Can You Grow Weed In Pro-Mix With Only Osmocote Plus, Outdoor & Indoor, And Tap Water?

This whole concept started with a mint plant. I love some Mojitos but the cost of fresh mint is crazy. $4 for a couple sprigs, so I usually grow my own. Last year I was feeding the mint plant my "FN Weed Feed", but it found it a bit problematic. Since my mint plant is outdoors, just about the time I'd get ready to feed it fertilizer, it would rain. This year I planted my mint plant in a 5 gallon fabric container with some Osmocote Plus Outdoor and Indoor. It's done so well that I thought "Could I do that same with a weed plant? Lets find out!

The Mint Plant

11 days ago, a Zkittlez autoflower from Nirvana broke ground. She is our test subject. Its not a huge strain, rather shortish. I plan on it going outside on my back deck eventually as my primary grows will be occupying my tents.

She started off with just a few grams of Osmocote Plus Outdoor and Indoor mixed into her Solo Cup of Pro-Mix Premium Organic Garden Mix (the cheap stuff from Wal-Mart. The Osmocote Plus Outdoor and Indoor can be sourced there too.

Here she is at Day 11 just getting upcanned into her 5 gallon home. I mixed in 4.5 Tsp of the Osmocote with 5 gallons of recycled Pro-Mix. It looks like she's in a mud pie right now because 1) I wanted to rinse the Pro-Mix good to rid it of any built up salts from the previous grow, and 2) I wanted to activate the slow release Osmocote granules.

You can see her stock adult counterpart next to her. We'll use that as a guideline for the effectiveness of the Osmocote Plus.

Friggin hell yea I'm in for this....so I try to grow with as minimal additives as possible....so far I'm down to FF soil and geoflora as nutes.... I'm very curious to see how this fairs.

Happy growin growmie

Since we've discovered there are a few different Osmocote + mixes, can you post that pic of the bag?

Yes, you can. There's a thread (and a few journals). You may end up adding a thing or two, later on.

She looks great - mine is about the same age but not near that compact - mine are always real leggy. This isn't a recent pic.

Needs more (or closer) light? I like your rubber band cage. In the past, if that happened to me - and I didn't simply add more soil to bury part of the stem - I would cut a disposable plastic drinking straw to length, slice it open lengthwise, and place it around the stem (with the bottom of the splint in the soil). That worked, but putting it on the stem was a RPitA, and I broke a couple.

I tend to give mine more light than commonly suggested for their age. Mines currently getting about 25k lux.

A stoner in need of a solution will give MacGyver a run for his money.

Day 16

Still nothing to do. I'll have to decide if I'm letting her go au naturel, or if I'll top her. I normally top around day 21 on autos so I'll see what she looks like then.

She looks so happy and hey who’s flower bombing her? Lol

An adult Zkittlez seen in post #4 of this thread is to her right. She's fading out and will be harvested on Wednesday at the latest.
