BT'z 2nd Grow: Super Lemon Haze & Golden Leaf

Day 20 - I've been watering my little seedlings in their 32oz Hempy Cups every day at least. Early on twice a day. It takes so little why not. Basically 100ml produces great runoff and a fresh supply of O'2 and Clonex Solution. I must say the results are astonishing. Here at under 3 weeks since seed drop it's far beyond the growth Rey had at 6weeks. Gilda of the Golden Girls is doing really awesome also, but still about a week behind. Goldie is going to make it for sure.
I have the T5 2bulb blue 6500K fixture within about 2-3 inches of green on the Lemon Sisters and they are loving it obviously. Nodes are extremely tight from my perspective with two primary sets working on the third node I think. There is growth coming off the stem from each leaf so those will be 1st and 2nd node branches. The SLH is obviously a very strong and healthy strain. Yea!!!

My plan is to let a 5th node form completely and top back to above the 3rd node. As soon as I have enough to work with I'll be starting some LST on the lower branches to keep them down. Plans are to clone the results of the toppings from each plant. The SLH and GL are Fem's so hoping on producing some more nice females to follow this set. Really hope to get a few solid clones from the Gorilla Grape also.

i used some clonex on my seedlings, it burnt the tap root right off.

great job man, lookin healthy

Thanks, I think they are coming along rather nicely in the moment. Interesting your experience with Clonex. I've been using it a full strength(10ml per liter) with no issues.

here is a pic. it has still grew out, but eat the tip.

where u see the pink, is where the shell was 2 days ago.

when the tip just started peakin out, i put full strength clonex on it, and put in the paper towel.

When you say full strength Clonex, do you mean Clone Solution without diluting with water? Quite honestly when I germinate with paper towel I use just plain pH balanced water at 6.5, no nutrients. As soon as I see a tap, I put it root down in a Root Riot that has been moistened with diluted Clone Solution at 5ml per liter.

Crazy good growth for a few weeks B.... Impressive tap roots, and I gotta say some amazing fill as well... I ask, Are you gonna wait on the topping so as to be able to Clone the top??? Good Stuff in here it is a pleasure to watch a new grow from the beginning... I will be watching , Cheers... Green Days and Memorial Day if it applies to ya.... and all

Good Morning MH, thanks for dropping in and your comments. It's great to see Hempy in action. I kept hearing that when the root hits the reservoir things get crazy, I feel we are getting a chance to see that first hand. Awesome!

The growth especially on the SLH really has been awesome. What an amazing strain if these two are any example. I still have 16 of the SLH seeds and am willing to make a few more trades. Another member and I already swapped a couple in a nice exchange. I received a couple of potentially really nice Cheesy Autos.

I am indeed planning on cloning the tops when I take them off. I'm open to ideas on exactly how, but I'll lay out my initial idea and see if it makes sense. I plan to let the 5th nodes begin to spread out and then come down and make my cut right above the 3rd node. Trim the 4th node close on the clone and soak in the Clonex Rooting Gel for a few minutes and slide into a Root Riot. I plan on clipping extra leaves back some and any heavy fans near the bottom of the sprout completely off. I don't want to be to cocky, but with my previous success doing three clones for early sexing, taking from the top should produce some very healthy clones. I will need to make a single early sexing clone from the Gorilla Grape clones, if it's a male harvest some of the pollen for the next GG grow. Will grow and flip almost immediately in my clone box.

I also plan to LST the 3rd node branches until they sprout a second node on each branch and begin the 3rd or 4th depending on spacing and take another 2 clones, one from each side. According to Manifold/Mainlining info this should produce 4 fairly equal cola branches to direct straight up for each plant.

I haven't made any firm plans in the moment on which direction to go with the clones. If all the 3 clones taken from each of the 5 plants survive I should end up with a total of 15? Maybe??? That would be a crazy number, for the growing space I have available. I with a 2x2x4 veg tent, certainly not any growing area enough to create more of the 4 colas plants in 1.5gal buckets.

As I see it I have three possible choices. Cull out the strongest and concentrate on them by making more of the larger 4 branch plants (4-5) or keep as many as possible and let them grow a single primary out of a 32oz Hempy cup and flip early in my short veg tent. Would most likely need to flip light schedule early around 3-4 weeks to work with the tent height of 4 feet.

The third option would be to take a few really healthy ones and make some more of the larger 4 or or even 8 branch plants and put them outside along a south facing wall that gets rather large sun most all day. Moving them outside would happen after July I think and it should initiate a flip to stretch after coming out of a 24hr light schedule. Doing that should relieve some of the cramped spacing inside the smaller tent. I'm thinking I might also be able to find some narrow green house idea for along that wall.

So yes, we should have lots of entertainment with all this action and goings on. Lots of experiments to conduct and log in the journal. Most interested in the yields from each direction. I'm currently in a bit of a with making a light choice. I've written a particular light source asking for a sponsorship for this grow to explore the two smaller lights are better than one of same size or bigger in a small space. If I don't get a response in the next couple of weeks I'm going to have to drop the hammer on one of a couple other ideas.

Thanks for stopping by, and asking about plans for cloning. It will be a great opportunity which I plan to take advantage of.

Good luck with the sponsors !!
In my life I have always ask. No harm, No foul! Worth a shot, and I'm actually only asking one that I already have a relationship with by buying two of his lights. He did actually, write me back and ask me what I had in mind for the sponsorship. I considered that a positive first step.

Day 24 - Both of the Lemon Sisters are really performing exceptionally well.
The Golden Girls are at least a week behind, Goldie perhaps a bit further than that. The Gorilla Grape at least two weeks and change behind. Water Mix consumption still is about 3 days of watering per liter, watering every day. SLH are drinking the most to say the least.

Quick question, where do I start counting nodes. With the first set of 3 bladed fan leaves, since there is growth coming out of that point? Maybe refer to the pictures from Day 20. Would you say working on the 3rd or 4th node?

Day 27 - Late PM - As promised a bit of an update on the progress of the other little ones in the garden. First up Gorilla Grape. The struggle is real but the effort is worth it.
Consider the lag time in getting started, it's not looking that bad. A little ragged around the edges, but I'm feeling confident it will produce in the future.
Golden Girls aka Gold Leaf Goldie is finally showing that she has some action, just a little air headed.
Gilda is looking really strong. Also with the really close node spacing, I'm going to attribute to the T5 being low enough to give them what they need for that.
All together for a bit of a group photo. I put the GL, and GG on a platform to raise them up to keep a really tight distance with the light.

I always pull for the ones that struggle..... (or the ugly duckling)

Things look like they're moving along under that T5, but I feel bad for that Gorilla Grape. So sad and deformed looking. I'm sure it's going to turn into a swan at some point though :).

Thanks folks, I have great hopes for this one. Like you it's always rewarding to see something nurtured to health and become viable. I intend to early clone for sexing on this one at some point and if it's a male, I will harvest some pollen and save for one of the other three seeds to hopefully become females.

I finally made a choice on a secondary light for vegging. I had been really considering the DYI boards that HLG offers, just couldn't quite figure out their order process. Turns out they actually have a Amazon On-line store. I ordered a HLG-100 that was supposed to cost $149, and somehow Amazon gifted me with a gift card discount at checkout that brought the price down to $39. Considering it will arrive on Friday, that became a real no brainier. It looks like the fixture will be equivalent to 4 T5's in intensity and will be able to have a great distance between light and plants. Great foot print.

On another note, I dis some LST work a bit ago and tied down 3 pairs of nodes on Sheila and 2 pairs on Stella. Also Ponytailed the tops and I'm considering just leaving them in overnight. The top isn't as important at this point as the node pairs I want to utilize down line. Planning on Topping down from the 6th nodes to above the 3rd nodes on Saturday and make clones anyway.

Now that's a discount!
Wow that's a great deal, I doubt you could ever get a better light for that price! :goodjob:
No doubt on both accounts. I was being a little apprehensive with the original pricing, not having any experience with DIY lights. But at this price it's almost like how could I go wrong. They have a very interesting page for comparing three of their lights with PAR readings and also Temp readings to qualify the need or not needing a heat sink. I put a lot of stock in PAR and they seem to be able to also backup their claims really nicely.

DrDoob, obviously I figured out my issues and questions earlier in the day before we were going to chat on the phone. I'll keep everyone up to date with my progress with this new purchase. I want to be very careful and not violate any forum sponsorship rules. So will keep my references on the DL.
