Can Republicans stop legalization?

I do want to stand corrected by the way. I stated that Bernie was an Independent, which he is, but he did run under the democratic ticket which technically qualifies him as a Democrat. He stated that the reason behind doing so was because only 2 parties actually get any coverage during the primaries and any 3rd party candidate would be left out of all of the debates. Since his intention is not to split the vote for the presidential election but to win the presidential election he felt he had no other option then to run under either the Dem or the Rep ticket.

Personally I do not see a 4 candidate election in the future, but it is quiet possible that a 3 candidate election could happen. I see that happening one of two situations. One Donald does not get the GOP nomination. I could see him running as an independent. The other case I could see where there may be a third candidate would be if Donald gets the GOP and Hillary gets the DNC nomination. I would hope to see Bernie running as an independent. Though he may not only because he would fear splitting the Dem vote and having Donald win.

Hopefully people wake up and it is a landslide, but if it isn't, it will be more of the same for the next 4 to 8 years.
I can not completely say I blame the super rich. If I could afford to buy the media in America, they would be saying what I wanted them to say, reporting what I felt was important and if it only cost me less then say 10% of my accumulative wealth to buy out the government, the government would be run the way I think is best. I just wish they would be a little less greedy with how they run the show.

I suppose in a Academic sense you're right, if one has the means can one really be faulted for taking action? The reality however is that the super rich, with a handful of exceptions of course throughout history, have always attempted to maintain the status quo, which is that they remain in power either overtly or covertly. I suppose open till The past 30 or 40 years, no one really minded because the super rich kept it very low-key and the average citizen had a standard of living that they could be justifiably content with. At some point though either the super rich either over stepped are stopped keeping it low-key and the general public has since taken notice. The thing that really concerns me about wealth in politics, particularly in the current times I am seeing echoes of pre revolutionary France as detailed in A tale of two cities by Charles dickens and given the under current of resentment that's been going on for the past 8 years due to Wall Street, housing, and the recession I sometimes get worried when things like Ferguson happen. I breathed a sigh of relief when all that happened when Chicago released the tape showing the cop unloading his gun into the 17 year old was peaceful protests and I know I wasn't the only one.

I hope whoever takes office is equipped and able to handle this forming powder keg before it's too late.

Also though Bernie Sanders is running on the democratic ticket, he is and has always been an Independent. To my knowledge he has not officially joined the democratic party but I could be mistaken. Would not be the 1st time and I doubt it would be my last time if I am wrong.

According to the Bernie For President web site, he is a Democrat. You cannot be on the ticket, in the debates or in the primaries on either side if you are not a party member. He may lean Independent, like Trump leans Independent, and Joe Liberman leaned Independent, but they are or were all running on a party platform. Both Bernie and Trump could run as Independents if they lose in the primaries.

As for the most nominees on the presidential ballots, there have been as many as 4 many times. In 1860 there were 4 on the ballot, including Lincoln. There were 4 again in 1896 and in 1912, 1924, 1948, and 1996.

Okay so 5 needs to be the record... I'm announcing my candidacy for being the next president of the United States of America!
I will run as an independent on the following platforms:
1. Converting are atomic bomb's to atomic bongs
2. The hunt down and... *ahem* polite escort off the planets for all Mon santo higher ups.
3. The development of a national cannabis strain.
4. All 9/11 first responders to receive lifetime healthcare at the expense of the Bush and Cheney families.
5. Adding a constitutional amendment guaranteeing every American citizen the right to grow, buy and sell cannabis, hemp and all resulting products.
6. Making December 23 national Festivus day.
7. Revealing who really killed JF... I'm sorry I've just been told I only have $1000 left in my campaign chest so therefore I am throwing my support behind kryptonian generals Zod!

I'm pretty new at this. I've been reading all things 420 for years. OG, I remember Nixon also, voted for McGovern. Most of the movements then were anti-war. A lot of us were too young to vote. Right around this time the Congress changed the voting age to 18. (old enough to fight old enough to vote.) The Northern California growers were just starting. Almost all the cannabis we had came from Mexico and Central & South America. Panama Red, Acapulco Gold and others. Ah the good ol days. Then began the War on Drugs.

Now its Feb. 2016. We stand on a precipice and can not get complacent NOW.

I'm a registered Republican but right now following Bernie Sanders. Not crazy that he's a Socialist, as I'm a smaller Fed Govt person. But remember Obama promised changes also. Started backsliding day 1. We'll see. I really don't want to see the DEA after this wonderful plant anymore. They have enough on their plates with all the drugs that can do serious harm.

I know that each of knows 5 other people (smokers). We need to get each one registered to Vote. Then those 5 should go and help 5 others register. It gets bigger & bigger and with Fed and important State Elections coming up we have to start now to get the votes out.

Sorry for my long rant. Time for a bowl.

PL Green, would you mind if I ask you why you're throwing your support behind Sandra's? The only reason I ask is that a lot of the Republicans that I know are saying that they're not going to vote for Sanders for the exact reasons that you stated. As for Obama, yeah he did start backsliding, on a somewhat selfish level I'm glad that he backslid on Guantánamo Bay, I live not 50 my files from Thompson Federal penitentiary where he wanted to move all of the detainees too and needless to say a lot of us from Chicago didn't take kindly to that idea, although that being said the do-nothing Congress bog him down to the point that I'm sure you we got a fraction of what do you want to Don. I doubt that Bernie Sanders if he is elected isn't going to receive the same cold shoulder but the important thing is to get the ball rolling

I'm normally registered as an Independent, but changed so I could vote in primary. I figure get the laws changed then if we don't like him as president elect a new one. I know its strange but we have been fighting for legalization for so long its sort of nice to feel like we might actually have a chance to win.

A lot of the candidates hav said they will legalize it to some degree but as far as I know sanders was the first one to say it with the rest seeing how big it is to Americans and because he is the first want to say it I'm confident he's with you if not the only ones that would actually make good on that campaign promise. Hilary has said that she would legalize it in some form after she sees how the states wrestle with it ( typical on the fence response ) but considering that a good chunk of her donators are coming from the pharmaceutical industry, I think it's pretty obvious that that on the fence answer would turn into an indefinite may be for the entire length of her presidency up until the very end or, is truly has been demonstrated by council of presidents, it just never happens.

Would be nice if there was a law in place that said presidential candidates can't make promises they know they won't be able to keep With real ramifications to their time in office if it's found that they made a false promise . How that would be actually were good and enforced is anyone's guess of course, and really Sanders is no more obligated than the rest of them to actually make good on any of his promises, but out of all of them he seems to be the one that's most genuine shoes that he talks about.

Plus as millennial, I hate Hillary Clinton all the more with her recent ageist comments, which I'm sure is coming from the fact that she didn't get the 08 nomination, she'sr always struck me as a woman that holds onto grudges. She's deathly making the same mistake that mitt Romney made by saying on camera ( and us it's more or less on the record ) things that groups of voters will take offense to, she either is confident she has a large enough baby boomer constituency to outmatch the millennial's or she let her anger get the better of her. in any case, New Hampshire will show how the voters feel about her, after all the BS in Iowa (I say there's too much shady crap with that one) I'm not counting it other than it took the wind out of Trumps camp:

No more Bush's or Clintons. They are part of the political problem. Just watch out for who you vote for because the next president could slap down everything we have achieved so far. Look over your shoulder, is that the DEA you hear?

Yeah, I can't trust the others in regards to cannabis legalization because they all did it after Sanders said he would do it and they saw how big of a resonator that was, although that being said Sanders is equally not obligated to fulfill that promise if he gets elected, although the figures the first one to say it does give me a few extra credit points, LOL

Thought occurred to me in regards to Hillary Clinton just now, recall reading that during the Clinton era, it wasn't uncommon that if Bill Clinton said no to something that they could take it to Hillary Clinton and she'd say yes, during the time we fight and we had to presidents, One in name and one acting vicariously. If Hillary Clinton were elected, would have the exact same situation just with her being in the driver seat and Bill acting vicariously and that part in particular is a disturbing yet elaborate workaround to the two-term limit.

I don't know maybe its just I don't like her. Women have wanted a woman in the White House for decades but I just can't get past her attitude. I think she would just be a female Obama, only she has balls. If she didn't she wouldn't be in politics. She has always acted privileged and that she can do what she wants. Maybe its just I don't like her.

I don't think it matters anymore. Clinton pretty much just handed the democratic nomination to Bernie Sanders When her feminist supporters said some truly offensive things about women who won't vote for Hillary. I honestly thought it was a fake article at first because how could someone that long in politics ( Hillary and her to feminist friends ) even remotely think the comments they made would get them anywhere but further behind Sanders.

Considering whom the comments were aim at, mainly younger voters, I E millennial's I have no further doubt in my mind that Hillary has a problem with the millennial generation and, knowing my generation, a lot of us arnt going to take kindly to that and I won't be surprised if a few call her out on it in a future debate similar to how one asked why millennial's find her to be on trustworthy And arrogant, she just proved the point. The next few debates should truly be interesting if she tries to do damage control, considering that she's been panicking since well before Iowa, and sure the fact that it was technically a tie ( I still say that there was enough irregularities in the count that Sandra probably won the state) she's clearly downright panicking now.

I'm done bashing Clinton. Don't like crooks so enough. Now because I live in Kansas I have to deal with the idiots that run this state. Right now they are at least looking at lowering the prison terms and fines but not much more than that. With Colorado legalized, Missouri set to decriminalize in 2017 and now Nebraska looking at medical maybe we will stand a chance (someday). Remember Kansas never ratified the 21st Amendment. As bad as our economy is in this state you would think the ultra conservatives would be looking at the Millions of dollars in tax revenue. But NO, Reefer Madness still reigns in the Heartland.

The problem is that the Republicans rely too much on the religious right voting block Who believe it's their duty both as citizens of the United States but also as fundamentalists to ignore the concept of separation of church and state and vote in line with church dogma rather than what's actually in the bible in full context (as a post what your stock my does, cherry picking bits and pieces out of the Bible that they can then bend to whatever they want it to be). Sadly, I know firsthand what that sort of fundamentalism will lead people to do, for me away life saving Natural drugs like marijuana when they're dying with cancer just because Of the legal status of the drug. Better to die in utter agony then cure their body with something that is scientifically proven to fight cancer and live long enough to see their coming grandchild...

Hopefully when it is legalized at the federal level, many more states will just go with the flow Rather than this patchwork bull crap that is propping up more and more now, frankly I'm pretty tired of my home state with it's so cold medical marijuana program that is deliberately been set up to fail.

Ah, the bible belt. I really do love em but I read somewhere (years ago) that Jesus's belt was made out of hemp. It's been very nice speaking with you.

I call cannibis ( I guess all species including hemp) one of God's cheat codes. I mean how many other plants you would consider medicinal have as many uses as our favorite plant? It's a real shame to no end that the majority of christians in America have abandoned the literal thousands if not millions of God's gifts like cannibis and other very easy to grow plants in favor of things like man-made medicines, clothing, etc. and even violently reject it in favor of very info prior and even dangerous medicines. I mean cannibis helps lower your hearttate, stress, afrodidac, cancer fighter, sleep aid... The man made medicines for those you can't even safely mix.

Did you watch the primary in NH. Oh my God. Go Bernie. After the horrible words from M. Albright the numbers show 43% of women voted for him. And the slap in the face to Christie. Remember he would unleash the DEA again.

Yeah I'm still in disbelief that Clintons friends actually thought that would fly with women. I think this election cycle is sending a loud and clear message that young voters arnt going to vote in lock step with either party. As much as I hate Trump I think if it comes down to Trump and Sanders it will send an absolute message to the establishment that the game has fundamentally changed.

I guess what scares me even more though is if you follow both sides debates, I saw something that reminded me a lot of another guy who ran for the head of the state back in the late 30's not in America but in Europe. He used hatred for others as a platform to get elected and I see a bit of a correlation between then and now. Blame a specific race or religion for your problems and give the people someone to hate. Hate the Mexicans because they are flooding our southern borders and are a burden to our inter-stucture. Hate the Muslims because they are terrorists and want to kill Americans and what we stand for.
Now change that from Mexicans and Muslims to Jews, blacks and gays and who would I be referring to. Kind of scary when you look at it that way. Just saying.

Any platform based on hatred and bigotry is not a good platform I believe in my humble opinion.

I been saying the same thing for a year now ... and I get the eye roll every time I point it out ... but ...

There is a LOT of similarities between now and 1930's Europe. A lot.
But, expand on your picture a little bit The similarities between Trump and Hitler are there, but then .. who is Stalin? Remember Hitler and Stalin hated each other. They were both communists, Hitler was a Fascist. And Stalin was a Socialist. Who do we know that is proud to be a Socialist and is running for a leadership position?

Life under Joe Stalin was miserable. Private ownership was outlawed, millions of people starved. Prisons were filled up with dissidents.

Personally, I am not looking forward to a USA led by either Hitler or Stalin.
I'm glad I am as old as I am.
Seems like people these days don't study history.
I am glad for my private school education.

I feel bad for my grand children.

It is an easy "concept" to ignore, as it doesn't exist. There is no constitutional or statutory requirement to SEPARATE church and state. There is a requirement that the state not establish an official religion. God has always been a part of the USA, and always will.
