Carnival: A Community Grow Experience

Those carnivals look as lovely as they (reportedly) taste and feel .
Sue, am I right in noticing that you are managing to flower in your tiny closet? Can you describe for me how you're doing that? How do you block out for the dark period? And do you have any air extraction going on or do you just open it up during lights on? I'm intrigued ....

I have two light-blocking curtains that I lower when the lights go off every evening.

IMG_136042.JPG

I have my alarm set to go off at 8 AM so I can get out here and open the curtains up for the day. During the day they sit just as you see them, wide open to the room. Any air circulation comes from the air conditioner on the other side of the room or the window right beside the tiny closet.

IMG_135235.JPG

There's no filtration for this space, and I don't have a circulating fan for it either. It's maintained like this, producing harvest after harvest for the past three years. It's meant to be an open auto space, as you know from reading my earlier journals. The lights were put together as 3500K to support the entire life cycle of autos.

When the the plants aren't six feet tall I can make use of the side spaces too, for clones and seedlings, freeing up other space on the veg shelf. It's quite the versatile growing area.

Glad to help 420. :battingeyelashes:

Just stopped to post an update on Carn 4.2. She's now at Day 93, 27 days since flip. I think she might be my prettiest Carnival so far. :slide:

See why we continue to grow them? :dreamy:

Carnival (48 days in flower) 44"tall (16" coming in + 28" of stretch)

She has 5 main colas - a bit fluffy

One Carnival cola this size

I also have:
A Carnival girl in late veg ready to take this one's place on harvest day
A Carnival clone placed into a 1 gallon pot a week ago
A Carnival cutting in the cloner that I plan to put in a perlite hempy one she develops roots.

They look fluffy now Rad, but they take at least 70 days in flower, so she has plenty of time to pack them more densely. Four Carnivals running at once Rad, you're starting to look like Graytail and I. :laughtwo:

Hard to have too much Carnival on hand. Do you have any of the Devil's Carnival seeds yet? Are you interested in acquiring any? I'm beginning to suspect it's more potent than either parent. Lately, when I turn to reach for a nug jar it's the DC I'm reaching for. Two hits can be devastating at the right time of the day. :laughtwo:

A quick pictorial update of the Carnival elements of my garden.

Carnival 4.3 went home with Jgrowlove this week. I overstocked the grow and there was no way to keep them all. Thank goodness I have member neighbors with an eagerness to expand. :laughtwo: It made it even better that he'd already grown Carnival, so he knows how to get a good harvest. Hopefully he'll share with me, but that's not really necessary.

Carnival 4.4 (Day 34) got upcanned yesterday. She'll be part of my GROWant sponsored grow that'll start on Sunday.

IMG_233626.JPG

Don't be misled by her apparent fragility. She's got a powerfully strong spirit, and her roots were surprisingly well-developed. She's bound to be a stunner. :battingeyelashes:

Carnival 4.5 (Day 17) No roots yet.

This satisfies me - at least one in each stage of development. That's the flow I'm working to establish. I just keep adding too many plants. :laughtwo:

Interestingly enough, my pheno (on clone 5 or 6 I think) is done in about 8 weeks. At that point she is usually 15-20% amber.:circle-of-love::peace:

Really? What lights and schedule are you using Dave?

12/12. They are at 18/6 through veg and the flower tent is 12/12. Just got a new Mars-Hydro Pro II 320. Can't wait to see how much better it performs over my 900. The 900 was getting 3-4oz per plant over the last several cycles. :circle-of-love::peace:

I'm lucky to get 2 ounces per plant right now Dave. You're pulling my dream harvests. :laughtwo: :high-five:

My first Carnival harvest was from seed and went 75 days under 11/13. She was fully cloudy with no amber but her pistils were fully aged. I also thought her buds were fluffy at around 45 days.

She came in a 4 and 1/4 oz and it seemed like half that weight arrived after the 8 week mark.

You can't tell from the photos but her trichomes are about 80% cloudy with mostly fresh pistils

Time for another update on the Carnival crew in my garden.

Carnival 4.5. (Day 30, 4 days from potting) This was the cutting started by Jgrowlove the first time he came visiting. :battingeyelashes:

IMG_326514.JPG

She just made it up to the lower limits of the light, and has quite a way to go, but she's here and happy to be part of the lineup.

IMG_326622.JPG

Carnival 4.4 (Day 47, 14 days from potting) Remember last month, when she was the fragile one? She's in the sponsored tent, under the GROWant, and loving every minute of it. She's already putting out three-lobed leaves. :laughtwo: Never had one do that so quickly.

IMG_329114.JPG

IMG_329215.JPG

Carnival 4.2 (Day 112, flip + 46) My beauty.... :dreamy: Good golly, what a lovely specimen she turned out to be, eh?

IMG_326211.JPG

I was inattentive and overloaded her a while back with too many nutes. That burned her leaf tips. So close to getting it right. :laughtwo:

IMG_326316.JPG

She still makes me gasp in appreciation every morning.

IMG_326413.JPG

Carnival 4.1 (Day 132, flip + 72) Within a week of harvest, she's steadily flushing the trichomes to cloudy.

IMG_326724.JPG

The apical cola is quickly turning the pistils.

IMG_326820.JPG

All the rest of the colas have begun to pull the pistil hairs back.

IMG_326910.JPG

I can only hope the buds are as dense as they appear. She smells incredible!

IMG_327014.JPG

IMG_3272.PNG

Beginnings of amber. She'll start to be flushed on the 10th and come down on the 15th.

IMG_328029.JPG

It's astounding how many trichomes are hidden underneath, and how many this chemovar can pack onto a surface.

Ok, I'm all worn out now. :laughtwo: I'm calling it a night and catching some sleep eye.

Goodnight.

 I thought I'd posted the harvest.

Carnival 4.1 came down in Tuesday. She lived 137 days, 77 of them under flowering lighting.

In the end I had 25 grams of popcorn trimmings to add to my breakfast omelettes.

There were 118 grams of bud and stem split between the dehydrator and bags for the fridge.

When I get final weights I'll post them.

I have another coming down in about a week.

It's not obvious at all that I love this chemovar, is it? :laughtwo:

I harvested a Carnival this week

MoC Carnival -after 68 days in the flower stall - 44" tall

20171011_125203-1.jpg

She was done.. tired branches, mostly aged pistils, 100% cloudy trichomes.

20171011_125213-1.jpg

The top cola was the least ripe - still 100% cloudy

20171011_125318-1.jpg

She was immediately replaced in the flower stall, with her daughter cloned 68 days ago when she went into flower.

Carnival second generaton clone with 17" high x 21x21" canopy
replaces Carnival first generaton clone (who was16" high x 23x20 when she went into the flower stall)

Carnival harvest hanging to dry (I quick dried 8 grams to a smokable level - 3 hours in the dehydrator)

Well done Rad! :high-five: Looks great hanging.

Three hours will do a quick dry? Do you use smaller buds for that super-fast access? There's nothing I enjoy more than fresh Carnival. I just posted how I smoked a small bud from the harvest that'd been drying on top of the quantum boards, and then detailed the kitchen appliances again, among a long list of other tasks that suddenly found themselves being completed. :laughtwo:

Mine have been running about the same time, but the apical colas are a little beyond yours. Do you avoid the amber trichomes too? LOL!

I only quick dry the smaller buds - so the main harvest stays tastier with a slower dry. 3 hours isn't dry dry. The cannabis in the bowl needs to be relit every toke. It is a good balance between smokable and too crispy. 2 hours is enough for the tiny popcorn :)

My wife has been smoking Carnival for 3 days. The living room (the left parlor) and her office (the right parlor) are sparkling clean and beautifully arranged. The treasures in her curio cabinet look like a finely done store window display. She has gone through and sorted things so that she has giveaway boxes of 1950s paper dolls, etc. She sold her 1830s love seat to the neighbor lady with the mansion - LOL.

Yes, she avoids the amber trichomes. But I sneak 5-10% in on her sometimes if the buds don't look finished :)

She can't wait for me to harvest another plant so she can keep all the Carnival to herself :)

Ahhhh.... a woman after my own heart. I'll admit to keeping the best buds for myself. :cheesygrinsmiley: I don't know if it's possible to grow too much Carnival. Lol! My home falls into a wonderful orderliness when it's my main consumable. :battingeyelashes:

The timing was perfect - I just finished the 8 week? rehab of the Living Room, so it was rearrange the furniture and clean up the dust time anyway!

I have one Carnival in flower and two in veg. I need to figure out my bucket count that fits in veg before I add more Carnival. Probably by the weekend :)
