Cannafan's Perpetual Grow - Where Everything Changes - Autos - Photos - Seeds & More!

Re: Cannafan's Perpetual Grow - Where Everything Changes - Autos - Photos - Seeds & M

Thanks for the info on grafting Canna and PJ, so if a male base is ok , then I take it an auto base might work also? Thanks again :)

Now there's a question and a half. LOL Never thought about that, so I went looking and saw some people had tried it...but I saw nothing specific on results or fails.
What would be your desired end result to do this? Lighting and flowering times, harvest increase...?
The Auto would grow and flower at it's preset schedule, if grafted to a photo, I'm wondering myself how that would work. The graft would have to heal quickly.
This raises a lot of questions, and I'm not educated enough on the inner workings to understand how it would work. LOL

Hey Peejay, whatcha think?

LA, if you have reading time there might be something in this series of threads that will help you out

Cheers my friend, I've no reason other than I've got an auto base coming right up and its either that or my male plant, as want to get messing asap! I've no clue why I'm giving grafting a go other than the thought of having something new to try and I want a mom with say 6 strains on tap. Mostly though i just get bored to quickly and need something new to try :)

OMG, we are too much alike. Boredom is a killer. LOL

I thought about grafting a while back too, but didn't have anything I could try it with yet.

One of these days. And I'll probably be following one of your grafting journals by then.....

Re: Cannafan's Perpetual Grow - Where Everything Changes - Autos - Photos - Seeds & M

Sorry to butt in here but getting ready to try to start a grow journal but can't find how to instructions. Would someone be kind enough to tell me where I can find the "how to". Thank you. Dan

Lobo I'm not at my computer and I haven't a clue how to do much of anything on this stupid phone..{not sure it's the phone } but Canna will know and probably have it posted up before I finish pecking this out...:circle-of-love:

Thank you much Glimmergrass. I will be spending some time reading those threads and getting my ducks in a row so I hope to start it right. I will probably start up in about one week to ten days. Thanks again to all on this site. Dan

Go ahead and start your journal as soon as you know how.

Sweetsue has just reached 50 pages and her first seeds just broke ground.

Hi Dan, glad to see glimmergrass got you all set on the links to starting a journal. :thumb:
When you get it going, be sure to post us the link here so we can pop over to it. Then we can help you with adding it to your signature so others can see it.

Exciting to start a new journal!

:cheer:

Gosh, I have no idea really and base my answers on experience with grafted fruit trees. I have a friend who has 6 apple trees that produce over 70 different varieties of apples as well as many varieties of pears on a couple of pear trees she's grafted over time. It's pretty cool. When she encounters a variety or phenotype of apple or pear she finds interesting in somebody else's garden or orchard she gets a cut and grafts it to one of her own trees.

Apples trees for fruit cultivation are all grafted. The genetic miasma in apples is crazy. If you plant an apple seed there is no telling if it will produce desirable fruit. There are just way too many phenotype possibilities from a single seed. However, if you plant an apple seed and graft a cut from a tree that produces nice sweet fruit to it you get a tree that produces the same nice sweet fruit from all the growth out of the graft. Any growth from the original root base is pruned off. A typical apple tree you'd purchase from a nursery is a single graft on rootstock selected for things like the overall size of the tree you want to grow, disease resistance, etc. Or, it is a tree grown from a cutting.

I guess one way to think about it is that when you graft to the main base you are doing the same thing as planting in soil except the base plant is the growing medium. Grafting to the base is more or less the same thing as putting a clone in dirt only you are planting it on the rootstock of a different tree. The rootstock does not alter the genetics of what is grafted to it but can infuence the overall size and disease resistance of the tree as a whole.

I have no idea if it works the same with cannabis but I expect it does. Male, female, auto - it shouldn't make any difference rootstock wise. An auto grafted onto photo rootstock would flower no matter what the lightcycle was. A photo grafted to auto rootstock would only flower when the light schedule was cut back - at least intuitively that is what makes sense.

If you were to successfully graft multiple strains/ phenos to one rootstock you would have to manage things like the different growth rates of the grafts and there would still be dominant branches and all that. If anyone is up to that part of the challenge it would be you, LA. No doubt about that.

Just a little update here, I have to say this Fast n Vast is probably the tiniest sprout I have ever had. Hard to tell from the picture, but she is very tiny:

I have the bathroom all set up with the Mars Hydro LED with the walls lined with mylar for max reflection from the sides. This is where the two Autos will grow. Maybe 3......still deciding.

I'm still waiting on the Blue Blood and the Pineapple express seeds to pop completely. They are in the damp paper toweling. Blue Blood is open with a tiny tap showing, that's it at the moment.

She shouldn't take long to get HUGE. She is Fast.....and Vast!!!! :) :peace:

Re: Cannafan's Perpetual Grow - Where Everything Changes - Autos - Photos - Seeds & M

I've harvested about a dozen mature seeds off the SheHeShe today. Despite how loooooong this took during this original Colloidal silver experiment, I guess I could call it a success on the end result. I turned a female plant to male, then it turned back to female, yet it still kept going to self pollinate with nanners and seeds maturing.
Now I'm going to cut a couple of the branches off that have immature seeds on them and place them in a glass of water to see if the seeds keep maturing.

I'll post some pics up tomorrow.
