CA215's 2014 Outdoor Container Garden

Harvest everything, waste nothing! I like that
I have been trying to lessen my imprint as much as possible. :Namaste: Being wasteful is not my style.
Compost bin! im wondering how it will turn out as I toss my trim and nugs, most organic waste into it.

Awesome start there CA, look forward to seeing what you make of them and really love the bubble hash will have to get a personal tutorial from you on that one , can't wait to get some of mine put int he ground , Peace and happy OD to you, OG

Thanks OG :high-five:
I am gearing up for a flowering supersoil mix for these girls, thinking I need to clone them out, root and flower to see how they perform before growing them out too massive. They are supposedly kens cut gdp, if they are not up to par we will be making some great juiced canna ice cubes.. same with the atf. Also getting a space cleared for a few more seedlings in the week to come :Namaste:
I envy your in ground grows brother :thumb: will have to meet up and shoot the shit! Positive vibes your way OG

Same here CA I guess I need some tips on how to make a fine bubble hash, I've tried BHO a couple of times i've made myself but the taste is still to chemical... bubble hash is like pure thc no chemicals at all.

I love how easy and safe bubble hash is. No guess work, using 0ppm ro water, making sure you are being clean tidy and sterile, correct order of bags, and the cold. You're set :Namaste: Although I love beating the material in the bags I am going to pick up a bubble machine this year for some whole plant runs :) if you need any info let me know and I will be sure to give you a helping opinion dani :Namaste:

Here are a few shots of the gdp this morning before my camera died. Looks like she is still wanting to flower out. She stinks of pungent sweet skunky greenery. Attempting to keep her low-profile.

Great info CA, more precise questions if I may;

How cold has to be the water in order to extract the most thc?
Do you just mix the leaf matter by hand or you use a blender?
Regular ice or Dry ice?
Would distilled water work?

thanks buddy

:thumb:

PS: that GDP is super tight, the buds are gonna be amazing.

How cold has to be the water in order to extract the most thc? Cold as possible. I put filtered ice into my reverse osmosis water 50/50 ratio give or take, and then put that 5 gal bucket into a deep freezer for another hour or so while I prep and clean my area. Ill even throw the bubble bags into the freezer. The colder the entire process the better the end product.

Do you just mix the leaf matter by hand or you use a blender? I prefer using fresh herb right from the plant. Literally harvesting that day, processing the buds from the stem and little minor stems I also remove. All the buds get trimmed down to small popcorn bottom of the bag style nugglets. I then put this into mason jars, right into the deep freezer. From what I have read you can wait 24 hours and the trichomes should be frozen but I would wait a couple/few days to be sure and make sure the freezer is nice and chilly.

Regular ice or Dry ice? I go down to the local market and pick up a few big bags of the filtered water ice cubes, regular ice.

Would distilled water work? Yeah I would believe distilled water would work as long as you know it is clean. No way will I ever use my tap it runs around 200-300ppm+, all that crap will get caught up in your hash which you don't want to be consuming. I use my 3 stage RO filter which tests at 0ppm every time so far.

She is a nice little specimen isn't she! It will be cool to see how she reacts here when she goes back into vegetative state :Namaste: Thanks for the kind words Danish :thumb:

Man this stuff is gold, I wrote all down all excited like its a new recipe I wanna try out, I just have to go buy the ingredients now. Thanks a lot for sharing into such details CA, I know some people don't like sharing what they know or have a hard time giving details.
I will for sure try this out as soon as I harvest all the indoor ladies.

You rock bro

Everything I've learned is based on info already available on the internet I had just taken bits and pieces from everyone's process and made what best fits me. I have just only begun making hash but believe perfecting the technique is as easy as pie, as long as all goes as planned and you stay thinking. The whole process boils down to the same aspect, freeze the trichomes and break them off with the ice, strain the water, voila ;) just some extra steps to ensure you get top quality, the microplaning, making sure the hash dries properly, and we can't forget the cleanliness, cleanliness, cleanlines, it is so easy to get any type of fuzz or hair in your hash. I also have a gallon pump spray that I use only for hash making it helps you collect the hash into a nice glob prior scooping. I documented a hash process on one of my old journals.. I will find the link and post here soon. Or, I will just have to do another little run;) If you have any more questions just ask :Namaste: :high-five:

Girls are looking super lush there CA! The picture of health. Really good to see we were both able to keep the sage n sours going, under the same conditions none the less ;) The outcome will certainly be interesting..

:Namaste:

They are beginning to cannibalize/pull from down low I am thinking they are going to be needing a top dressing of some guanos today, also going to prep a beneficial tea as I have been slacking on applying one to the yard, been over a month or so. The sage seedling is looking great although seems to be on the runt sid, and is just now getting out of the 3 leaf funk. We will she how she proceeds :)

It has still been getting abit cold, jumped the gun this year but I believe they will all pull through. The atf is purpling abit at her bud sites and is producing a slight cover of trichomes.. I would assume she is stressed with the weather. The sweet cindys are looking super strong, they are also putting off a great stench at their young age. Thinking the hog in ground is producing some seeds, going to give her a little more in depth look today as when I was reviewing the shots I noticed a nice brown seed on her, can ya find it;)? She may be getting pulled today. Here are some shots for everyones viewing pleasure :Namaste: Photo update 4-17

coolest part is the infant praying mantis! How cool is that!

They seem to be attracted to the cannabis, haven't seen them on anything else  Works perfect for me. I plan on also buying a couple rounds of massive lady bug colonies this year during the month leading up to flower + throughout flower :)

Here are some shots of the autoflower, peaked out to see her looking very happy enjoying the nice gusts and warm sunshine decided to take a couple shots:

Yeah gotta get those glory shots in while the angles are just right! :thumb:

Excited to see this, refresh my memory, when did you place the mantis egg case into the environment? When I did it I got an egg-case that required 3-4 weeks or more of warm - high temperatures for them to hatch in the hundreds. For me, they ate everything and had nothing else to eat so a lot of them ate each other or left, the 3-4 that remained got pretty big, but nothing as big as OMM's lol. By far the ladybugs are one of the greatest investments, even if they all die, they're cheap enough for me to keep buying them and there's so many there's enough for the ENTIRE garden. Sounds like those praying mantises are awaiting dinner over there when the LB's get dropped off, maybe you'll get some big ones. Looks for sure like you have the same exact species that I got, assuming you got them from OSH :) Anyway, excellent glory shots, I think you might agree when I say its gonna be hard for us to replicate the same results as last year

Cheers and Good Growing mate :cheer:

She was looking so happy with the almost tacoing leaves, went out and looked this morning, she looks so cold and asleep, leaves all laying at her sides, sleep well little one

I have not introduced any predators into the garden yet. These mantis are magically appearing around the cannabis plants.. This is my thoughts... In that greenhouse tarp "thing" I have in the back, a lot of insects seem to get caught in there, they fly around the top side of the roof bouncing into the tarp.. I believe the mantis sense/hear/see how many insects there are in that tent and have decided to set up shop in there. I believe it is staying a tad warmed in the greenhouse during the nights also and perhaps this is how they are surviving through the night.. and guess what... I decided to give the plants their first night of being kicked out of the greenhouse.. I will go give the plants a search and see if I can find them.. I was counting 3 so far all the tan/light yellow guys. I will also be feeding my plants with a compost tea I had began brewing yesterday.

How do you think an organic compost tea would effect a praying mantis?

& also, it will be hard to replicate, but with the strains we are going to be working with this year, I believe we should have another stunner :circle-of-love: Positive vibrations your way Les!

Looks awesome dude. You are so lucky you can grow outdoors. It snowed here a couple days ago lol.

Thanks T :Namaste: :high-five: Definitely am lucky with this sunshine, my savings for classes seems to be doing very well now that I am able to turn off the hid. Although I love the snow, I don't think I could live in the cold weather with my injuries, or maybe, just up the bud production X2.. maybe x3 and I could cope ;) Hope you are doing well T, need to give your thread a drive by that stack-a-scrog is going to do work!!

I have been slacking with the updates. I got a weeks worth of pics in my phone. Gonna post them all tonight.

It happens T no worries :Namaste: I do that at times and just skip all the pictures and start a new instead of catching up.. Lifes responsibilities come first brodda :high-five: Can't wait to see how the girls are going in their new containers (if they are transplanted already) :thumb:

I have also been meaning to PM you about your soil mix and how it works with seedlings T, PM incoming!

Tea currently brewing. This is a based off the revs "high power veg tea" from the tlo gardening book. Although I just used what was on hand I didn't get each ingredient, it should work juuuust fine. His recipe calls for a gallon of water to brew in but I don't need that much so I decided to use 4 cups and adjust the recipe accordingly. I have this placed on a griddle just for an even hard surface(unplugged), then the seedling heating pad plugged in, a porcelain dish to catch spills which also helps wick the heat.

4 cups RO water bubbled for 1 hour~ prior mix

first mix includes:
1/2 tsp high N dr earth guano
1/2 tsp soft rock phosphate dr earth
1 tsp natures solution 1-0-0 castings
1 tsp unsulph. molasses that has been mixed in water prior, don't just put a glop of molasses into the tea it sticks to the bottom of the container.
and a dash (probably 1/8th of a tsp) of azomite, dr earth alfalfa meal and crushed oyster shells.

In an hour or so I will go ahead and go dig up some nice soil from the stump in the backyard and use that as my compost which will be added shortly. This is meant to be a 24 hour tea, I started it at 4PM yesterday, and will use around sun down tonight 730pm, so a little over 24 hours which is no biggie, you can brew for up to 72 hours.

Oh ok, well then I'm guessing they migrated from a neighbors yard. The odds are that somebody not too far away from you went to OSH and got the egg case. Yeah, they'll just go to where there is food. They can also drink up the morning dew droplets to help survive. They only "pray" and wait for a bug to cross their path, but I also saw a video of a big praying mantis online that ate a rat, beware, praying mantis can become HUGE and gnarley but I haven't had that problem luckily

A fertilizer tea application at the root zone, surely would not effect the mantis life. It would be effected if some kind of pesticide was sprayed on the leaves.

Positive vibrations buddy, thinking good thoughts for these ladies :) It's comforting to know your up there gardening and I'm down here :) :passitleft: Great Weekend to ya CA! :thumb:

We have many avid gardeners around my area, would farmers set out praying mantis egg for their trees or vegetable fields this early in the season or would they be mainly relying on spraying down their crops with mixes? Very cool to think about these little guys making their way over to my yard  I am really anticipating picking up lady bugs this year, although, I believe I need to think a lot of this through if I am going to be applying microbe tea sprayings throughout the yards. Yo, if my mantis get that big I will buy him a leash, walk him down to the fair and have people pay to check it out LOL  Will be very cool to see the mantis grow along side the cannabis. Appreciate the kind words brotha, likewise :thanks: Should start getting real interesting here soon going to be introducing some new flavors shortly :Namaste:

Nice grow :thumb:
Hmm, I don't have mantises here, but a lot of lizards, which run around or sit in my basket full of mulch :) Happy growing and happy tea brewing!
