yeah, i was tought the bootleg way Captain.lol
My way works for sure. Only problem is thinking im losing too much yield.

Im thinking about making like Joe mentioned above, maybe try that way first.

You may get less yield doing it my way but it will be much more pure
Depends on what you want out of your oil, My way you can vape it & it will not leave a bunch of black crud behind

If you just want to eat it than their might be some benefits from a full extraction of plant waxes, lipids & chlorophyl. I don't know
I know I would rather eat the honey oil & govt thc or cbd oil is not black green

The majority of my extractions have been with trim leaf
I have excess bud to try this year, so I may weight it to see what I get back

I bought 120 proof Everclear here (highest you can get in CA) and ran it through an alcohol distiller twice and got it to 170 proof.

Then I tripped over the cord and spilled it all over the courtyard.

Question @shed does the alcohol cool down much when it comes out of that distiller?

Good thing there was no open flames or a spark around when that happened

It comes out at ~170ºF and cools down pretty quickly in the collection container. Just depends on ambient temps.

Pure ethanol has a boiling temp of ~173ºF, so if you can find an electric hotplate with a temp gauge that would help (if you don't care about the cost of ethanol). Or point a temp gun at whatever you're using now and dial in 170º and mark it on the control so you'll have a ballpark for next time.

You don't want to or need to get it any higher than vaporization point 160 -180 f
also like water can only get so hot. till most of the solvent is evaporated, higher temps will scorch your product on the bottom
temps won't change the yield

It also depends on what you make it out of Indica (sleep) sativa (energetic)
Although if you ingest too much you might not be able to function. It's much more of a creeper

Low and slow is the way to go. Best one I’ve ever done was left slightly covered in an outbuilding, no flame, just left it for 2 months until alcohol had naturally evaporated
