bruce Bugbee, professor at Utah State University and founder of Apogee Instruments. It was a lecture on lighting and cannabis (USU has license to study cannabis) and one of the things they found was that cuttings actually root better under higher light intensity contrary to what “common” knowledge has been for decades.

Something I will be trying next time I take cuttings.
