Celt’s 2020 Grows

Presents from my Sis-in-Law the South African doctor (living in Canada) and smoking buddy. She picked these up in Australia on her trip there in Feb.

That's some fine craftsmanship!

I’m curious about your PC plant Celt, just to see what sort of pheno it is, if you ever get a chance to take a close up pic and description.

Sorry I missed this @Weaselcracker, but here is what I can share from what I have.

I really have no idea what phenos PC has, but the one I have I would guess to be Indica leaning but fairly balanced. I have never had pure Sativa or Indica, it’s always been hybrids since I started so I have never had “couchlock” or “a racy “high” from anything I’ve grown or bought. Having said that, I do find differences between Sativa dom or Indica dom strains/phenos.

So what I can tell you about the effects of the PC pheno I have is;

I find it a relaxing effect, both mind and body, so I tend to smoke it later in the evening. Helps calm the chaos between my ears and allows me to sleep for a few hours. That being a joint rolled between the size of a cigarette and a colt cigar but standard paper length.

To give you an idea of what I mean; hash, Blue Dream, Cluster Bomb and THC Bomb are things I consider smoking anytime of day. Oil I will also smoke any time of day but heavier doses in the evening.

As for the smell, I love the smell. I would describe it as not a pineapple smell but rather a musky, tropical, tart smell that makes you think of a rainforest plantation. This is the smell I get when it’s growing and when you bust up a bud. During cure and in the jar, the smell is faintly more of a sweet lime smell, it’s under whelming in the jar, the smell changes and explodes when you bust it up.

same bud, different sides.

I keep all my bud in glass jars with Bodeva 62 packs, and I find the bud density on par with Blue Dream and THC Bomb.

As for the plant and growth, I still haven’t figured that out. My second one, the one in the seed tent now, is a clone of the seed plant my buddy gave me. It is growing great and easy to work with/tend.

The mother was bluntly, “a bitch”. I fought with her over deficiencies/poor growth and could not figure her out. Flowering her was not a whole lot better but she produced great bud. Even her smell was not that great and did not smell like her daughter.

Wish I had pictures of the mom through veg and flower, comparing them to the daughter, even you would think they were two different strains/plants, not mother and clone.

Here are pictures of the daughter

Now, best I can say about bud structure is from the mother as this girl is fully seeded and the bud structure is very different. The seeded bud is more long and slender, as well as, very leafy. I am about a month from harvesting this girl and I have my doubts there will be much unseeded bud on her.

As I have pictures of Ms PC here, I’ll give a quick update on her. Aside from what I said above, I will cut the male parts sometime in the next couple days and hang in a secure place and see if I can collect some pollen for future breeding.

My opinion on the Pineapple Chunk I have, she’s just like any other woman I have ever had a relationship with:

You can read her, you know when she’s sad, mad, etc, but be god damned if she will ever give you a hint to as why she is upset.

While I was getting pics of Ms PC for Weaselcracker, I took some of the BD girls in the big tent.

They have had a few set backs but most are weathering it well. First was the accidental near drowning, whoops.

Then determined that the pond pump I use for watering is not capable of watering 18 plants evenly, worked fine for 5 big pots but not 18. I had planned to make a more advanced setup allowing me to water multiple tents independently requiring a more powerful pump which is now actHalley required. With me on leave, this will all have to wait till work resumes.

Then along comes my nemesis, the bane of organic soil growers, the fungus gnats decided to settle in and build an army, again, my fault for near drowning the girls. So armed with perlite and diatomaceous earth I marched into battle, no winner yet but I believe I have the upper hand, we will see how the week goes. If I win, the girls will go into flower next weekend.

Here they are

The numbers refer to the way they were numbered prior to up potting them for those watching.

Morning all, decided it was time for a quick update.

Momma PC in the seed tent is starting week 11 from flip and starting to look quite weary and ragged, if I was growing her out for bud, she would have been cut a couple weeks ago. I will likely let her go another week or so and then chop her.

In the big tent, the BD girls are coming along nicely and yesterday was day one of flip.

We still have a dwarf/stunted girl dead Center pot but gonna leave her grow and flower, the rest are getting too big to veg much longer.

The war with the gnats is still on going, buggers breed faster than I can kill them lol but I am off to the city today so will stop at the hydro shop, that I deal with when I need certain things, and pick up a 4 cuft bag of perlite, I am out. some will be used to layer the top of my pots to eradicate the little flying buzzards.

On another note, going through my seed collection the other day, I found a Gorilla Shizzle Auto that I got as a freebie at some point and decided to see if it would crack. Today she was above grade but had her helmet still on and glued. Little surgery later and got one half worked off, hoping she can push the other half herself. If tomorrow she’s still not opened her cotyledon leaves, back into the ER for more surgery.

Also have 50+ seed soaking from a THC Bomb that I had stressed the hell out of trying to cause it to hermie. There were a number of strains in the tent that round and I was doing it all “wrong” to see how much I could stress them. Messed with light schedule, 2 wks 12/12, a week of 15/9 then 14/10 for the remainder of flower. I also left the tent door wide open as there was always ambient light.

Of the 3 strains in there, Blue Dream, THC Bomb and Cluster Bomb (2 plants each if I remember) only one THC Bomb developed nanners and we found about 100 seed in various stages of development.

After having done this experiment, I am quite convinced that if you have good genetics, and strains not prone to being hermaphrodite, light leaks are hardly worth considering.

Thats about all for now fellow grower and friends, keep it green and may your stash be always well stocked :)

Hay Celt I just started a new journal. Its in my sig as second grow journal, Swing by if you get a chance. Things are looking Great in your garden by the way ….

Well I have been a little slack in updating this and as such all kinds of news including some weird and wonderful happenings ;)

This poor girl has gone WAY past her prime and was 11 weeks into flower this past Tuesday, 3 weeks longer than I would normally keep her. She is still a pain and hard to figure out, I am sure there are seed in her somewhere but I’ve only seen 2 that I am positive of, hope they are ripe as she is coming down today, tired of tending her and need the tent freed up.

She is the weird part of the news. The sprayed tops nearly grew themselves to death and I have cut most off in the past week, some had even started acting like they were revegging.

Next we have the BD girls in the big tent.

A number of the bigger plants also have whorled phyllotaxy with 2 and 3 limbs per node

More updates to come shortly, stay tuned ;)

As promised, here’s the more lol

Out door season is fast approaching here and aside from plants for myself, my son and a few friends requested plants so I decided to soak some seed Tuesday evening.

NOTE to self, next time you decide to pop seed, count them before dropping in water.

As it turns out, I dropped 166 seed in that cup, WHOOPS. The next morning, roughly half had cracked by evening I had 112 that were cracked and put into seedling trays. This morning, approx 60hrs later, 163 have sprouted and put into solo cups, that’s 98% germination within 60hrs. Guess I now have the 100 Blue Dream to do a proper pheno hunt lol

On the seed front, one of them was a twin, 1 seed 2 taps, I will be keeping this one aside.

Now the blue pot, back left, is the reason I need MrsPC evicted. It is a Gorilla Shizzle Auto I got as a freebie some time in the past and is about a week old now, she need more light than the nursery can give lol I am going to attempt a hempy style grow with her using the free Mega Crop I recently received.

May your gardens stay green and productive :)

Wow nothing like 160 new sprouts to set your work schedule for the day hey?

Thanks for posting about the PC. Sorry I haven’t responded earlier- things have been a little odd in the world. But I’m here to pollute your journal now with thoughts about the PC.

I still haven’t figured mine out. I have three phenos going. Two are easy, normal plants. It’s mostly one phenotype that takes up a lot of my time and effort. The original/first PC I sprouted. It also produces the best bud I grow, even though it’s one of the worst and most annoying plants I’ve ever dealt with. I still haven’t figured it out after almost five years of growing the same plant from clone. I’m working on self seeding it with STS. But it has taken almost 2 months for it to finally grow some nanners and start producing pollen and by now its almost run out of time in flowering. Will try again.

It actually looks quite similar to your variety although by the sound of it there are some differences. This phenotype is extremely sticky with a nasty glue-like effect when you touch it. Also extremely fumey and smelly. 10 or 11 weeks in flowering is generally just getting her to the very beginnings of the harvest window. The bud seems best after about 90 days, and I have flowered her for over 100 days before.
Getting the plant there is a problem though. All kinds of mysterious issues. You’d actually never think that such nice smoking bud would come from such a crappy looking plant.

I’ve found that the bud is still good even if I chop early. So that’s been my MO lately- let the plant run and chop before she goes to shit completely- as she always does. Trying to get the bud to full ripeness is usually a losing battle.

I think when I get a chance what I’m going to do is take about a dozen cuttings and try a bunch of different feeding schedules. Probably it’s some simple nutrient thing, but I find I am repeating the same mistakes or issues each time. Side by side tests can answer a lot of questions.

In terms of bud quality, though nothing else, this plant is definitely a keeper, out of all the plants I’ve grown. How is the smoke from yours?

Here’s a quite crappy pic of mine just starting the ‘I’m going to freak out and go for shit now!’ phase. Shows the distinctive skinny downward pointing leaves, star shaped budlets, and leafy bud formation. A very very bushy vinelike plant- grows like mistletoe and needs a lot of trimming.

Hope all’s well with you and the rest of the folks on this journal.
Cheers. :passitleft:
